Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Where to find SqueezePlay for 7.2

2008-12-21 Thread erland

The desktop version of SqueezePlay was introduced in 7.3 so it doesn't
exist in a 7.2 version.

All available pre-built binary downloads can be found here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/

If you like to use the Controller version of SqueezePlay 7.2 and run it
on a Mac, you can download the source from svn and compile it yourself,
see here for more information:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay_Build_Instructions

The main difference between the 7.2 Controller version and the 7.3
desktop version is that it doesn't have audio playback and you can't
run it in a large window.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2008-12-21 Thread esbrewer

FYI - intall of new plugin may have caused an issue between the plugin
and mplayer for me. Never had issues with mplayer prior to this
install.

Stream was playing per SB3 and SC web interface but with no audio. SC
settings for file types indicated mplayer not found. I replaced the
existing file for mplayer with the version included with the latest
AlienBBC package for Mac OS and everything is ok.

Thanks again for the work - it's great to see the live track info.

Greg -

Have the beta version installed and working on WinXP and latest 7.3.
One-click to music playing, Direct URL and favorites all working!

As noted in another post, no song titles are in the player
(Squeezeplay) or 'now playing frame' just the url (e.g.,
siriusradio://60/The Highway).

The artist - title is in the web UI left frame? Also noted that the
title source option remains in the settings page but your description
says the info. is direct from the Sirius stream?

Thanks for your continued work on this!!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR on Boom - Not getting far..

2008-12-21 Thread socistep

Hi All,

Can anyone help with this? I followed the instructions as per the
following link

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Make_Boom_look_like_the_Box

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 and my Plugins directory (as per the settings
page) is

/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

I've downloaded and extracted the files into a folder under the
following location and stopped and restarted squeezecenter (version
7.3), I can see the plugin listed under the Settings > Plugin tab
within SC. However when I go into Settings > Player and then pick my
Boom and "Basic Settings" to change the 'Screensaver when playing'
setting then I can't see the 'Music Information Screen' option nor can
I change any settings for the plugin itself.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here ? All help appreciated

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP Import

2008-12-21 Thread lapusey

I'm baffled by the behavior of the squeezecenter scanner when it tries
to import my MusicIP library.

For the first few attempts, the scan would get about 3/4 through the
library and quit. This appears to have been the result of special
characters in the names of files and/or folders (i.e. 'P!NK' had to be
renamed 'Pink').

Once I got past that issue the following has presented itself...

MusicIP Library has 20,421 tracks.

SqueeezeCenter scans all 20,421 then indicates a resulting 20,253
tracks.

Rhapsody files that were downloaded onto my machine (90 total) don't
get imported and I understand that is likely the result of licensing.
The other 80 missing songs includes about 30 track that I bought on
Amazon.com just this week (they indicate no licensing restrictions and
are not protected).

Is there a spec that could help me understand what files will and will
not be imported?

btw, the import takes about 1/2 hour to complete. This seems to be very
slow for just scanning a library.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It was intended to be a lightweight process to make sure plugins from
new authors didn't do anything which could mess up the server or
someone's PC. Definately not looking to comment on code quality or
style... My original intention was to add some degree of community led
self policing, but still allowing new plugin author's work to make it to
the recommended list - we want to continue to encourage new authors, so
I didn't want to make the process restrict us to the most active
authors here... Lets see how it goes.

2008-12-21 Thread juniper

I have just started to use the plugin for the very first time. I have
installed it via the Extension Downloader. I have configered the plugin
as best I could under Settings. My city is Duisburg Germany and the
correct information shows on the text ribbon that travels across my SB3
screen. So far so good

However I have two problems which probably result from my being unable
to work out where the settings should be configured. These do not
appear as options on the current SuperDateTime settings on the plugins
tab.

1) When the ribbon abruptly changes to a current snapshot it changes
from Celsius to Fahrenheit (Celsius shows correctly on the ribbon), and
I cannot work out where this can be specified..

2) Where do I specify that I want a 10 day forecast? My fwd / rew
buttons on my remote control do not page through the forecast days, the
buttons trigger the Now Playing station.

Thanks in anticipation

SugarCube is started in the "Extras" menu.
A MusicIP mix is started by holding play down for a few seconds on any
item in the browse menus.
If you have Dynamic Playlist plugin installed, you can also start
SugarCube from the Dynamic Playlist menu.

As you already seems to know, MusicIP will just create a mix of a
number of tracks and won't add any new tracks while SugarCube will
continue to add new tracks until you disable it in the "Extras" menu.

Another difference is that MusicIP will create a mix based on a single
track while SugarCube creates a new mix every time it add another
track. The result is that with SugarCube it will continue to generate
new mixes and eventually flow through your whole library.

