Re: [pinhole-discussion] oh Diana!
<< I wasn't following this auction as it played out, but this particular item had a reserve price set, and a lot of times an individual buyer will bid repeatedly to see if they can determine what or how high the reserve price is in advance of the auction closing. >> This is why I get slightly intimidated by ebay (the proxy bids/reserve, whats the fun of bidding - it makes it stressful (LOL)) BUT, perhaps, for obtaining other items it is easier. On the other hand DSL is fast and most people do not have that yet, I don't know if this contributes to winning though. I think this is an important discussion (even if way off topic) and we are all wanting to make / use interesting pinhole cameras and otherwise and we need the supplies to make them. Ebay is a great concept, but it is not the only discount resource for older camera equipment. I know many people look for old film holders like 4 x 5 and 8 x 10 on Ebay with good luck. There are also camera shows (Shutterbug magazine lists some) and there is also a place called KEH.com and other used camera places that we all can obtain items. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Sally Mann
For those of you interested in the fixer on the negative before development info here is a letter (I finally found it). I received from Nancy Renner: To make the photographs, I put my negatives in a water bath for one minute, pour out the water, then pour used but not exhausted fixer in the tank (about 1/3 the amount of liquid required). (The Greek pictures were all 4"x5" negatives developed in a tank, 12 at a time.) I leave the fixer in only about 10-15 seconds, sometimes shaking the tank, pour out the fixer, do a few water baths, then develop, stop and fix as normal. The results are very uneven, sometimes I totally lose a negative. It helps if your negs are greatly overexposed by 3 stops or so, because the fixer really eats up the silver. Also the strength of the fixer makes a big difference. You just have to play around with it.

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Fixer on the negative (Was Re: Sally Mann)
Hi Guy: Yes. I heard about this (fixing tequnique) through a photo teacher of mine. Best I can say is to experiment. You may want to try diluting it. I think at times one can put too much of the fixer on and then it looks like fixer is there (when you know) I have a letter, in my files here - I have to look for it from Nancy Renner who also used this technique on her negs. This is even featured in her photos in one of the magazines that she and Eric put outPinhole Journal called Millennia - images from Greece and Turkey. The Motherland series has been shot with old lenses that have problems such as scratches, diffractions, dust and are without coatings.. she uses litho film to shoot with. Hello Gordon: I am glad someone else knows of this book - perhaps it would help me to read some information on the alt-photo-process list Would you have the web address? I looked this up and there are references to an alt-photo-processes site, but not the actual site. Also when I was in the gallery where I discovered the book I saw the prints of the author Dan Burkholder, they were platinum & quite beautiful! Wendy Garfinkel
Re: [pinhole-discussion] A Query for all of you...
Hi - I happen to be online and got your note I will ask: What about platinum printing ? - This may be off topic but not too far: I walked into a photo gallery in a small town in Mexico this summer and saw a book about Making digital negatives for Contact Printing - by a man named Dan Burkholder - I am so busy I have not had a chance to read along and work within the book to make a negative or much less a contact print - I was mainly intrigued by this as one can make a print without a darkroom (we will see). The other type of printing I am curious about is Bromoil. People have made some interesting pieces using this technique. Wendy Garfinkel

Just to let people know if interested since ther is a chat abou tape: I have always used black paper tape most of the time. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Pinholga pictures uploaded...
Katherine, Yes I know what you mean about the numbers printing on the film, weather in holga or pinholga mode. It does not happen often but with a very sunny day it can. Regardless, I implore :-) you to retry the Holga again - you may have better results. The Holga camera, like our own pinhole cameras take time to get to know... I basically made my pinholga because 1. I was so anxious to start shooting. 2. I wanted to use 120 film and have the film advance (my homemade cameras were not advancing as well as this) and 3. have a short focal length. With the pinholga you get all three. Also it is easy to have a few holgas with different pinholes for varying degrees of sharpness. Then all one needs to to it glue a t-nut on the bottom for use on a tripod. Wendy Garfinkel

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Pinholga pictures uploaded...
Hi Guy: I like your photos! I too have been using a "pinholga" for a few years and I presume there are other members out there doing the same. The thing only thing that I don't force myself to do is to figure out how not to get each of the frames to "bleed into each other". There are times when I dont really want that to happen and times when it is interesting. I have gotten great double exposures when the film did not advance. The Holga comes with a black frame you position in the back that one can opt to use or not. But I dont think I would like the shape of the pictures as a result. Even having the numbers exactly in the center of the hole in the back still does not stop the bleeding. I do like the falloff effect though. The holga has some positive attributes to making a pinhole camera. The lubitel does also... Wendy Garfinkel

Re: [pinhole-discussion] WPPD Logo
Hello All: I still really like this logo, the pinhole is like the shape of the earth and the other oval is like the projection map we looked at. Both give the feeling of the earth... etc while communicating what we do, which is photography (pinhole) - we are showing a few changing pinhole photos within The color of the oval is pleasing - and the whole design does not look like clip art (thank god) which is what the other items impression (for me) is. I am critical about the other submissions as I have been a graphic designer for more than a decade —— looking at symbols as language (and design is a language), designing icons for businesses and so on. Again as mentioned before - Pam's logo is friendly and I hope everyone will consider this as it effectively gets our message across very well... I will fill my information out about this on the form that arrived this am - to vote for this idea thanks. Wendy Garfinkel

[pinhole-discussion] development charts
Hi All: I was wondering if anyone knew about development times for - Agfapan 25 or Ilford Pan F 50 using D-76 or HC-110 at 68 degress? I looked on Kodak's website and they have many PDF files with matrixes for using their films and papers but no dev. times for other films with their various developers. They sent me to a site called: digitaltruth.com - this has much info does anyone know any other more reliable and or accurate sites with this information? But the price is right per roll otherwise its Kodak Tech Pan --- a few dollars more but it still 25 ASA. I appreciate the info about European films. Thanks... Wendy

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Re: Orthochromatic Film for Pinhole Cameras
Development time is, about 1 minute or 1.5 minutes. I was told to keep the development time low and consistent. You may want to read a book by a woman named Bea Nettles called the Photo Cookbook. It has a section about pinhole and ortho film. If You develop your ortho film for too long you will get a higher contrast neg. It depends on what you want. I am currently using some of the ortho litho film from Freestyle - pre cut into 3.9x4.9 sheets. This is item number #519-44. I use this film for 4x5 work. You can also use Agfa neutol plus diluted 1 to 20 - it is supposed to yield similar results to the dektol. I like neutol as you only have to add water to the premade chemistry. Hope this helps. Re: [pinhole-discussion] ortho film
Great information about Ortho and Litho film thanks. not that this completely relates to the conversation strain BUT: here is some info on this type of film. I use something from www.freestylesalesco.com called ortho litho film - they make a sheet that is already cut to a 3.9x4.9 size for 4x5 film holder. You get 100 sheets in a box it has a speed of 6, like paper. I develop it in paper developer (Agfa neutol plus) for 1.5 to 2 minutes under a red safelight. I have used Agfa neutol plus at a 1 to 20 dilution. Or Dektol works well too. I have not tried the dektol yet. I dont remember if the dilution was 1 to 20 for that. Wendy Garfinkel
