Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Playlist Manager v4.0 released

2009-03-30 Thread Phil Meyer
But wasn't there a difference on clicking add.single and add.hold if
browsing an album? Now my SB always adds the whole album to current
playlist. Is there no way to change the mapping to the track context
behaviour?

I don't understand your question. With the display showing an album, add
should always add an album. If it were to only add a song, which song on the
album would you expect it to add?
When displaying a song, it could either add just the song or the whole album
(depending on the player setting Play Other Songs In Album).

add.hold = BrowseAddMenu is the line that replaces any existing
functionality, such that it calls my plugin. If you remove that, then the old
behaviour will be restored.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

My music library is on my NAS organized by iTunes, I'm streaming this
over my wireless network to a normal Squeezebox. The iPeng is set up to
acces this player. Squeezecentre is running on my PC (not the NAS).

My music library is over 10,000 tracks so probably about 1,000 albums.

OK, that's still small. Big for 1.0.5 is anything beyond 4.000
albums, for 1.0 it would be anything beyond 10.000 albums.

The playlists can vary from a few tracks to a few hundred in length, I
will experiment tonight to see if the playlist size is an issue.

The rebuffereing issue can start as soon as I launch iPeng on my
 iPhone.

I'm not sure if it would still be syncing the cache, how can I find
 this out?

If you see artwork on the browse pages it's not syncing anymore. iPeng
should not sync the cache for longer than a minute with your setup.
Except for artwork, I will explain later what I mean with this.

This _is_ a bit strange.
iPeng DOES communicate permanently with your server and it is indeed a
bit more verbose than the SBC in doing so (at least 1.0.5) because it
polls data. However, it's _not_ more verbose than the default skin on
the web interface.
I can't see how this normal polling of status information could affect
your server, especially if it's a full-blown PC (some NAS are really
slow on SC performance, though, but your SC is not running on a NAS).

Now the only ways I could see how iPeng affects your setup is either
a) You use WiFi and you are at the brink of having not enough bandwidth
and the additional comms of the iPod gets it beyond that. In this case
browsing with Safari should have the same effect
b) iPeng does communicate a bit more during startup, it will sync the
cache (full sync only when you have made changes to your server's
database) and it will request the current playlist, which can be a lot
of data for long playlists (I'm talking several hundred tracks here).
But if this holds up your streaming, it would again mean your server
has to be really busy. Do you use transcoding?
c) it's the network interface to your NAS. Is your SC cache folde also
on the NAS? Usually, SC does not communicate to the data source with
one notable exception: when you first synchronize your cache (actually:
whenever you access an album fist), SC will generate thumbnails of your
artwork and for that it will have to read the full artwork, in cace of
embedded artwork that's a whole audio file and if that file is
FLAC
I see that _I_ get rebuffering issues when I transfer large amounts of
data to my server (my SC is running on a Mini-ITX server), there's
obviously a throughput issue then.
If it's c it should eventually stop and generally get better over
time since SC itself will cache the artwork thumbnails and not
re-generate them when you start iPeng the second time (unless you do a
clear and rescan).

I suppose the main reason is because I'm using the display of the SB3
as an indicator and to display the Weather plugin rather than listen to
music. So when I hit the power button on the IR remote the SC server
wakes up. But the SB display stays blank. My preference is that the SB
wakes up once the SC is alive and displays the wether plugin which also
indicates visually to me the powerful server is now awake.

Sounds like maybe this is the route I should explore for my specific

couple of simple modifications to SrvrPowerCtrl's code in order to make
 this happen.

The likelihood is that my SBB will always go to SN, whereas my SB3 will

Yes, there is.

First, you need to go to MusicIP Mixer's options, and make sure
Services MusicIP Mixer API is checked and started.

Then, you need to get MusicIP started before SqueezeCenter.
If, during install time, you've asked SqueezeCenter to automatically
start up at system boot, change this so that it'll rather start up on
session opening (have a look in System preferences SqueezeCenter).

Finally, you need to get MusicIP started automatically when your
session opens : right-click on MIP's icon in the dock and check the
option.

Now, reboot your computer and everything should be working as expected.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-03-30 Thread gharris999

I take it that the big server running SC is your Vista 64 box as is
stated in your sig? If so, I'll start working on a couple of script
templates that should be pretty easy for you to modify. What OS is on
the little server?

I'm not completely sure about what's going on with your SB3, though.
If you have the WeatherTime screen saver selected as your screensaver
for both off and stopped, and if you set the screensaver delay time
to a low number of seconds, and if the display brightness is 0 for
those modes, you ought to get exactly what you want now, without
needing any scripts.

Anyway, tell me if I'm understanding this correctly:

_On_\big\_server_shutdown/suspend/hibernation:_

Connect SB3 to little server (where it's configured to display the
WeatherTime screen saver?).

Connect SBB to SqueezeNetwork.

_On_\big\_server_wakeup:_

Pull SB3 back from low power server and connect to big server.

Pull SBB back from SN and connect to big server.

Have I got that right? If so, one big problem that I'm seeing is that
there isn't any easy way to wake up the big server from either the
SB3 or the SBB. I don't believe that either of them will show the
big server in the music source list once the big server has gone to
sleep. If the little server stays on 24/7, we could just pick one of
the SrvrPowerCtrl actions on the little server (say, hibernate) and
have the hibernate SrvrPowerCtrl command point to a script that WOLed
the big server, waited a bit and then switched the SB3 over from
little to big. You could then map that command to the sleep+hold
button on the remote. Thus, when the SB3 is connected to little, a
sleep+hold press on the remote would 1) power up big and 2) switch
the SB3 from little to big. When big wakes up, SrvrPowerCtrl
would snatch the SBB back from SqueezeNetwork.

