Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] TriColor plugin

2009-03-21 Thread homunculus

I copied the files into the SC plugins folder and I see this plugin
listed under Settings->Player->Basic Settings->TricolorLED. However,
the plugin page is blank, there are no settings to tweak. How do you
actually change the colors of the LED?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarCube (Automatic MusicIP DJ)

2009-03-21 Thread Phil Meyer
Lately, I've had a couple of issues playing Spicefly SugarCube mixes via
Dynamic Playlist as a morning alarm:

1. I have configured a filter in MusicIP "not low rating", that excludes tracks
rated 1-3 (so I get unrated tracks or 4-5 *). I have selected this filter in
the SugarCube "Use MusicIP Mix Filter each Hour" settings for hours in the
morning. However, I do sometimes get low-rated tracks picked for playback.

2. Occasionally, nothing plays when the alarm goes off. The Now Playing screen
says it is playing Dynamic Playlist. I hit play, and after a short pause, it
starts to play. I'm wondering if this could be related to (3) below - maybe
the first track it picks randomly as a seed has a special character that causes
this behaviour? Haven't seen anything odd in the logs yet.

3. After playing a track that has special characters (eg. "&") in the url, no
track is queued to play next. This has been reported elsewhere already.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezeslave, ReplayGain and Bitrate Limiting

2009-03-21 Thread ralphy

I totally understand the time constraints, I've been really busy lately
as well. There's no hurry whatsoever. SS works quite well in it's
current state. I too like the headless player option. I took over
maintaining SS because I didn't want to be forced into using the
SqueezePlay gui, when a browser with the classic skin does such a great
job. It's great being able to fire up squeezeslave from a shared drive
on whatever system I'm using and listen to my music collection, without
all the baggage of Java or Jive.

The playing of the little bit of left over buffer has been a problem
for as long as I can remember. At least since version 0.6. Long
before I took over maintaining it. I've heard it for so long now that
I don't notice it any more. It really should at least be on my TODO
list for SSAdded.

I have noticed the sudden loudness change on beginning/end of tracks a
couple times while testing. I haven't been able to reproduce it
consistantly yet, to have a test case to track it down. Normally I
don't use replay gain at all, personally I don't like it. I have
mapped the volume and mute keys on my keyboard to a bash script to
change the volume on my SS player as needed. I've had smart gain
enabled for a while now at work, trying to track down this problem. No
luck so far. So any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly.
The problem is that I can't build the alphabet index if I sort myself
and that I don't get the ALBUMSORT tag from SC.
Will be fixed in iPeng 1.1 if you use SC 7.3.2 or newer (which has
support for sending the necessary text key for the index).

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. So I’ll wait and see what comes up

Btw, I think a see the "empty menu" bug gone, at least haven’t

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomBrowse: Artists, various kinds and counts -- clarification needed

2009-03-21 Thread Moonbase

SC lists the Artist count in my library as 4360.

CustomBrowse shows these counts on my library (26,208 songs):

- Artists: 4360
- Artist Sortnames: 3379
- Album Artists: 1312
- Album Artist Sortnames: 1579
- Track Artists: 653

I could explain the differences between -Artists- and -Artist
Sortnames-, -Album Artists- and -Album Artist Sortnames- by not having
tagged all sortnames (though I wonder why I have more -Album Artist
Sortnames- than -Album Artists-.

Still, it seems I don’t fully understand the differences between
-Artists-, -Track Artists-, and -Album Artists-. For example, I would
have considered a "Track Artist" being essentially the same as an
"Artist" because (s)he appears on "tracks". The numbers above seem to
indicate something else.

- How exactly are the numbers calculated?
- Why don’t I have as many -Track Artists- as I have -Artists-?
They are per track, aren’t they?
- What exactly is considered an -Artist-?
- What exactly is considered an -Album Artist-? (Just from the tag,
  or from some SC "assumptions"?)
- What exactly is considered a -Track Artist-?

If someone could come up with an explanation that’s both
"enduser-understandable" plus lets me understand the technical (SC/CB)
background, I’d be really delighted. Thanks in advance.

I think this could have been that my ratings were not fully synced from
SqueezeCenter to MusicIP. I just used CustomScan to export ratings to MusicIP,
and now I have a few hundred more tracks with ratings than I had before.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SC runs VERY slowly with Multi-library installed

2009-03-21 Thread chill

I've recently transferred my SC setup from my main XP computer to a
slightly lower spec XP box that is primarily for the kids to do their
homework on. It's a nice quiet, low power box, yet SC runs nice and
snappy. I had Erland's Multi-Library and Custom Browse plugins
installed on the main computer previously, and they worked perfectly,
allowing me to separate my wife's iTunes music and playlists from the
'master' library. However, on transferring everything to the other PC,
the multi-library plugin makes everything grind to a halt. With it
installed, SC takes an age (many minutes) to start up, every click
inside the SC interface takes minutes to respond, SC occupies the CPU
at virtually 100%, and the hard disk churns away continuously.

I'm at a loss to explain this, since as far as I can see the two SC
setups are the same. I've cleared out the multi-library libraries,
I've tried every combination of Custom Browse and/or Multi-Library, and
I've concluded that even a basic fresh install of just Multi-Library
(without Custom Browse), even with no libraries defined, is enough to
cause this behaviour.

I did some searching and found reference to a similar problem, but with
a much earlier version of Multi-Library. I'm using the current version
2.3.1.

It looks suspiciously like a RAM problem (all the disk churning), as
though Windows is having to page memory continuously. The lower spec
PC has 1GB, where the previous one had 4GB. Does Multi-Library use a
lot of RAM?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2009-03-21 Thread dip

Erland, thanks a lot for the two lines display in album browsing on the
controller!

But in the new version there seem to be new bugs. I have a CustomBrowse
menu for my classical music having a structure like

Code:

Classical Music
  - Composer
  - Work (and further sub menus)
  - Work
  - Composer (and further sub menus)
  - Album
  - Work (and further sub menus)
  - Artist
  - Album (and further sub menus)

In this menu structure under the two Album levels no entries are shown.
These worked with the previous version of CustomBrowse and it still
works on my Squeezeboxes (only the controller shows empty album sub
menus).

I have also an album main menu entry for my non classical music which
works.

And further, as already reported by Moonbase, it takes a long time
until the menu entries are displayed under my non classical album and
also under my non classical artist main menu entry.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SC runs VERY slowly with Multi-library installed

2009-03-21 Thread erland

The number of libraries define will affect the startup performance.

The first time SqueezeCenter is started with a new version of Multi
Library/Custom Browse is started it will take a bit longer time because
it creates a cache with the menu data to speed up the next SqueezeCenter
restart. However, it sounds like you have the startup issues every
restart and not just the first ?

Is there any difference regarding installed anti virus software ? This
could probably slow down all read and write operations a bit.

It's really strange if you get the problem with no libraries defined
and without Custom Browse installed. Is this really the case ?

How does the memory usage look like in the Windows Task Manager ? Are
you running out of memory or is there a lot of free memory left ?

I had a further problem with a menu comprising a German umlaut in the
