Here's a reply. Just want to know if I made it through the eye of the
needle.

Subject: [pinhole-discussion] Re: [pinhole] Discussion list upgrade
Hi again,
Well, the transfer of subscriptions was a hundred times easier than I
thought it would be (assuming it worked). And, I was wrong about you're
needing to confirm your subscription. Everyone who was on the old list is
now on the new list. You each have your own password which you can (and
probably should) change right away. Anyone subscribing on their own WILL
have to confirm, but you are home free.
But, just to be sure this is all working ok, would someone please post a
reply just to be sure it IS working.
Thanks,
Gregg

Hi all,
I will be upgrading the pinhole discussion list in the next few days.
I
have been looking at various options for several months to make some
improvements to the list, and I feel confident that the changes will
benefit us all.
The list will continue to be free of advertisements and free to all
subscribers. In addition, the new list will have a web interface to
allow
everyone an individual page to change your list preferences. The
interface is call Mailman and it seems really slick. It will allow
everyone to control features such as regular or digest versions, no mail
while on vacation, changing your password (did I mention the
password? ouch!) Yes, you will get a personal password with the new
list. The password will allow you to change your settings and also to
access the archive. And, in case you forget your password, it is mailed
to you as a reminder once a month (you can also request it at any time).
The archive is another big change. It will require a password to prevent
email spammers from harvesting our email addresses. In short, the list
is
being set up to pretty much block spammers from accessing any list
files. Unfortunately, we may end up with 2 archives, as the new
listserver has it's own. I'll work on moving the old one into the new
one
in time.
So, sometime in the next few days you will receive an email that you have
been subscribed to the new list, named
Pinhole-Discussion@p at ???. This email will have instructions for
confirming your new subscription. You will need to reply to the email to
complete the new subscription.
I'll post a message to this list once I've subscribed everyone to the new
list. Once you have signed up, please start using the new list. I will
continue this list for a few weeks, but it will eventually go away.
I believe this will be a big improvement for us all. But please let me
know any concerns.
Gregg
