Not quite yet. The February 3 edition of the Wall Street Journal had an article stating that AT&T (the only vendor) would take orders starting February 13 and that the ship date would be March 6. However, that was the WSJ, and there has been no word from Motorola confirming or denying. Rumors have been flying ever since CES, and at one time both Amazon and Costco had ads listing the phone for $150, but the pages were quickly removed, although Amazon does currently list four pages of accessories. There are also reports on the net that AT&T employees are currently receiving training on it. I plan to get one as soon as I can, but just the phone, not the dock, although I'll also get a 32 GB microSD card. (Note to self: Figure out if the microSD card will fit in my Thinkpad T61.) The phone is $200 (with new plan or upgrade contract), and the dock is $500, although you can get them both in a bundle for $500. You can get a real netbook with more power for ~$350, which is why I said that it's a bit overpriced if you want it as a netbook. The only justification for the price is the convenience of using it as either a phone or a netbook. Or the fact that you'll be the coolest kid on the block. ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug

It has Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition (Lucid Lynx) 32 Bit Linux installed on it. I already have a laptop from System76. I got it last September and I have been upgrading it every 6 months when new release of Ubuntu comes out. I have it upgraded to 10.10 right now. Boy that just rolls off the tongue and makes you want to tell all your geek buds about the cool distro you run, eh. I've been ecstatically happy w. Sidux for the past few yrs... I know most of the PLUGers & Free Geekers are big fans of Ubuntu. But I'm not, I've found it to run very slowly on my fairly well resourced Thinkpad T-60. Maybe Ubuntu Netbook is faster/better than Ubuntu "standard". I'll at least give it a spin. I'm also curious about Jolicloud, which is Ubuntu based, and Chrome OS. But not totally sold on the whole web-based/cloud OS thing. There's some interesting distros I found here to try as well: http://www.linux-netbook.com/linux/distributions I try on Linux Distros, like most women try on shoes... *sigh* ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug

Important News: sidux is dead, long live aptosid http://sidux.com/index.php?module=News&func=display&sid=616 As I am sure you are all aware, there have been interesting times for sidux recently. The bad news is that the sidux project is dead. The good news is that aptosid has been aptly born like a phoenix from the ashes and will provide a smooth upgrade for sidux systems. I am using a Toshiba N305 and am quite happy with it. Commonly get between 7-9 hours of battery life, easy memory and hard drive upgrades. It has a 10" screen and a nice, almost full ( for a laptop) sized keyboard. It had a couple of glitches with the backlight not being adjustable and it hesitating due to a lack of interrupts. Both of these problems have been addressed with recent updates from Ubuntu. Never tried Sidux so I cannot speak about if these issues exist with it. If you are interested, let me know and I can try running a copy of Sidux on it, and see if everything works right. If I was in the market for a netbook I'd look at the Motorola Atrix 4G. You can get a laptop dock for it that basically turns it into a netbook. When it's not a netbook its an Android 2.2 phone. Of course, if you don't need a phone, then it becomes too expensive for a netbook. At $500 for the phone + dock bundle it's even expensive for a phone + netbook. But you'd have a netbook that can always connect and doesn't need a friendly coffee shop. ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