I suspect we are going to need some kind of instructions regarding the
"review" process. What are we suppose to review, is it "just" that the
plugin doesn't include malicious code or are we talking about a general
review of the code to get an idea of the code quality ?
If you want this to be done correctly it could take some time, finding
malicious code could be pretty hard since if someone decides to do
something bad they are probably also going to try to hide it in the
code.

I'm guessing that there is a risk that we are going to get a lot of
"supported" plugins but very few where someone has actually bothered to
review the code.

Using third party plugins is always a risk. Today when I install a
third party plugin I generally trust a developer and not a particular
plugin. If the developer earlier has shown to write good plugins that
doesn't do anything bad, I just install new plugins from the same
developer without reviewing the code. If a new developer announce a
plugin, I either wait until some users has tried it or I take a quick
look at the code to see if it looks like the developer knows what he is
doing.

I wonder if the review process actually will protect us against
anything. If someone intentionally likes to do something bad, they are
just going to hide it in the code or release an initial version which
is save to get into the recommended list and then release the malicious
version as an upgrade when they are already on the recommended list.

I suppose the only thing the review process is going to protect us
against is that new developers who don't know what they are doing can't
get on the recommended list until their code has been cleaned up by
someone.

5.5.1 is an old version. I think you have an older version of SDT that

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP or Sugarcube playlist?

2008-12-21 Thread MeSue

One advantage to MusicIP is that it is bundled plugin so it will always
work with new SC releases. Sugarcube is a third party thing and the
author has to maintain it to keep it compatible with SC updates.

I guess the main advantage to Sugarcube is you can enable it and let it
go, and (theoretically) it should just keep adding new tracks endlessly,
until you intervene and disable it. I found it too quirky so I just
stick with the standard MIP plugin.

Hi all,
I was pleasantly suprised about this ticket being opened and fixed in
my back :-)
'Bugzilla – Bug 7995 Send WOL from Boom before alarm is due'
I can't really tell if it works on the Boom as advertised (I use RTC
wake) but I am almost sure it doesn't work yet on SB3 (unless it's
sophisticated and doesnt fire the WOL packets when the last known
server is SN). I would be amazed to see the SB3 doing the trick too one
of these days.

Soon it's going to be very hard for a server to find an excuse being
late to an alarm...

In other news, for Gordon: I am wrapping-up my Xmas gifts; I did a last
check on the strings.txt file for srvPowerControl, and I found 2 or 3
instances of lines labeled like this:
EN
EN
instead of EN and FR, of course.
If those errors are in the file I posted, please correct. Sorry for

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Nominations for Recommended 3rd Party Plugins

2008-12-21 Thread Triode

Squeezecenter 7.3 and later includes a list of recommended 3rd party
plugins as part of the Extension Downloader mechanism for installing
plugins.

Members of this forum can propose new entries for the recommended list
and flag if existing entries are no longer supported and so should be
removed.

To be considered for the recommended list a plugin should be:
- already published via an Extension Downloader repository and listed
on the repository wiki
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories)
- supported by several users of this forum and reviewed to ensure it
does not have malicious intent
- suitable for the majority of users and so does not require excessive
memory or other resources which are likely to impact the normal
performance of SqueezeCenter
- agreed by Logitech and not overlapping with core Squeezecenter
functionality

To ensure we only include popular plugins which have been reviewed and
are known not to include malicious code, recommendations should be
supported by 3 "senior" forum members, one of which has reviewed the
code.

[If you would like to comment on the recommendation process please post
to: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56697 and keep this
thread for nominations.]

Please use this thread for your nominations.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP or Sugarcube playlist?

2008-12-21 Thread webrits

I've just recently installed both of these and got them working (I
think!).
Question is how do I know if I'm listening too a musicIP playlist or a
Sugarcube generated playlist? I've eneabled sugarcube in the extras
menu.
Are both playlists started using the same method ie. holding down the
play button for a couple of secs?
Also what is the real advantage of one over the other? I understand
that musicip creates a playlist consisting of preset number of tracks
and sugarcube just keeps queueing tracks continually, but is that it or
am I missing some funtionality of one over the other?

Absolutely loving the whole musicIP thing thoughlistened to tracks
I didn't know I had.

Many Thanks

I completely agree - an excellent plugin. It gives the display such a
"clean" look.

I just installed this plugin, which brings up a point about the utility
of Extension Downloader.

At the end of installing a new plugin, a message box appears "Please
restart SqueezeCenter for the changes to take effect". The only option
here is "OK".

Wouldn't it be much more useful instead to have two buttons:

"Restart SqueezeCentre now"

"I'll do it myself later"

which is what most programs do when installing an update that requires a
restart.

