[Pkg-javascript-devel] Comments regarding drupal7-mod-jscommunicator_1.0.0-1_amd64.changes

2014-01-14 Thread Thorsten Alteholz
Hi Daniel,

your debian/copyright says that this package is GPLv2, but
according to COPYING it should be GPLv2+.
Maybe you can correct this in one of the next uploads.

Thanks!
 Thorsten

PS same in drupal7-mod-jssip

[Pkg-javascript-devel] node-iscroll_5.1.1-1_amd64.changes REJECTED

2014-04-10 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Dear Balint,

unfortunately I have to reject your package.

The file node-iscroll-5.1.1/demos/minimap/ermine.jpg does contain a
copyright statement [1] but no license. So it seems that this file might
not be distributed, at least an entry in debian/copyright is missing.

Further lots of images are created by Gimp. Are you sure that there are
no xcf-files as preferred form of modification?

Re: [Pkg-javascript-devel] Small Node.js packages in NEW

2015-04-04 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Hi Bas,

Debian is running on lots of different types of computers ranging from
high end number crunchers to low end Raspberry PIs or embedded devices.
While installing/updating a package all of them have to download the
complete package information and parse it over and over again. This is not
a problem for high end computers with good network connectivity, but low
end computers might have a problem.
As we have seen in the past there are memory constraints or the whole
process just consumes too much time. I admit that there is lots of room
for improvement in Debians package handling, but at the moment we just
have what we have.

Looking at the popcon statistic of nodejs, the numbers are growing but
compared with the numbers of dpkg, they are still rather low.
So I would say the overhead of those nodejs users that need to install
a few kB of superfluous code is not as bad as the resource consumption of
all other users.

I don't have a better solution for small packages, but as long as there is
no improvement in package handling, I think there should be no exception.
I would still prefer the bundling of several small packages into bigger
chunks. Isn't git able to handle several upstreams in one repository?

Re: [Pkg-javascript-devel] Small Node.js packages in NEW

2015-06-26 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Hi Bas,

I'm reluctantly looking into this issue further, but I need to know what
requirements an Node.js module must meet to be eligible for its own
source package.

What are your requirements for this?

from my point of view only the size of the binary package (excluding
/usr/share/doc and other meta information) is important. So the 120 bytes
of node-isarry is far too little. Up to this point I draw the line at
about 5kB.

Package: npm2deb
Version: 0.2.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi Leo,

the package created by npm2deb contains a line
 XS-Testsuite: autopkgtest
in debian/control.
lintian complains about that with:
 I: node-xoauth2 source: xs-testsuite-header-in-debian-control xs-testsuite
So maybe this line could be removed.

Can you please also change the debhelper version to 9?

[Pkg-javascript-devel] packages without corresponding github tag

2015-09-05 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Hi,

as you might have noticed I uploaded some packages, that are dependencies
mentioned on the tasks pages.

Now I found some packages that have a version in package.json, which does
not have a corresponding tag on github. What is the best way to handle
such packages?
Ask upstream to create the needed tag? How do we notice new versions
when upstream forgets new tags afterwards?
Create a get-orig-source-target in debian/rules to download the current
revision of the repository? How do we detect new versions in this case?

[Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#826882: create package from git

2016-06-09 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Package: npm2deb
Version: 0.2.5-1
Severity: whishlist
Tags: patch
thanks

Hi Leo,

as you know, not every developer of npm modules does release a tarball for
new versions. Some of them commit something to github and just put the new

version in their package.json.

With this patch npm2deb is able to work with such repositoies.
If you do something like (the -b is new):
 ./npm2deb.py create -b hashish
it will create a different debian/watch file (just saying that you can not
use uscan to get a new version), it will add a new target get-orig-source
to debian/rules and it will create a debian/get-orig-source script that
pulls the latest commit from the repository, creates a orig.tar and puts
something like X.Y.Z~git as version in debian/changelog.

What do you think of it?

Thanks!

[Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#826882: Bug#826882: create package from git

2016-06-10 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

On Fri, 10 Jun 2016, Mike Gabriel wrote:

With this patch npm2deb is able to work with such repositoies.
If you do something like (the -b is new):
./npm2deb.py create -b hashish
it will create a different debian/watch file (just saying that you can not
use uscan to get a new version), it will add a new target

Is that a good idea?

Yes, it is. Of course npm2deb already creates a watch file similar to your
suggestion. But it can only do this if the author of the npm-module does
some kind of release management. My patch, which introduces the -b option
(--build-from-git), is only for those modules where there is no release
management. In this case there are no tags and DDPO won't get anything to
track, so a watch file makes no sense

This we may need to improve. E.g.:

o pull latest tag, not HEAD from a Github repo

Depending on the contents of package.json, npm2deb already does this in
"normal" operation mode, doesn't it?

o pull HEAD from a non-default branch

I don't think this is a common use case. If you want to have such a
behaviour, you might edit the get-orig-source-script ...
