Re: [pinhole-discussion] 6x6 Zero Pinhole camera
Just for clarification (I am the confused one), of course by the 6x6 camera you mean the original one, Joe. That is the one in my review. For some reason I was stupidly thinking you were referring to the new camera (must be tired). Sorry. The one I will review sometime next week is the newest release from Zero Image, which is convertible, as others have pointed out, to give negatives of various sizes, but all using size 120 film. If you are looking at the original review, note that Zernike at Zero Image has fixed a couple of the problems I pointed out at that time (notably, the shutter is less prone to falling open and a washer was added under the film wind knob). Details soon, Colin --- joebe...@aol.com wrote: > Can anyone tell me something about the camera made > in Hong Kong, 6x6 Zero > Pinhole Camera. Re: [pinhole-discussion] 6x6 Zero Pinhole camera
As far as zone plate or pinhole, that's a preference call for you. I only have the pinhole. But I did want to comment further that the Zero pinholes are very accurate and produce very sharp images. You'll get a sharp image each time (discounting hand-held or other factors). While I really like the Zero camera (mostly for travel), I prefer making my own cameras out of various materials, cans or boxes - and my own pinholes. This allows me to control how sharp or fuzzy I want an image. If you want to learn about photography in general and specifically pinhole photography, nothing will teach you faster than making a camera out of a box or can, making a pinhole, and then exposing, processing, and contact printing photographic paper. But, if you want to own a well crafted pinhole camera and not interested in the learning part, you can't beat the Zero cameras. And, of course, you can do both at the same time. Also, do you prefer the zone plate over the pinhole or vice-versa? Seems to me the zone plate is rather soft focus and would be better suited for pictorials. If you are going to buy one: take the cable release shutter, too. It makes the handling much more easier. I got one on my 6x9 and I'm going to add one to my Zero2000. Not only will you get a larger negative size, but you can also vary the format to 6X7, 6X6 and 6X4.5. The construction is very nicely done. It's a little on the pricey side, but I was a good boy last year, so I bought myself one. Cheers - george = Handmade Photographic Images http://members.home.net/hmpi/ __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [pinhole-discussion] 6x6 Zero Pinhole camera
Hi Joe, I've had the Zero 6x6 for over a year and have enjoyed it completely. It is well constructed and will serve you well. One of its strengths is that it uses medium format, 120mm film. This gives you the ability to make fairly large enlargements without having to go to 4x5 inch sheet film. If you don't develop your own film or prints, then 120 film is a good way to go - its usually easier to find a lab that processes/prints 120 film than 4x5. If you have the money, you might want to consider the 6x9 format camera. This gives you more options.
