Hey, I've tried doing this with disposables, and it's
kindof a pain -- thin plastic, tiny/breakable parts,
and often wierd film handling (sometimes APS,sometimes
unexposed film in an roll *outside* the film canister,
and rolled *into* the film canister as you go).

I've found it easier to hunt down cheap 35mm give-away
type cameras at thrifts stores -- I can usually find
enough for $1-$2 if I visit several stores -- and
modify them. They usually open up pretty easily with
a small screwdriver, and then I carefully remove the
lens shutter mechanism (sometimes screwed in place,
sometimes snapped in place) and replace it with a
pinhole, leaving the film advance mechanism in place
(so you press the old shutter button to release the
film to advance to the next frame).

On some of the cameras, I can modify the sliding lens
cover so it acts as a shutter -- this usually involves
cutting off a little plastic tab that prevents you
from pushing the film advance button (the old
shutter button) with the lens cover closed.

Make sense? If you haven't tried this, grab a couple
and try them -- I think you your students will be
happier with the results...
