No, I was following along with your original post, and had forgotten
what is really needed.

It has been mentioned on various threads that you have to Show Package
Contents TWICE, not just once.

that is, mplayer_intel is NOT what you want. You need to Show Package
Contents on this and you will find a file whose name is just mplayer,
and THAT is what you need.

Confusing, isn't it! Especially when those who know forget the correct
procedure and give wrong advice.

Ah yes, I knew I'd seen options somewhere. Forgot about per-menu options!

It appears I've forgotton to clear this option on a few of my menus. Does it

2007-12-23 Thread Mitch G

First the good news: I've got an SC7 version ready. It wasn't that hard
after all. But, I'm not releasing it yet - see next item.

Now the bad(ish) news: I just discovered that the Heavens-Above data is
not being displayed correctly. This is true for the pre-SC7 version as
well. The problem is that they changed the formatting of the webpage
and so the plugin doesn't find the right data. This has happened before
and I just adapted the parser to deal withe new format. But, I thought I
would email the Heavens-Above people and see if there was a way I could
access the raw data and thus not have to worry about page format
changes. I haven't heard back yet (just having sent the email), but I'm
not going to release V2.0 (the SC7 version) or update V1.5 until I hear
back from them or Wednesday - whichever comes first.

 Chad
The way the plugin works is it basically authenticates you and then it
sends a request to Sirius for a specific channel to play. Sirius
responds with a URL to play. The plugin then passes this URL to SC to
stream. SC handles the stream/audio/etc.

Newer Squeezeboxes are able to play WMA streams directly with hardware
decoding. Older Slimp3s do not have hardware decoding for WMA.
Therefore the server must transcode the WMA stream into something the
Slimp3 can play (MP3). On a Windows machine this is done with WMADEC
which should already be on your system.

I'm not sure exactly what WMA error you're receiving. You can try
enabling some other streaming/etc related debugging options to see if
they give any additional clues as to what's not working.

What version of the plugin/slimserver are you using? In SC7 the
preferences are now saved in a different location and I believe I've
resolved the double encryption problem.

If your old password is appearing again my guess would be that you
wiped the preferences while SlimServer was still running. If so it
probably re-wrote the file. Make sure SlimServer is stopped before
updating any files.

Got chance to play with this on a mac - does the attached mplayer.sh
work for people with a standard install of mplayer from the mplayer

You will need to rename the attached filed to mplayer.sh and place it

Unfortunately editing mplayer.sh didn't work either, though it did send

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC: mplayer on the Mac

2007-12-23 Thread danco

I don't feel like trying it, as it would mean disturbing a working
installation.

But a few points occur to me after looking at the file.

1. It might be worth adding the other lines, corresponding to
mplayer_ppc and mplayer_noaltivec, rather than just making the addition
for the intel Macs.

2. Because of a Mac/Unix difference in naming conventions, the folder
that mplayer.sh goes in in is named 'bin' rather than 'Bin'.

3. You need to warn people that the mplayer.sh file needs to be made
executable.

If I remember rightly (it's too late at night for me to check that I
have the syntax right) to do this,

open Terminal

typechmod a+x (the quote marks are not part of what you type, but
the space after x needs to be typed)

Now drag mplayer.sh into the Terminal window and its full name gets
filled in for you, so you don't have to type it (one of the clever
interactions of the Mac GUI with the Unix underpinnings).

Now press Return and the change is made for you.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC: mplayer on the Mac

2007-12-23 Thread danco

Oh, and another thought.

mplayer (in AlienBBC) uses lame, doesn't it?

And, if so, where will it find lame?

My recollection is that the standard installation of lame put it in
/usr/local/bin.

In which case, mplayer will find it if mplayer itself is in
/usr/local/bin.

Unfortunately, /usr/local/bin is not in the default PATH for a Mac.

Of course this can be changed, but if this is in fact necessary it is
harder than the Show Package Contents twice approach.

One could move lame so that PATH can reach it, but I am not sure that
this is a good idea (both for reasons of tidiness, and in case it
interferes with other uses of lame).

If something is needed, can mplayer.sh be modified to give the
reference to lame, or does that have to be done elsewhere.
