2009-05-16 Thread cparker

Quick update to announce version 1.9beta. See the website for further
details, please note this is a beta release and has a lot of new code in
it which may or may not function correctly :)

Main New Features
Coming Up Next Display
Per player opt in and opt out
Mix by Genre which overrides Filters

Note it will NOT work with 7.4 due to the core database changes, once
7.4 is stable and the current release I will look at what changes are
required.

2009-05-16 Thread Chewie

All my play counts and ratings still appear to be there after the
upgrade to 7.4 – 26558, which is a massive relief to put it mildly. I
don’t understand why, I’m just relieved they are, perhaps this is a
lesson for me and the nightly upgrades, don’t mess with what you don’t
understand.

What is my best course of action now? Go back to an earlier nightly,
install the latest nightly or just leave it as it is?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just to make sure: you didn't enter the asterisks around $element by
mistake? They're not supposed to be there, got added by some automatic

No, i can't reproduce it. Happens sometimes when the touch is still

It also doesn't happen with the same tracks everytime. I can still
switch through the different screens and add tracks to the actual

I tried out v1.9beta and it seems to do nothing. Previously had v1.8.4

fine.

There is no option to switch Sugarcube on/off in the settings page.
Could this be the problem?

The AAC+ plugin is no longer required from 7.3.3.

In 7.3.3 Slimdevices now provide support for AAC+ streams through the
faad and between using faad and other changes in 7.3.3, I believe the
delay has been minimised but you should test it out yourself.

7.3.3 is in beta at the moment - due to be released very soon. It is
very stable.

7.4 is the next major release but it is alpha code which means often
stable but occasionally unstable for a few weeks. At present it is
"unstable" as big changes have been made to stop using MySQL and start
using SQLite again.

After a reboot of the whole system, it did work, for about 20 minutes.
Now I cannot get it to work at all, even if I reboot the machine or just
the SqueezeCenter service.

Here's the last few errors in the log:

[09-05-16 01:01:29.1989] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (383)

I think one of those happened because I put the wrong password in for
the SqueezeNetwork, but nothing has happened since the "Sync Up" error.

Any idea of what is going on? Any suggestions for removing the old
folder?

Nice update!... I'm running it on SC 7.4 26558 the last built with
native MySQL. One thing I noticed is that if one clears the playlist
using Web UI the SB3 Now Playing Screen switches from "Nothing" to "The
Name of the last track that was due to play next".

In a future release could it be possible to set the Mix by Genre via
the SB3 menu and also to have the ability to select multiple Genres
simultaneously?

Thanks again for the update.

I have successfully run this version on the latest 7.4/trunk code from SVN,
which doesn't currently include the SQLite DB changes.

I haven't tried SugarCube directly - instead I use DynamicPlaylist to run a
SugarCube mix, and that still runs fine.

>Per player opt in and opt out
Not sure where this is configured - turned on/of. Can't see anything in WebUI
default skin.

>Mix by Genre which overrides Filters
>
Not sure what the "Active Genres" selection is for. It takes genres from
MusicIP, so it's not likely to work too well, in that I have multiple genre
tags for many songs, which MusicIP doesn't support; so a song with GENRE=Rock
and GENRE=Live is seen in MusicIP and hence in the list as a single genre
called "Rock;Live". If I pick Active Genre = Rock, I guess it would ignore
songs that have Rock genre, but also other genres?

SugarCube now working!

I had been trying to use 1.9beta only via the WEB UI. Found a new

works.

Have got it working through Dynamic Playlists which I haven't used
before. Are there any advantages to doing it this way?

Tell Spotify to release usable API.
What they released is not an API but a library limited to a single
architecture.

BTW, what do you want to switch to, there are no devices yet that
support it.

Ease of use, mainly.

You don't have to worry about turning SugarCube on or off - it will
automatically turn it on when the Dynamic Playlist is started, and will turn
off when the Dynamic Playlist is stopped.
Dynamic Playlist will show the last n songs played.

SugarCube can be used as an alarm clock - choose Dynamic Playlist > SugarCube,
and it will pick a random song as a seed. Actually, that reminds me - I think
it was meant to use the current track as a seed, otherwise a random track if
the playlist is empty, however, I think it always picks a random starting song.

Have you even looked at the API specs?

As others have said, the current API supports only x86 Linux systems
and premium users. So if you have a free (advert supported) account and
are running any other OS, the current API wouldn't work for you even if
a plugin was available. Let alone trying to get it to work on
Squeezenetwork.

Spotify need to release a more usable, generic API to get the kind of
device support you are looking for (and to be fair to them, they have
said they are working on this).

By the way, maybe it's not new, but I've just noticed that I'm getting
thumbnail images with (some?) streams. Composer of the week listen
again has a nice composer related thumbnail.

New or not - thanks for a wonderful add-on.

And one small wish for the future.

I "pause by hand" - I remember my position - stop the (listen again)
stream, and then when I start it again skip to about my old position -
maybe a tiny bit before. Any hope of that being done automagically in
the future?
