Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-12-10 Thread Mnyb

IPeng for iPad there is a context meny :

Hold a finger on a playable objekt = song, album, artist and similar .

Then it pops up a meny with "add to end" "play now" and play , this
allows for manupilating the current playlist

Add to end is given , play now actually inserts the chosen thing into
the next place in the list but the rest of the list continues after
that.

In the actual list you can mark songs for deletion, you can hold on
them and move them up and down in the list to reorder them .

And save them .

You can use the playlist manager plugin to add songs to already
existing list, but then it gets harder.
This is a limitation of the server it has no mechanism for editing
playlist outside of the current playlist.

Here I have an enhancement req:

When you are viewing an already saved list it would be cool if iPeng
could delete and reorder songs here too, without me cueing up the list
to a player ?

They will be used in the "Tags" menu which I think is available by
default after scanning with Custom Scan and also if you create a new
menu using the "Dynamic Tags" template. They are not used in any other
menus, so if you don't use the above mentioned menus it doesn't matter
what you write in this configuration field.

You should edit the menus through Squeezebox Server web interface
through "Settings/Advanced/Custom Browse" and either "Manageme menus"
or "Manage header/footer" sections. If I remember correctly, the files
are stored in ISO-8859-1 and this is probably why you get a warning in
TextWrangler because the header of the files currently incorrectly says
"utf-8". So I would advice you to just editing them in the SBS web
interface instead. If you edit them in TextWrangler there is a risk
they will be stored the incorrect way and not treated correctly later
when they are used.

And before you ask, it would be better to store the files in UTF-8,
it's just that I never figured out how to get this to work properly on
both Windows, Linux and Mac with the SBS perl libraries used.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Multi Library] Recommended tagging for classical music

2011-12-10 Thread erland

I'm not the expert regarding classical music here, but the page you
linked to describes how it's possible to set it up using third party
plugins. Unless you already know about it, it might be a good idea to
also see the following page which describes how to do it without third
party plugins:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Beginners_Guide_To_Classical

The basic idea is that:
- Without third party plugins, you need to incorporate the information
you like to show in standard tags, like TITLE, ALBUM, ARTIST
- With third party plugins, you can use custom tags which makes it
possible to let the standard tags keep their original meaning.

If the only thing you want is to display MOVEMENT on the Touch Now
Playing screen, it might be worth to put this information in the TITLE
tag as this is already shown on the Now Playing screen on the Touch,
that way you don't need any third party plugins installed and
configured at all.

However, if you like more flexibility regarding browsing, the third
party plugins work together as follows:
- Custom Scan: Scans/reads custom tags from the music files, this is
typically used to scan WORK and sometimes MOVEMENT tags as these are
not scanned by standard Squeezebox Server scanner.
- Custom Browse: Makes it possible to browse your library by custom
tags, it requires the custom tags to be scanned by Custom Scan plugin.
- Multi Library: Makes it possible to divide your library into
classical music and other music to browse them separately. It requires
Custom Browse to accomplish this.

However, if you really want custom tags to also be displayed on the Now
Playing screen on the Touch, you will also need:
- Custom Clock Helper: Which makes it possible to forward custom tag
based title formats to the Touch.
- Custom Clock applet (installed on Tocuh itself): Which makes it
possible to define a custom Now Playing screen that contains custom
tags provided by Custom Clock Helper.

On older players (Boom, Classic, Transporter), you need Music
Information Screen plugin to customized the Now Playing screen.

Finally, the link you mention talk about the "Now Playing menu", this
is mostly applicable on old players (Boom, Classic, Transporter). It's
possible to design a similar menu on Touch/Radio/Controller using
Custom Browse and the "Browse by selected" item which can be selected
when clicking +/More button or hold-touching an item on the touch
screen, but that's not described in the tutorial you link to. If this
is something you like to do, let me know and I'll go into more details
about how to do this.

2011-12-10 Thread nicoff

I have owned th iPeng for iPhone application for over a year. I am now
considering the iPad version that would allow me to use it more often.
My main goal is to be able to create playlists easily. I have created
playlists with the iPhone version, but I have to say that it is not as
intuitive as i would like. I am wondering if the iPad version would
allow me to create playlists in a more intuitive way, like say iTunes.
I just saw that there is a new version for the iPad but there are no
reviews that address this question.
Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks!

I've just tested on Windows. The spaces were the cause but on Windows
if the "run-time" option and vlc://quit is used the output file has
length zero and won't play. So use the following command and then use
taskkill as before on vlc.exe

Code:

  vlc -I dummy --quiet http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Playlists Not Showing On Duet From NAS

2011-12-10 Thread stevemcintosh

I'm completely stumped and haven't found any intel searching this forum.
Any ideas would be mech appreciated.

Have a Squeezebox connected to my music library on a WD MyBookLive NAS
drive, which is also running SqueezeBox Server so I can use the system
without any computers being on the network. I used this workaround to
get it to work: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735

Everything (Library, Pandora, internet stations) is working
beautifully, except for playlists. None show up on my Duet remote or
on the SqueezeBox server interface.

iTunes is setup to use the iTunes media folder loation as Z:\Shared
Music\iTunes\iTunes Media (which is the NAS) and I have verified that
my playlists are in the iTunes Music Library.xml file in the Z:\Shared
Music\iTunes\ directory. iTunes is also set to Keep iTunes Media
Folder Organized.

