[pinhole-discussion] off topic! Ortho film + Dektol?
Sorry, off topic - not pinhole. Just saw and read about Cary Clifford pics at Photoeye's galleries. (http://www.photoeye.com/Gallery/forms/index.cfm?id=180247&image=1&imagePosi tion=1&Door=2&Portfolio=Portfolio1&Gallery=2 ). In her statemant: "I also use a process mostly borrowed from Sally Mann, in which I greatly overexpose Kodak ortho film and then process that film in Dektol for half a minute or less, thereby achieving the ghostly effects you see in some of my photographs." Anyone who has tried this? Kodak ortho film, which one can that be? Thanks, peter in springtime stockholm, sweden
[pinhole-discussion] off topic: photoshop tutorial book?
Sorry off topic, but since there are so many with great knowledge on the list I want to start doing darkroom work in the computer, and want a tutorial book with information on "photographic" ways of usiung Photoshop. What I mean is that I'm _not_ interested in Photoshop-filter-effects, nor collageing. I like the look that you get from normal darkroom work, but want to do my dodging, burning, cropping, contrast adjustments etc in the computer. I will mostly work in black-and-white to start with. There are plenty of Photoshop-books on the market, but most of them seem to be crappy. Is there any good book? Or perhaps a good magazine? James, I fully agree - you've definitely had success in creating these pictures! I find them mysterious and somewhat ... reduced, in a very appealing manner. SV: [pinhole-discussion] pinhole size
Haven't tried it myself, but I guess it would work: in your darkroom , you place a transparent ruler somehow in your enlarger and mark the mm-steps on a paper. Then placing the pinhole-plate in the enlarger, you see if its round and get an approximation of the size. Perhaps you might get an exact measuring doing some maths on the enlargers height etc - but thats' beyond my skills for sure. /peter > - Original Message - > From: "Jean Hanson" > To: > Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2002 5:53 PM > Subject: [pinhole-discussion] pinhole size > > > > I have the math on how to figure the ideal size of the pinholes but how > > do you actually measure them. SV: [pinhole-discussion] check my site!
Thanks. My main camera is an old fold-out bellows-camera (Agfa? Kodak?) for 120-rolls of film. So the negative I get is the regular 6x6 cm. I've removed all of the lens and fold-out bellows and placed a piece of cardboard with the pinhole very close to the film. The focal length is around 12 mm. I've made the hole myself, and all I can say is that it is really tiny (surprise!?)... I've bought old film, both negative and slide, which are both processed to negatives and then printed. So as you can see, the colors can become really surrealistic, for several reasons: old film, reciprocity (normally 5-15 sec exposures in sunlight) and sometimes cross-processing (slide -> neg). The camera is kind of neat, easy to bring along, and very durable - it's a lot of metal in those good old bodies. /peter -Ursprungligt meddelande- Från: Bob Russman [mailto:b...@russman.com] Skickat: den 18 februari 2002 16:30 Till: pinhole-discussion@p at ??? It's nice, sure. Lee Friedlanders pics are great, b/w in bright sunlight like the ones in his own book The Desert Seen. And Sally Mann's, of course, in light colors and very little sharpness...
