Re: [pinhole-discussion] SX-70 pinhole instructions
You don't really have to by-pass the autoexposure - I just removed the lens and shutter blades (on a time-zero camera) and replaced them with a pinhole and a homemade shutter to control exposure. After making the exposure - you press the shutter button and the camera goes thru its normal exposure cycle and ejects the film. You do have to be a bit careful though since the since the mechanism and electronics that control the shutter and film ejection are all interelated (of course). Its been a while since I've messed with mine From: Thomas Harvey t...@geog.pdx.edu ...snipped... Have those of you who have adapted existing cameras been able to by-pass the autoexposure mode and get manual exposure and still get the film to eject? yes but you can't get an SX70/600 back...that I'm aware of. I believe someone made an SX70 back for the RB67 (2 1/4 graphlock type) but they are pretty rare. But it certainly may exist. I also cannot find the SX-70 base for the Daylab slide printer. I saw a demonstration of one a couple of years ago. It looked like just the thing to build a pinhole camera around. After exposing the film, you just pushed a button to eject the picture. The problem was cost - $200-300 range as I recall. Re: [pinhole-discussion] SX-70 pinhole instructions
I just pulled my copy of The Polaroid Newsletter for Photographic Education Summer 1986. The article in question shows how to make a pin hole camera from a 50 sheet 4x5 box and a way to hold the SX 70 pack in place. They then instruct you how to place this back into the camera to process it. I scan this tonight and then can send it to who ever wants it. -- Chris Peregoy | http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~peregoy | http://imda.umbc.edu/
RE: [pinhole-discussion] SX 70 Pinhole
Actually what I've found is it is easier to convert either a Polaroid OneShot (for SX70 Film) or one of the 600 cameras that DON'T have a build it or flip up flash than a real SX70. The 600 film is nice because it's more easily obtained and for a non metered pinhole camera one only needs to clip off the little wings from the bottom of the rear of the film pack to make it fit an SX70 style case. The film is still ASA600 while the SX70 is 100. The rear housing on the OneShot can be slipped off on after you gut the mirror assembly making a pinhole that's 45 degrees off the film plane or you can build a box out of foam core, etc to get a normal pinhole camera. The only thing that is a bit tricky is to keep the shutter/ejector running so you don't need to remove the pack to process the picture. This is why it's easier to use a flashless model...cheap on EBay too... With a little care you can mask off the back of the shutter assembly so after the exposure just press the little red button for your picture...kind of fun... have fun andy schmitt -Original Message- From: pinhole-discussion-admin@p at ??? I don't have a copy but, you could always bid on the item :). Check out The hackers guide to the SX-70 http://www.chemie.unibas.ch/~holder/SX70.html This fellow has lots of info on SX-70 cameras. I have made a pinhole camera for exposing SX-70 film. I used an old Time-Zero camera (The white and black one with the Polaroid rainbow stripe down the front that James Garner used to advertise). I think these are much easier to modify than a SX-70 (cheaper and easier to find too).