We could have a similar script on big that did the opposite: push the
SB3 onto little, switch the SBB to SN and then suspend big. Again,
that could be mapped to the sleep+hold button.

Is this the sort of thing you're getting at?

Hi erland,

I have investigated this further. I looked at all the punctuation in my
mp3s to see which caused issues and which didn't. The list is below:

OK: , - ! . / : ; ? + = # ( )
Not OK: ' [ ]

this means about 5000 songs of my 12198 songs don't have ratings. To
give you some data to work with I took 1 mp3, copied it 20 times and
changed the title to 'abcdef' and then the punctuation character ie
abcdef'. I then took these mp3s are did a database query for them. The
results are:

the order of the tracks is , - ! . / : ; ? @ [] + = # () * ' ie
# = %23 and ' = %27.

One thing I did notice which might be relevant (or not) is I have the
option 'use album rating' under Custom Scan: Tunes Statistics Import
set. This will set a rating for an unrated song with a ' in.

Any ideas?

2009-03-30 Thread bpa

Try using ecasound as it is better at buffer handling and may stop the
rebuffering if audio h/w is the issue.

Otherwise it is possible to increase the buffer of audio from plugin to
SC but this increases delay.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-03-30 Thread Paul_B

I'm not completely sure about what's going on with your SB3, though. If
you have the WeatherTime screen saver selected as your screensaver for
both off and stopped, and if you set the screensaver delay time to
a low number of seconds, and if the display brightness is 0 for those
modes, you ought to get exactly what you want now, without needing any
 scripts.

Spot on I had this setup incorrectly. Now if I set it up as you
explained above it works as I want. That is when big server is
powered-off the SB3 display goes off. When the big server resumes it
now shows the Weather screen saver (even though the SB3 is powered) but
that is what I want because I know the server is now up.

gharris999;411395 Wrote:
Anyway, tell me if I'm understanding this correctly:

 _On_\big\_server_shutdown/suspend/hibernation:_

Connect SB3 to little server (where it's configured to display the
 WeatherTime screen saver?).

Almost when the SB3 is connected to the little server it should be
off and only come on when an emergency message needs to be sent from
the HA. Is this going to be possible now I have just configured the SB3
option for off to be weather plugin?

gharris999;411395 Wrote:
 Connect SBB to SqueezeNetwork.

 _On_\big\_server_wakeup:_

Pull SB3 back from low power server and connect to big server.

Pull SBB back from SN and connect to big server.

That is my utopia solution yes.

gharris999;411395 Wrote:
Have I got that right? If so, one big problem that I'm seeing is that
there isn't any easy way to wake up the big server from either the
 SB3 or the SBB.

I remember a bug with SC whereby WOL packets would be sent to the MAC
address of the original server setup with the SB3 even if the IP address
later changed. I'm wondering if I / we can take advantage of this by
having the MAC address set to the big server but the IP address set to
the low power server until we switch it?

gharris999;411395 Wrote:
If the little server stays on 24/7, we could just pick one of the
SrvrPowerCtrl actions on the little server (say, hibernate) and
have the hibernate SrvrPowerCtrl command point to a script that WOLed
the big server, waited a bit and then switched the SB3 over from
little to big.

That sounds like a good plan. As a matter of interest can a press and
hold action be assigned to any other key? For example press and hold 1
send SB from big to small while press and hold 2 sends SB from small to
big?

gharris999;411395 Wrote:
Is this the sort of thing you're getting at?

I'd say you understand what I was asking about perfectly

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2009-03-30 Thread Veggen

I do not think it is a buffering problem.
As mentioned, the wavin:default stream has no choppiness or rebuffering
at all.

The distortion I notice sounds more like a clipping issue.

Will look into ecasound.

The live feed still isn't working for me, but I don't know how often the
plugin pulls the feed - every time you click a link or one a day, once a
week, etc.

One thing I did notice which might be relevant (or not) is I have the

Are you saying that it works if you check the use album rating check
box ?
Does it only work for unrated tracks ?

The use album rating checkbox reads album ratings from iTunes if no
track rating exists, if it isn't checked it just reads track ratings
from iTunes.

If it always completely works when you check the use album rating
checkbox it feels strange that characters has anything to do with the
problem.

I'll have to set this up in my own environment but since I do this on
my spare time I haven't had the time to do it yet.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlists as Favorites and Alarms

 1. How to set up a Favorite that plays a Dynamic Playlist

Use the heart icon in the web interface or go to SqueezeCenter
Settings/Plugins/Dynamic Playlists/Favorite Playlists and check the
playlist you like to setup as a favorite.

Yes!

 2. How to set up an Alarm that plays a Dynamic Playlist

You will have to setup the playlist as a favorite, after that it will
be selectable as an alarm playlist.

And again, yes!

Thanks so much. Maybe this was obvious to others, so simple really, but it
really just completely eluded me.

Well, you've made two kids very happy, they can now rate songs to their
hearts' content and be woken up in the morning by a nice random mix of
their favorites.

And thanks again for your excellent plugins.
