Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomScan reports error after removingGrabPlaylist

2008-01-18 Thread Phil Meyer
I think some people have had to remove the Cache/plugin-data.yaml file
to clear the cached information.
Okay, I'll try that. Sounds like a bug in SC though - if a plugin is removed,
it should remove the info from the cache?

Code:

   Now Playing
   1. SongTitle1
   SongTitle1

   Artist1

In this scenario, you will have mixers on the bottom level. This
level is by default provided by standard SlimServer but Custom Browse
can optionally replace it. I think the mixers are available on the
bottom level in both cases but I'm not completely sure. The mixer
implementation is different if the bottom menu is provided by
standard SlimServer or by the Custom Browse plugin. Adding a mixer to
the title in the bottom menu when Custom Browse handles it would just
be a matter of writing some XML files and a piece of perl code, the
hook is alread there. When standard SlimServer implements the bottom
level there is no hook available, so you would have to modify both
the plugin and the core code.
Yes, that is the Now Playing menu I was refering to, and it is your
custom browse plugin that I use to replace the standard SlimServer
implementation for the bottom level. I have mixers on the bottom level
for all the mixable items (artist, album, genre etc) but not for the
title.

I will have a look over the weekend to see whether I can understand
what is going on and whether I can add some perl and XML to get the
title to be mixable also. It should be an interesting small project for
me, and help me understand how it all works a bit better :)

erland;259576 Wrote:

However, as I understands it, you are really looking for a mixer on the
middle menu shown as 1. SongTitle1 in the sample ?
Again, yes you understand correctly, that was my original hope, but I
now see that this would be very difficult so if I could get the bottom
level title to work that would be brilliant.

Thanks again for your help.

I wish there was a Touch Mode for the Tree view as well. In that case

Oops, sorry..

No, Moose doesnt offer any visualization. It would be a nice feature to add,
but currently it's technically quite tricky (but not impossible).

I guess the way to do it would be to add some hooks into squeezeslave
which gave feeback about the audio. A winamp visualisation host could
then be written and the user could display whatever winamp viz they
liked. For hardware squeezeboxes, squeezeslave would just need to be
synced.

A 3rd party visualiser might be a nice project for someone to work on ?

Otherwise, is there a way of displaying winamp visualisations using
a virtual soundcard or wave in ?

For Custom Browse and Custom Scan, the first line or so of the page is
covered by the grey bar which includes the plugin name. For all the
other items (I don't have any of your other plugins loaded) this
doesn't happen.

I noticed that today too. It doesn't overlap any options, just masks the page
title.

Another minor thing though - the settings page (I'm using fishbone skin for
this as I think it doesn't work in SC7.0 default skin), for the Custom Browse
advanced settings, has a Home Custom Browse breadcrumb trail, which if
pressed will load the plugin webUI page within the settings window.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] MusicInfoSCR 3.99 Beta (SlimServer 7 only)

2008-01-18 Thread d4n3ll

I'm new to this so forgive me if I'm asking something dumb.

I'm running SC7 and the latest version of MusicInfoSc and am trying to
customize the vizualizer display on my Transporter.

What I'm trying to achieve is a change to the layout of the Extended
Display in the Now Playing screensaver and the playlist, but to leave
the main screen pretty much in its default layout.

My reason for not wanting to change the main screen playlist is that if
I use MusisInfoSCR to format the playlist the display becomes the same
for the track that is plaing and all other tracks, which I don't like,
as you can't tell which track is playing anymore (have I got something
wrong here?).

Anyway, customizing the Visualizer in both modes only seems to work if
BOTH the Customize Playlist Display and Extended Text Display are set
to use screensaver settings. If the Customize Playlist Display is left
on Default then the Vizualiser only displays the MIS customized display
in screensaver mode.

Am I missing something? Why are there two independent settings for
playlist and extended text displays if they don't actually work
independedntly?

Thanks for your help!

Well, thinking about it I might get access to the enabled state of the
plugin through the preferences? Will try that.

