8mm film is 16fps 1/16 sec. Super 8mm is 18fps 1/18sec. and that speed was
for magnetic sound.

I'm fairly sure that currently 35mm motion pictures are shot at 24
frames per second. And either 8mm or Super8 is shot at 18 frames per
second.

If I recall correctly film shot at 24fps is projected in such a way
that each frame is shown twice at effectively 48fps.

NTSC video is about 30 frames per second, and each frame is two fields
(60 fields per second). PAL video is 25 frames per second. I don't
know if PAL uses fields.

There have been other (faster) frame rates used by various systems,
but they tend to lose out to the double whamy of needing special
projectors and using more film.

Dear Dennis, Just forget the nitric acid. This is so strong it fumes
when you take the lid off the bottle and it is hard to get because it is
so dangerous. If you do find some,, dilute it by adding it to water (it
is heavy and will sink at first), not adding water to it, as the boil up
will be dangerous. Also, do it outside with plenty of ventilation, and
near water so you can wash the outside of the bottles off after putting
the lids back on and can wash up any spills. IT IS DANGEROUS. Jean

Hi Gordy,

Many thanks for the great news. I received an announcement via snail
mail about the Indial Doll exhibit and hope to get a chance to see it
soon. It is good to know that the new leadership at the museum is in
place. I'll send you an email off list to get a discussion going

Hi Mark and All,

My first thought on reading this post was Kurt Mottweiler's
Pinoramic 120. It looks like he is redesigning his website...
http://www.cnsp.com/mdesign/ ...there is not much info on his cameras
there right now. Pinoramics have turned up on eBay once or twice.

Related thought: Chris Faust is a wonderful photographer whose work is
nearly all panoramic. He has also done pinhole work, including
teaching a group which participated in WPPD this year. One of my
favorites, which was taken with a Pinoramic, is in the middle of this
mostly unrelated link:
http://www.electricedge.com/greymatter/archives/0713.htm Chris
also has an image in the Pinhole Journal, Vol 12 #3. It was made by
placing a zone plate on an old Cirkut camera. The image in Pinhole
Journal mentions that the image is 4.5" by 31". At a local pinhole
gathering, Chris showed us a print of this image that was 18 feet
long!

It might be best to enter the exhibit the normal way:
http://www.pinholeday.org/gallery/. Click on the the date (April 28,
2002). The exhibit opens in a separate window. In the gallery, you
can select the image number to go to, #633 in this case. You can
scroll forward from there to see the Sausalito pics.

A while ago somebody asked about pin"holes" exposed on film.
I have been thinking about this before, but never took the time to try it.
Now I had to do a print film and used the border of the page for some
tests.
I only exposed some polaroid pictures until now, so I am not sure if the
sharpness actually equals a real hole.
But as far as I can tell from the first tests, it seems to work quite
well.

The good thing about this technique is
a) it is very easy to make a perfectly clean hole of exact size
b) it is the only way to make holes of other shape, like stars (if you
don't
have a laser)

The way to do it:
Use a vector graphics program (like corel draw and many others).
Draw a black square of 25*25 cm.
Put a white shape in the center of the square, using a size of 1 mm. (I
used
one dot and two different stars from the "wingdings" font)
Combine the two objects and reduce the whole thing to 2.5*2.5 cm.
This way you can be sure that the "hole" will be 0.1cm .
(If you need other sizes, it should be not too difficult to calculate)
Then you can duplicate the object as often as the size of the page allows
it.
Save it as print file and send it to your service bureau.

Unfortunately, I don't have much time at the moment for playing around
with

them, but if somebody else would like to try it:
I have made enough "filmholes", so that the first 10 people who send me
their snail-address can get a set of them.

I would like to see the results!

Christoph

PS: some of my pinhole photographs can be seen on www.chwirsing.de (made
with a zero2000, not the "filmholes" yet)

I'm sorry for the translation about the formula

I assume the paraffin is neither the petrol used in those old fashion
lamps nor kerosene.

Sometimes the word paraffin is used for that kind of solid white wax
used as a lubricant and antioxidant but also as a laxative in
pharmacology (it's derived from petrol).

I think you could replace it advantageously by the same quantity of
vaseline, the constitution is almost the same as paraffin but it's
transparent and liquid.
(I don't know if you use the same denomination in the United States)

Camphrotated oil is often use as a component in embrocations or liniments.
Nevertheless, some badmouthing people relates that you can find it in
coffee in the army because it's the contrary of aphrodisiacs (But
it's probably a legend)...;-)

This could be. I have found so much is no longer made for use in a drug
store. I would try ordering first, but I think one will be out looking for
an old drug store. My dad bought this in 1 gal. and 5 gal. for his own
medications under the store name.
I was born into all this in 1936, and my dad was b. 1900 and lived to 1983
still working about 3 hrs. a week in a drug store. He worked a full 60 years
as a R.Ph.

I work in a drug store, and although we don't stock it, the pharmacist can
special order just about anything for you. He regularly orders stuff like
halfprin, denatured alcohol, etc for customers. I imagine camphorated oil
wouldn't be a problem, if it used to be a regular pharmacy item.

Was it the cm3 you wanted translated? That's cubic centimeters; like me,
you're probably more used to seeing it abbreviated as cc. But I think we
may need the paraffin translated as well. My understanding is that
Europeans mean something different by paraffin than the white solid wax
used for canning that we call paraffin in the US. And where does one
find camphorated oil? I assume a batting is like a cotton wad or ball.

Hi,

I know we had a discussion about the availabilty of 116 film recently.
However, I can't remember if this covered the question of 616 format vs
116 format.

I just discovered that I have a Kodak 616 folder with negative sizes 4
1/4 x 2 1/2 that is virtually new. Inside it says to use 616 format.
Can I put in 116 format or will I run into the same problems as 120 vs
620?

Thanks (and my apologies if this was already covered in the earlier
discussion).

As a teacher, I did learn form Polaroid that you can make an interesting
effect if you rub a fresh SX70 picture with a pencil eraser during the
developing time. Try it as I think you will like it.

Mike,

This is something different..
Meant is probably Extreme 600 for the Polaroid 690
There was also and still is the Sx-70 for the Sx-70
It is not the Peel-off type but self developing when it comes out of the
camera.

You can play with the final product..soak it in hot water etc

A new camera that you put the chemistry in and develop the pictures

you happen to be is coming out this fall. All you need is a black changing

Am very close to solving all the difficulties of making b&w prints without

Hey Everybody,

I'm kind of new to this list, so I was just wondering who everybody is
on

this list and what everybody does. I'm assuming that most of you are into
pinhole photography if I'm correct. Is anybody on this list in college,
like

studying photo or anything? How old is everybody and where does everybody
live? Just stuff like that I guess I want to know. If you can add anything
else that would be great. tah tah-jeremiah
