[PLUG] Thursday's meeting
Hello all, I have been busy with the FreeBSD DevSummit in Sunnyvale and have not heard back from some potential speakers. 1. Does anyone have a topic they want to present, even if an open discussion? 2. Any requests that I or some familiar faces could cover? Thanks! [PLUG] s.p.a.m with no to field
Lately I've been getting s.p.a.m that comes with a from, but no to field. It only matters because this account gets e-mail forwarded to it from my old Comcast account. Some of the s.p.a.m I get from the old account comes with the old address in the to field. As far as I know, I don't get much, if any, s.p.a.m addressed to this account. I use Thunderbird, and I tried looking at it with all headers, as opposed to normal, but there's still to field. Is that condition -- no to field -- useful for some legitimate purpose? -- Regards, Dick Steffens ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug

I haven't run across a VGA-only projector in a very long time. If you're working with clients dependent on older or second-hand gear (e.g., some nonprofit groups, local schools), VGA may be the best they'll have. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect to see it anywhere. The only place I still see VGA used extensively is in the data center. Most rack-mount machines provide only VGA, and server-room crash carts tend to have monitors with VGA cables. -- Paul Heinlein heinl...@madboa.com 45°38' N, 122°6' W___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
Re: [PLUG] VGA still useful?
I'm glad that you asked. some new laptops come with full size HDMI and some with micro HDMI. I like mine because it has a full size HDMI. If you are giving talks, most places will have an HDMI cable that you can use to plug into their projectors. But if you get a micro HDMI, you'll need to carry around your own cable and hope that you don't forget it or lose it. I'm wondering how USB type C will change this situation. I find that mac lightning or mini display port are buggy for use with projectors and you'll be sorry if you go that route in my opinion. just in case you use windows windows will not transmit audio over HDMI, only video. Regarding LCD projectors, the advantages of VGA include being supported by most projectors and the lower resolution makes reading easier for the audience, especially in a large or brightly-lit room.