The softbuttons are more of a problem. Status.html doesn't really help.
since I have to have them on any screen EXCEPT status...
Maybe the plugin could have a call-through page? Although that would
not really be soft-coding. Or deliver the link through the JSON/RPC I/F
JSON is made to deliver JavScript code, so that could be quite handy...
I think what we can forget about at the moment, is to have the plugin
REPLACE standard buttons in a transparent way. But other than that we
could also just have a configuration page accessible from the main menu
that sets an iPeng preference and that is later being read by the
bottombar.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Headphone safety plugin? (extend Volume Lock??)

2008-01-18 Thread peterw

Yeah, that should be doable, especially if I ignore replaygain (which I
do use for my local collection, BTW), etc.

For pre-Receiver gear, the VolumeLock interface is terribly primitive:
'Play' to lock the volume, 'Add' to re-enable control. What if, for
pre-Receiver players, I just added something like 'Pause' to set the
current level as the maximum volume level? I should be able to code
that very quickly. Would you want it for SlimServer 6.5.x, or just for
SqueezeCenter 7?

Making a Jive/Controller interface for VolumeLock is in the middle of
my plugin todo list (after some SyncOptions and BottleRocket work). Is
a Jive/Controller interface something you'd have use for in the short
term?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Headphone safety plugin? (extend Volume Lock??)

2008-01-18 Thread bossanova808

Is there a plugin that can limit the maximum headphone output volume, to
protect ones ears from years of late night headphone listening and the
temptation to 'crank it to 11'? A lot of digi music players have this
option and while it may not be popular with the young folk, those of us
over 30 probably want to hang on to our senses for as long as we can!

If there isn't one, I might consider making one - I notice there is a
volume lock plugin, that might be a good place to poke around as a
starting point - or perhaps Peter this is something you'd find
easay-ish to add?

Especially given the duet controller, which may well end up in quite a
few bedrooms once it can play music directly, this would be a nice
feature.

Would be nice if it factored in replaygain and had a sensible defualt
max volume, but was configurable per player. Of course I guess the
actual output volume depends on the actual headphones and the strength
of signal needed to drive them...

Would this be interesting to anyone other than me?? Any further ideas
what it should do, how it should work etc?

I'm a total novice in Perl but have about 20 other languages behind me
so figure it can't be too hard to get started, but I run a business so
time is tight so if there is a volunteer out there that would find this
easy...that would be most excellent!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Navigating to TrackStat from a custom browsemenu

2008-01-18 Thread Phil Meyer
Do you have the latest TrackStat version ?

Yes

Have you customized the XML of the menu ?

I probably created the menu from a template from an old version of TrackStat.

The modes has changed name in SC7, so it is now called
Plugins::TrackStat::Plugin instead of PLUGIN.TrackStat::Plugin.

Could you look at the Browse templates directory configured for
Custom Browse, and remove the trackstat.template and trackstat.xml
files from it and use the Refresh link at the bottom of the Custom
Browse page in the web interface. Does this solve the problem ?

Didn't have a lot of luck doing that - the menu items just disappeared.

I recreated them - that was simple enough, and now have no problems.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Headphone safety plugin? (extend Volume Lock??)

2008-01-18 Thread bossanova808

Hmm why would you want to ignore ReplayGain? For people interested in
this, they're probaly interested in RG as well as it keeps things nice
and level and stops nasty surprises. Basically, let the system
calculate the volume based on the RG values and essentially, if it is
over the user threshold, limit the volume to the threshold, otherwise
leave it under.

I think might as well move to SC7 as I expect most will upgrade and why
spend time on legacy support of 6.5 when the change to SC7 are much of
an improvement - I suppose some cautious people will hang off for a
while, but the new GUI etc looks so attractive I think most people will
be tempted..

I do think a jive/sb interface would be useful but could certainly also
live with a web only version myself.

I'm happy to help if I can - I may not be useful with perl/development
unless I get into it a bit, but I can certainly help with testing etc,
and/or am willing to take on anything else useful you can think of!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng - Trackstat - Custom Browse - Dynamic Playlist etc plugin feedback

2008-01-18 Thread pippin

Erland,
if you read this: is there a way to determine, whether TrackStat is
activated? I can find out if it is installed by checking for a string,
however I did not yet find a way to determine if it's running.
Of course I could run a call through the JSON/RPC I/F but I would
prefer an HTML method.

actually a settings page for this plugin (I'm new to it...)?

