Re: [PLUG] Local network routing mystery [SOLVED]
RE: MikroTIK, I upgraded to the latest stable 6.43. That seems to have the bot issue corrected. Ubiquiti is what I use. Right now some of us are looking at a 5Ghz link using a couple of Ubiquiti devices to link and amateur radio DMR repeater to the net. Right now we are using a cellular hot spot, but all of these devices have proven to be pretty unreliable when left to their own. I am getting ready to order some Ubiquiti AP's as I left my old ones in the house in WA. What I like about the Ubiquiti AP's is the price and the network tools. I set up a several of them in Longview, WA they did quite well roaming about the building using VoIP. Re: [PLUG] Play a video from the command line?
Thanks for all the replies. I'll give them a try when I get some time. As I think through the process, I'd: SSH -X into computer B from computer A. Start Mplayer with -display :x (whichever one works) At that point, the video is displayed on computer B, and input comes from computer A. I see from: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/MPlayer.html#commandline that there are a number of keyboard controls I can use, and I could set up a remote with LIRC, which I still have from back when I was using MythTV. If those assumptions are correct, then this should be a workable solution. Actually, Mplayer by itself may be a workable solution without using the laptop. Part of the issue is being able to see all of the screen. This TV doesn't handle under-scan, so the edges are not displayed. But with keyboard control, that may not matter. Anyway, when I get the time I'll try them both and report my results. Thanks again for the replies. -- Regards, Dick Steffens ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
Re: [PLUG] Play a video from the command line?
While this is not exactly what you are asking - consider installing and using Kodi with wireless mouse/keyboard for playing media. With Kodi - if you can see the screen and have wireless mouse, then you can control the player. Otherwise, wireless mouse/keyboard works well with mplayer from a distance too. :-) Hope this helps, Tomas On Thu, Dec 13, 2018, 7:24 AM Dick Steffens Thanks for all the replies. Re: [PLUG] Local network routing mystery [SOLVED]
FYI, I've had an ERX running OpenWrt for a year. There's one in my basement and another one on my desk, so I am pretty sure about it being supported. I will say, that there was a bug involving ubifs that affected the ERX (and every other device with NAND flash that is running the 4.14.x kernels) until mid-November. It is caused by ungraceful shutdown (i.e. power loss) after the first boot and the subsequent recovery. The work around is pretty easy (just login and run "sync" or reboot from software). It will be fixed in the next release and is in current snapshots. + 1 working openWRT ERX on my desk too. The router works fine with the original firmware and it is getting timely updates from Ubiquti too. It is fantastic value and great HW design, from what I can tell. -T On Thu, Dec 13, 2018, 5:25 PM Russell Senior FYI, I've had an ERX running OpenWrt for a year.
