Major cross streets are McQueen/Guadalupe, in NW Gilbert.

There is a Dutch Brothers right there to. I'm free any time after 6pm, M-F
and anytime on the weekends.

Let me know what works for you.

Thanks,
Alexander

Yep, I'm interested. I'm guessing it's a standard 9V or 12V barrel power
supply. Probably have those lying around. Also I'm interested in your
modems too, Mr. Schwartz. Can you tell me a price for them?

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

2019-08-08 Thread Snyder, Alexander J
I have one, but I stopped using it because the internet would drop, like it
was rebooting, but it wasn't.

I've gone through several since then, some better, but now I'm plagued by
the same issue on different hardware.

Anyway, it's free, you'll probably need a power supply for it, as I don't
think I have it.

Cisco Docsis 3.0, cable modem.

Can get model specifics tonight, if you're interested.

Thanks,
Alexander

I think that he should be fine. As demonstrated here. But your caution is

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

2019-08-08 Thread Thomas Scott
Well the problem with the DPQ3212 isn't that it's not compatible with Cox,
it's that it was Cox's choice for their EMTA since they upgraded to DOCSIS
3.0 over a decade ago. Part of their phone service included that modem
which could also be used as a gateway for internet services gratis.
However, the modems often times weren't returned after phone service was
disconnected and customer mistakenly thought it was "their" modem. So if
modem is never returned to Cox, they get flagged, or if they get returned
in the wrong manner, they get flagged, if it falls into a MAC address range
that was marked as decommissioned, they get flagged. Once it's flagged it
takes an act from an inventory specialist to re-register it to an account
and it's on high on Cox's priority as so many of these are modems that are
as far as Cox is concerned, stolen property.

If you have a DPQ3212, I would get the serial number and mac and call in
or head to one of the retail stores and make sure it registers on your
account.

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

2019-08-08 Thread David Schwartz
I did mention the serial#s are clean, but I meant the MAC addresses. They were
both used on Cox previously.

The Cox reps I’ve talked with basically said they’re like cell phones — if you
don’t pay your bill, you’ll get cut off and your modem’s MAC address will get
blacklisted in their network. People sell those modems not realized they can’t
be used.

I suspect, however, that if you got a modem that was used on another carrier,
they wouldn’t know there’s a problem.

But both of these are clean and clear to use on Cox.

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

2019-08-08 Thread Dhruva Lokegaonkar
I need one for my apartment, and one for my friend's apartment. Why
would Cox blacklist non-cox modems? They seem to support it as far as I
can tell from the website. I'm not too worried about speed, since I
probably won't go over the 150Mbps plan for a while. In fact I'll
probably start on the 10Mbps plan. I do plan on hosting my website,
though it barely gets any traffic, so that should be alright.

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

2019-08-08 Thread Thomas Scott
Can I ask why you're buying two? Do you have two separate circuits through
Cox?

Be careful with the DPQ3212 - those get blacklisted easily. Even if buying
from a 3rd party that uses a mac address/serial # range outside of Cox's
internal supply, sometimes the provisioning system will flag them just by
the model number - which unlike other MAC/Serial combos *are always* recognized
as DPQ3212s and can't be spoofed. So if possible I'd shy away from them.
There are plenty of places that offer refurbed 3.0 8x4 or even 16x4 modems
for cheap if no one has one in PLUG. Depending on speeds you can use any of
the SB618[0-3] model range pretty reliably, but there's plenty of opinion
out there.

Re: Looking for a Cable Modem

I’ve got a couple that work fine on the Cox 100 meg plan.

I upgraded recently to their 300 meg plan. These modems work, but they only go
up to ~150. I had to upgrade to a faster one to get the full 300 megs.

These are common Cisco DPQ3212 modems, no WiFi. (I have a separate router I
use.)

The serial#’s are clean, so you shouldn’t have any trouble with them.

And I don’t know what’s “commerical” about this. People frequently ask about