 Yep. That's exactly the problem.

 will do nothing not nice.
It might not be that bad, users are probably either not going to
install TrackStat at all or install it and enable it. I don't think
there are a lot of users that choose to install it and disabled it, in
this case they probably uninstall it.

pippin;260198 Wrote:

try ;-) BTW, that MAY also cause trouble for soft-coding the shortcut
buttons on the bottom of the screen.
You are right. I guess I'll have to go and see if I can find some other
hole we can use for the shortcut buttons.

One solution that probably would work would be if iPeng was bundled in
a plugin. In this case the Now Playing page could be handled by the
plugin instead, and the plugin could call the standard status.html perl
code and add some parameters by it own that would be accessible from the
templates. For example the shortcut buttons and the TrackStat enabled
flag. I'm not completely sure if the status.html perl code can be
reused this way, so this is something that needs to be checked in case
you like to go this way.

But I can understand if you like to avoid bundling it in a plugin since
it would mean that you also would have to maintain some perl code. Let
me know if you like to bundle it in a plugin and want some help writing
a simple plugin that does the necessary stuff.

I don't think so, the TrackStat plugin is never called when you show
the Now Playing page.

I suppose you don't have access to the additionalLinks hash from the
Now Playing page ?

What you probably want is a way to detect if a plugin is enabled, but I
have no idea if this is information is available in the skin HTML
templates.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Navigating to TrackStat from a custom browsemenu

2008-01-18 Thread erland

Do you have the latest TrackStat version ?

Have you customized the XML of the menu ?

The modes has changed name in SC7, so it is now called
Plugins::TrackStat::Plugin instead of PLUGIN.TrackStat::Plugin.

I changed this in TrackStat 2.0.beta04.

If you have the latest version, I suspect you might have used the
download buttons. I think the download buttons currently downloads the
latest 6.5 versions of the menu templates, because I don't want all
users using 6.5 to be affected by 7.0 releases. The download
application currently just offers the latest version and it currently
points to my 6.5 branch.

Could you look at the Browse templates directory configured for
Custom Browse, and remove the trackstat.template and trackstat.xml
files from it and use the Refresh link at the bottom of the Custom
Browse page in the web interface. Does this solve the problem ?

Are we talking about the standard Genres menu under Custom Browse ?
 The structure should be:

Code:

   Custom Browse
   Genres
   Pop
   Artist1
   Album1
   Track1
   Track2

Are you saying that you see duplicate entries in the track level in
 this hierarchy ?

Have you changed any settings in the Custom Browse configuration for
 the Genres menu ?

Yes, there are duplicate entries. I am using the built-in Genre menu
under Custom Browse.

erland;260006 Wrote:

I kind of like the idea.
I think it would be possible to have a selection listbox in the menus
settings for each menu where you could configure each level if you
liked it to play by adding all tracks or if you like it to start a
 specific dynamic playlist.

I have to look at this in a bit more detail, to know how much work it
is. However, it'll have to wait some time until I have released
official versions for SqueezeCenter 7.0 and fixed some other more
 urgent problems.

Of course, first things first. In the mean time I am still using
Slimserver 6.5 and will switch to 7.0 in due time.

An item Dynamic Playlist and beneath that you will get the new genre
based random playlist you have created.

Does it show up if you navigate to the Dynamic Playlist menu in the
web interface ?

After you have navigated to the Dynamic Playlist menu, could you try
again. I don't remember when it refreshed the information, so it might
be that you need to goto the Dynamic Playlist menu once before it
works.

Yes, you should see a PL icon if it works.

Yes, it does. If hit the play icon next to it, it generates a playlist
15 items long. The first 9 are all from one genre, the next 6 are all
from another genre. If I hit clear and then the play icon again, I get
another similar playlist containing a series of songs from two different
genres (the first genre matches the last one from the previous
playlist). A third press of the play icon gives a playlist with just
10 songs in it, all from one genre. I'm not sure what behavior to
expect from this playlist when invoked from the Dynamic Playlists menu,
but that seems strange.

Still don't see the PL icon, when navigating through Custom Browse |
Genres/Subgenres, or Custom Browse | Genres.

I'm running ss 6.5.1 on XP with Dynamic Playlists 1.13 and Custom
Browse 1.20.2.
