Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC, iPlayer & Listen Again...

2009-09-16 Thread Adlopa

Well, there appears to be something funky going on with either
SqueezeCenter or the iPlayer plugin. There are five valid static daily
feeds under Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC Local Radio > BBC London > Danny
Baker > Mon/Tue/etc, just like with the old AlienBBC set-up and these
work as expected when manually selected. However, they don't work as
Favourites — each Favourite is blank once each new programme is made
available.

It seems that the Favourite gets broken when a new programme is
assigned to each day's programme under Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC Local
Radio > BBC London > Danny Baker > Mon/Tue/etc. So, if I favourite the
Monday programme today, it'll work until next Monday afternoon, when the
new Monday programme supersedes it.

Is this a SqueezeCenter issue, or a problem with the iPlayer plugin?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC, iPlayer & Listen Again...

2009-09-16 Thread bpa

This is a BBC problem and I don't think the plugin can't fix it easily.

Favorites can be made for a "brand" which is a BBC term for a Titled
program such as "Danny Baker" or "Composer of the Week". Within that
brand there will be episodes - each uniquely identified. So if you make
a Favorite from an episode - the favorite will have the unique
identified which is used to play the program but the identifier becomes
invalid once the programs has been removed from iPlayer (typically after
7 days).

IIRC Episodes in a brand are not identified as say "monday's programme"
- just program title and date of broadcast. So to provide such a
Favorite would require additional special plugin code to try to identify
what sort of "favorite" the user is expecting and then determine which
episode within a brand matches those expectations.

Yes. But Palm didn't start selling the DEVICE over here and even though
they are said to have a GSM/3G version I believe it's not being sold,
yet :-)

Hm, but this *is* how some programmes are identified under the iPlayer
plugin, which is why I'm a little puzzled (disclaimer: I know nothing
about how iPlayer works).

So, this would make sense if the plugin listed, for example, Danny
Baker 14/09/09, but it doesn't — it just lists Monday, Tues, etc under
"Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC Local Radio > BBC London > Danny Baker"
(for the purposes of my example).

When these direct links are used, they *always* link to the most recent
show for that day — 'Tuesday" is yesterday, 'Wednesday' is last week.
This is great and just what I need.

The problem (for me) is that I want to use these shows as alarms and
for that I need to save them Favourites. This is the problem — while
those direct links always seem to be updated with new shows, the updates
aren't rolled through to the Favourites, which breaks the alarms.

Below is the selected info the BBC provides for Danny Baker programs -
there are program identifiers which give info on the URl to use to play
a specific program. There are also program title which can be different
or the same and have no defined format - they cannot be used reliably to
decide which program to play.

The .par is just a package really, you can extract it with WinRAR.
Then you get the standard plugin.pm file which you can install in the
normal way, ie. drop it into the plugin directory (with most of the
other files). However you need to get the directory structure correct
and maybe amend some of the includes in the pm file.

Its a lot of trial and error but can be done. I did this with the
SuperDateTime plugin and it took a few hours to get it right, make small
changes, save and run SC in debug mode.. repeat until you give up or you
achieve your aim! :)

Good Luck

[SlimDevices: Plugins] internet radio problems with softsqueeze

Hello,

Since 2 weeks i have a problem with my music system.
My softsqueeze player on my server doesn't play internetradio anymore.
I found out that it still plays some radio channels (but not the ones i

I can't think of anything that i have changed in the setup, and the
duet in my livingroom play all radiostations normal.

Is there anybody who can tell me how to solve this??
I would really appreciate to be able to listen to the radio again while
i am having my breakfast :D

Hi, I don't own an IPhone or Squeezebox unit. However, I am thinking

Can I use the IPhone to access internet radio stations without having

Are you saying that I can access internet radio stations using the

Would I need to be connected to a 3G, WIFI, or Edge Network to listen
to the stations?

Thanks for clarifying my questions.

Peter,

When my Boom alarm went off this morning (running KP 2.2.2 and SC 7.4
build 28532), I couldn't turn it off with the power button. The button
was non-functional. I did a reset on the Boom and restarted SC to get
back to a normal state. Then, I downgraded to KP 2.2.0 (kept 7.4 build

expected.

Thanks,

Thanks for the idea, some teasers on the Controller is attached. I
think this made the Controller layout a lot better.

Unfortunately I haven't found any good service to get when dawn and
dusk should appear on different times of the year in various parts of
the world, so currently it works as follows:
- Between 04:00 -> 13:00 : Dawn
- Between 13:00 -> 21:00 : Dusk
- Between 21:00 -> 04:00 : Moon

Are these times good or should I adjust them some way ?

I think it would be possible to let the user specify latitude and
longitude and based on that calculate the correct dawn/dusk times but
I'm not sure if it would make the configuration too complex and the
current solution might be good enough. Any ideas are welcome to improve
this though.

The text items are configurable, so you can select what to show in them
and if you like to show them all or just the clock.

The background can be configured so you can choose any of the
perspectives available from www.die.net

I think I'll also make it possible to let the bottom line show
information about what's currently playing.

I haven't got approval get to use the pictures yet, so I'd like to wait
a bit more before actually releasing something. If I don't get any
answer, I'll release something anyway since it's specified that you are
allowed to use the images as long as you provide the link back to
http://www.die.net/earth
