Re: [pinhole-discussion] changing bags

2001-12-01 Thread Ricardo Wildberger Lisboa
There goes my cent to the thread.

I use changing bags. I use a lot of film holders too. As much as I can I
avoid changing films in sweating conditions. As much as I can I try to
change films indoors (be it in a house, a car or a tent), specially at the
night before, so that it wont be necessary to change films during the day.
Afterwards, keeping well the changing bag is a good idea. In regards to the
exceptions, well, they are exceptions. In the other hand, fortunately, on
the humid enviroment I use to work, there's not many problems with statics.
In dry places, discharging statics from bag, film holders and body before
puting them together to work should help.

I used to use a changing bag to load exposed roll film (both 35mm and
120) onto development tank reels. It's not nearly as hard as it seems.
You actually need less space in the changing bag for roll film than
you would for 4x5 (where you need space for the film box AND
the film holder AND space to withdraw the dark slide...).

I've used a changing bag for years. Haven't noticed any problems -though
I contact print mostly. I used to take my 4x5 on camping trips. Load
and reload film in the bag on a picnic table etc.

I didn't want to limit the shots I took on a trip to the number of
darkslides I have.

Can't imagine doing handling roll film in a bag. I've reloaded an 8X10
pinhole camera in a changing bag - thats difficult

Interesting. Just for the record, I have never owned a

I use a changing bag, but what I do is , wad the changing bag up and put it
into a baggie , the half gallon size with a zip lock. I take it out of the
baggie when I need to change film holders in the changing bag , or unload a
camera , etc, then it goes right back into the baggie after , and I have not
had a problem (cross my fingers, eyes , etc) It might seem a bit much, but all
I know it works for me,

My experience is the same as Tom's... DUST, despite shaking and cleaning
and vacuuming. Using a changing bag on a project turned out to be the
dumbest thing I did this year. Although I suppose I will need to use
it again sometime in the field, I try to load my backs in a closet or
darkroom in advance now, and I'd rather carry a couple more backs than
subject my projects to that level of dust again.

No, it's the result of the awful stinky plastic odor trapped inside a
well-sealed changing bag.

I'm happy enough with my changing bag, but I only use it for location work.
It's roomy enough to load 5x7 holders with two 100-sheet film boxes inside,
and it's not staticky, but my hands stink everytime I use it.

Beware of dust that gets into the bag and onto sheet film and never
seems to leave the bag despite using a vacuum cleaner on its insides.
I have a changing bag and do whatever I can to NOT use it for loading
sheet film.

Have you tried spraying the outside of the bag with some of the spray they

I own one, use it but hate it. Mine, generates static electricity, hence
the fabric tends to stick to whatever you have inside, my hands inclusive.
I load 35mm film into reels and 4x5 into holders without much problem, but
working with 120 is difficult IMO. I got mine free when I bought a press
camera at eBay, but if I had to buy one I'd probably get a tent instead of a
bag.