No, they're not, at least not in the publicly released versions. There
is a special "zen" version that's designed this way, but that's
available only at select zendos and ashrams.

Not.

I'm not sure what's going on here. This is the first report of this
type I've seen. My suggestion is that you completely erase the
/var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins/SrvrPowerCtrl folder tree and then put
the newest version of the plugin back in place. Then delete the
srvrpowerctrl.prefs file at
/var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs/plugin/srvrpowerctrl.prefs (I don't
remember off hand where this file resides on Windows systems).

If your server is running linux or somesuch, make sure you fixup the
ownership of the plugin files after install:

chown -R /var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins/

Then restart squeezecenter and see if it behaves better. Please let me
know what it takes to iron out this kink. Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: FindArt plugin beta

2008-12-21 Thread bpa

I forgot to post this when 7.3 was released.

The update to FindArt for Squeezecenter 7.3 is ready and can be
installed using the Extension Downloader (ED) a new feature of 7.3
which is accessed through Settings/Plugins/Extension
Downloader/settings.

Install instructions for FindArt plugin are below following some
explanation about the ED.

*About Extension Downloader*
The Extension Downloader (ED) is an automated method for installing,
updating and removing plugins, applets, InfoBrowser Addons etc from
repositoryies. Currently the public repository is small but it will be
expanded to hold popular/recommnded plugins etc.

Currently most Plugins are in private repositories and the user will
have add URLs to the "Additional Repositories" list. The FindArt is in
my repository at URL. URLs for other repositories can be found here
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories

Feedback on the functionality, ease of use, shortcoming, problems etc
on ED is needed so that it can be improved for the next release.

*To install FindArt plugin*
1. If you have a version of the FindArt plugin already installed in SC
7.3 then it needs to be deleted and SC restarted SC.
2. Open SC Setting/Plugins/Extension Downloader/Settings
3. Add this URL http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo.xml to
"Additional Repositories" and click Apply.
4. A list of Plugins should be displayed. Check the box opposite the
FindArt plugin and click apply.
5. If Installation is successful - restart SC.

The Extension Downloader does not install plugins into the
server/Plugins or the server/Slim/Plugin directory. It will install
plugin into a new directory called InstalledPlugin in Sc's cahce
directory. The path to the SC cache direciry can be found on the
Settings/Information web page near the bottom of the page.

Using ED is the preferred installation method but if the user really
wants to install manually from a zip file then the FindArt plugin is
available from the following location
http://code.google.com/p/bpaplugins/downloads/list

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Disappearing BBC ident

2008-12-21 Thread Countryman

A really weird problem. I have been running Alien BBC v2.2b1 - 7.1_7.2
perfectly successfully with SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 - 23630 for some time
on Vista 64 but today the station identification on the SB3 has
disappeared! The only thing on the display is "NOW PLAYING", the time
and the volume bars. The ident (ie BBC 2) has gone. I have some US
stations stored and these still show the identification so it is an
Alien BBC problem. Any thoughts?

Cheers.

Gordon, I'm missing something.
I upgraded SC to 7.3 and also upgraded Server Power Control to

Settings all the command boxes were empty - e.g. instead of
"c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /B psshutdown.exe -accepteula -c
-f -k -t 20" it was blank or maybe had "0".
Reverting back to 20080807a restored the commands but of course a few
options were left out.
Are the command boxes meant to be empty ?

I went back to 7.3-1 last night and all is well. I wonder why all the

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR problem, possible bug

2008-12-21 Thread erland

Michael, hopefully you are seeing this.

I have some problem with the Title Switcher plugin when it integrates
with MusicInfoSCR. The problem is the following code in Info.pm in
MusicInfoSCR:

Code:

  if ( $client->pluginData('remoteData') ) {

foreach my $tag (@remoteTags) {
$formattedString =~ s/$tag/_MIS_REMOTE_$tag/g;
}

  }

The problem with this is that if $formattedString is set to
"TITLESWITCHERALBUMARTIST" this code section will replace it to
"_MIS_REMOTE_TITLESWITCHER_MIS_REMOTE_ALBUM_MIS_REMOTE_ARTIST". It's of
course correct to do the replacement if $formattedString was "TITLE -
ARTIST" but I think it's incorrect if TITLE or ARTIST is part of a
another word (like TITLESWITCHERARTIST, ALBUMARTIST). Is it possible to
change this so it replaces the remoteTags keywords if they are found as
separate words but not if they are found as part of a another word ?

I can do an ugly correction in Title Switcher to solve it, but I would
prefer avoiding dependencies in Title Switcher to MusicInfoSCR
internals like the string _MIS_REMOTE_ and the @remoteTags array.
