Re: Cottonwood Question?

2009-07-28 Thread Michael Butash
David,

No, sorry to say, but you can't upgrade via firmware. New docsis 3.0
uses something of a MIMO-kind of muxing of multiple upstream/downstream
channels, much the way 802.11n does, or some of the bastard hack
variants of 802.11g do for "speed boost" resulting in increased
bandwidth. This requires more granular/precise clocking, faster
processing, whole new chipsets, and a gigabit ethernet port (150mb/s
theoretical max downstream) to achieve this. The only modem I know of
on the market currently is the Motorola Surfboard 6120, which frys sells
for around 90 bucks.

If I'm not mistaken, I think 2.0 is good to around 12-15mb/s tiers
because it does some channel-bonding itself, just not to the level to
get the 25mb/s down cox is starting to roll out, or the 50mb/s
charter/comcast are on the east cost.

Re: Cottonwood Question?

2009-07-28 Thread mike Enriquez
Mike,
I am on a mountain and I cannot get Cox. For the internet I get a
wireless signal coming from Mingus Mountain some 20 miles away.
Cox may not be available since I see dishes outside on most houses.
It cost me about $50 for basic internet. I use rabbit ears
for t.v. and a well for water.

Re: Cottonwood Question?

2009-07-28 Thread David Munson
Anyone know if existing 2.0 compliant cable modems can be updated to support
3.0 (presumably via firmware), or will I have to get a new cable modem once
3.0 is rolled out in my area?

I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem and it's served me well for the past 5
years, but I haven't seen anything from Linksys (geared for home use,
anyway) that's DOCSIS 3.0 compliant.

Most any will work, just avoid the really cheap/off-brand ones

Re: Is SOAP configured on PHP?

2009-07-28 Thread keith smith

PHP.ini has extension_dir = "/usr/lib/php/modules"

I listed the file in /usr/lib/php/modules and nothing was named with soap.

I guess I need to install it. Thanks!

I've had reasonable luck with SpinRite to get data off of semi-failed hard

I too have a hard disk with a bad card on it. I cannot seem to find a
replacement card to get the data
off the drive, and the company that made the drive has explicitly told
me that I must submit it
to one of their authorized recovery partners in order to get the data
off ($2,192 and change before taxes).

I definitely don't have that kind of funds to waive around.

any viable solution (such as an identical unused HD with the same
electronics package) would
be more than helpful.

Yes it can however you need to be really careful with partitioning and
use bootcamp and ref-it to make it go around nicely

this also kind of means your cramming your whole install into a single
parition rather than being able to make a swap/boot/root gracefully.

aside from that it runs great

For your own sake, make that backup now. In my experience, by the time
you realize the drive is failing completely it will be too late to do
anything without, as you said, unnecessary expenses.

This issue sounds more like a problem with your mobo/cables, as it only
happens on that computer.

Is this an external USB drive?

Re: Is SOAP configured on PHP?

2009-07-28 Thread Lisa Kachold
Decide if you want a "stable" distro php version or a custom binary.

You can just do an apt-get or yum.

I would assume that if:

1) You have not defined soap in php.ini module section (version dependent).
2) Your phpinfo() does not show soap.
3) php -i does not show soap.

You don't have soap.

Also, check out nusoap?

Re: Is SOAP configured on PHP?

2009-07-28 Thread Judd Pickell
If the php.ini is the one defining the modules (as is the case in the ubuntu
repos) then it may not show up in the configure command, but under the
modules list. I believe only statically compiled modules are listed in the
configure command section.

Not sure about your installation (php.ini) and Apache; look at:

php -i | grep soap

You should see it in the configure command section.

Question : If I look in the "Configure Command" section of the phpinfo() output
should I see "--enable-soap" if SOAP has been installed?

PHP SOAP uses the XML libraries. There are various specifications in
versions of implementations of SOAP depending on your platform and
version.

php soap is a compile time option (if you build your own custom php
[recommended]):

--enable-soap

or you can yum or apt-get it:

sudo yum install php-soap
sudo apt-get install php5-soap

You can also use NuSoap:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nusoap/

Is SOAP configured on PHP?

2009-07-28 Thread keith smith

Hi All,

I'm trying to determine if SOAP is configured on my server. When I do a
phpinfo() soap is not listed anywhere. According to the PHP manual "This
extension is only available if PHP was configured with --enable-soap.". So I
was expecting to see SOAP under the "Configure Command" section of the output
of phpinfo().

Any help is much appreciated.

Sorry LK, originally I did not read [all of] that post from you, from
Mon, Jul 13, 2009 at 3:17 AM
(12 steps, FOSS, etc.);

but now today I did (re-) read it. Very interesting.

Now, this one (Jul 27, 2009 at 5:02 PM) I have only skimmed through; but I
did go back, and re-read
the "part of it", that was from
Mon, Jul 13, 2009 at 3:17 AM

...and I still am not sure that I "get" it all, 100%, but
it is interesting.
