Don't worry it isn't urgent on my part, I just reported it so you have
the information if you like to correct it when you get the time.

Point 5 in my initial list is a lot worse because it results in that
images isn't even shown on the Squeezebox Touch/Radio/Controller. It's
still not urgent for me though, so take your time.

Can't help you with that then - looks like the BBC servers are refusing
to talk to you. Its possible they think you are outside the uk...

Can you ping the same address without the -acl bit? I think that is
the server for the non uk streams.

Can you play the mms stream in a pc based player?
mms://wm-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_monday_1300.wma

It looks like this does not connect to the server.

The iplayer plugin will also use connections from the player. You
could try setting proxied playback for the player to proxy the
connection from your server, but it seems you can't get a response from
the bbc server.

Doesn't look like they will have full-scale background apps, looks more
like you can have a playback driver in the background. Which is good
enough, IMHO, maybe iPeng just needs to get better in returning where
you left it - which, admittedly, is hard enough...

That will do it. They are lines 956-965 of SqueezeIRApplet.lua and are
part of the init() function. It's about 3/4 of the way into the file.

Now that 7.5 is an "official" release I guess I'll have to do something
about supporting it. I do wish Logitech would make their mind up and
stop mucking about with the lua object model!

as far as I can tell there are two options:
1) hard-code the path. This is the easy option. It hasn't changed sinse
at least 7.3 (when I came to Squeezestuff) so will be backwards
compatible but will require a re-think if a future release moves the
applets.
2) Expand the if...else...end block to include a new section for 7.5.
This would require me finding out where they've moved findFile() to
which is easier said than done!

Option 2 could also require re-coding if a future version made another
change and is harder than option 1 so I think hard-coding the path is
the way forward. The downside is that option 2 worked on desktop
squeezeplay which is what I used for development testing whereas option
1 won't (but that's my problem).
Watch this space...

Has anyone noticed any other anomolies with SqueezeIR on 7.5?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] BBCRadio - BBC Listen Again on Radio/Touch with MySqueezebox.com

2010-04-08 Thread Adam_F

Thanks for a great add-on - it will get a lot of use here.

One oddity - after installation, none of the listen again content would
play. Any attempt would fail with a 'Connection reset by local host'
message on the screen. I got the same result with both V0.6 and 0.7. A
successful work-around for me was to uncheck the 'WMA Streams' option -
the AAC streams seem to play fine.

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Adam.

In the file SqueezeIRApplet.lua I changed the line:

mstrPath = "applets/" .. APPLET_NAME .. "/" .. APPLET_NAME ..
"Applet.lua"

to:

mstrPath = "/usr/share/jive/applets/" .. APPLET_NAME .. "/" ..
APPLET_NAME .. "Applet.lua"

and commented the following lines:

-- absolute path to this file.
-- if System == nil then
-- v7.3
-- mstrPath = Framework:findFile(mstrPath)
-- else
-- v7.4
-- mstrPath = System:findFile(mstrPath)
-- end

At least it worked for my use of the applet - don't know if other parts
are broken after the 7.5 upgrade...

On my Mac the plugins are in:

username/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

so that's the place to find, unpack, and edit the install.xml file
revealed by that process.

When I've done this sort of thing, I've never bothered to pack the

I've not got access to a touch, so havent been able to try anything

For Touch users I'm guessing the problem is going to be actually accessing the

Hmmm, I'm confused about making this edit. When I look for XM Radio
PLUGIN so I can then find the install.xml, I'm looking in the same
place where all my other plugins are located:

C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\Slim\Plugin

But within this directory, I can't find XMRadio Plugin. Consequently, I
can't find the install.xml. What am I missing. And by the way, XM Radio
is working on my SbS just fine (7.4.2). So the plugin is there
(somewhere???).

Switching to 7.5. r.30464 and sync is consistently out (streams are

I'd strongly recommend one with a bit of memory, at least 512MB. I
think there are people successfully using Custom Browse/Custom Scan on
sheevaplug, I'm not how they perform though. My guess is that they will
work good as long as you don't have a huge library, but it's just a
guess.

Rik;531527 Wrote:

It would probably work and switching libraries should be pretty simple,
just select "My Music/Switch Library". However, remember that on the
Touch you won't be able to run any third party plugins, so if you care
about ratings or similar things that would only be available when
connected to the "cheap" server.

My recommendation would be to skip the SBS on the Touch and use
MySB.com or the "cheap" server. Things like internet radio can use
MySB.com and when you want to listen to your own music you would use
the "cheap" server. This has several advantages, like:
- Switching will be seamless since the Touch handles switches between
MySB.com and a standalone SBS automatically.
- You don't have to switch server manually just because you like to
browse your music using custom tags.
- You can move the "cheap" server outside the listening room which
avoids the noise of spinning harddrives.

As long as the "cheap" server is able to hibernate or go into low power
mode when it isn't used, the energy consumption isn't probably that much
different. Remember that the Touch will probably consume less energy if
you don't use its built-in server and from my experience it will also
perform a little bit better (faster user interface) if the built-in
servier is turned off.

IMHO, the built-in server on the Touch is really only useful in two
scenarios:
- For people that don't need third party plugins
- When a friend visits with a USB stick with music

If you don't fall into one of these categories, you are better of not
using it at all in my opinion.