Under Settings on the server (http://mybooklive:9000/), the Music
Folder is
/DataVolume/shares/Public/Shared Music and the playlists folder is
/DataVolume/shares/Public/Shared Music/iTunes (same as the iTunes
setting).

I have tried the steps recommended on page 30 of the user manual
(http://www.hometech.com/pdf/lt-squeeduet_1.pdf) to no avail.

Thanks

[SlimDevices: Plugins] [Multi Library] Recommended tagging for classical music

2011-12-10 Thread Towle

According to the table shown here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_browse_menu_for_classical_music#Tagging
my music files must contain the tags ARTIST, ARTISTSORT, COMPOSER,
CONDUCTOR, BAND and GENRE + the three user defined tags to "follow this
example exactly", as stated.

What confuses med is that in the section "Scanning custom tags"
some additional tags is menthioned under "Names to show for user",
namely ALBUM, ALBUMARTIST, TRACKARTIST and YEAR. Since I'm a beginner
and not very bright, I just want to make sure that I understand it
right: These tags must also be entered in the files?

But ... and there is a "big but" ;-) ... Which information am I
surposed to enter in ALBUMARTIST and TRACKARTIST?

FYI: I have a huge collection of classical music. I have no need for
(and interest in) make MOVEMENT searchable/selectable in a detailed
sub-menu. The only situation I want the information to be shown is in
"Now playing".

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Recording internet radio

2011-12-10 Thread bpa

VLC is user hostile and very very picky with syntax when using the
command line. I suspect a space has crept in somewhere.

Run the command with "-vvv" instead of "-quiet"

Since you are running in a command box - change the width to about 250
wide and 1000 lines long and then run the command and use Select All
and Copy (menu in top left command window frame hand icon) and paste
into a text file, zip and attach to a post.

I tested the command line on Linux - I'll need to boot up Windows to
check that it is OK on Windows.

Thanks for checking!

I knew there was a good reason. Maybe it is possible to after a loss of

This has been fixed in r309, I haven't had a chance to build new linux
binaries yet.

I'm asking since it upgrades the database structures during the first
restart but this only happens once, I would have hoped that any restart
after that would have been faster so if this isn't the case the change
didn't result in the desired effect.

Yes, that is the really annoying issue and I am fully aware that it is
a CustomBrowse issue, not something that can be fixed in iPeng (only
perhaps mitigated by iPeng reconnecting the player after the stall).
Sorry if I was unclear about this.

Umm Is only iPENG stalling (_that_ should be fixed) or is it the
_server_ stalling, which isn't something iPeng can do anything about.

iPeng should not stall when requesting a menu but there are indeed
CustomBrowse menus (Random Albums, for me, which is unfortunate) that
seem to stall the whole server.

manually reconnect the correct player. I just (mis)understood that you
had fixed the reconnection thing in the new version and therefore asked
here. I am sure there are good reasons for iPeng's memory loss when it
is feeling lonely/serverless.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-12-10 Thread pippin

Puh, it's a bit hard to say what exactly happens when the server stalls
for a longer time, in this case it can depend on how long the outage
was and whether the players are also disconnecting from the server.

I have this issue with the random albums menu which makes the whole
server hang for a minute, disconnecting all players, the outcome here
can be completely random.

The problem is that since iPeng doesn't get _any_ feedback for a minute
or so it invalidates all other states.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezeslave not starting

2011-12-10 Thread Chris45

Hi - today I updated my squeezeslave binaries (from
squeezeslave-1.0-249-lnx26 to squeezeslave-1.1-305). This lead to
squeezeslave not showing up as player when starting it with my
scripts.
The reason is quite simple: the new version does not like the way I was
used to set the server address - fully qualified
"hostname.domainname.tld".

The log shows the error
Error no such host: server.domainº¿
Connection to Squeezebox Server server.domainº¿ failed.

Changing the server address to hostname only works fine as a
workaround.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-12-10 Thread vagskal

I use only one SBS server. Sometimes when I use a CustomBrowse menu the
server stalls for a while and iPeng looses connection. I thought that
the new version should reconnect to the player it was connected to
before the disconnection. But I see the same behaviour as before: iPeng
connects to another player (a player beginning with the letter A) not
one of the players in a player group (with names beginning with letters
that comes later than A in the alphabet) that iPeng was controlling
before the disconnection.

Or did I misunderstand the fix/feature in the new version?

Clear=>Rensa

The following VLC command records the stream in Flac and stops after
about 60 secs (in fact VLC is slow and it stop about 75 secs). IIRC
The file name must have the extension ".flac" not ".flc"

Code:

  vlc -I dummy --quiet http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls
--sout=#transcode{acodec=flac,ab=192,channels=2}:std{access=file, mux=raw,

Try running it in debug mode (from the Start menu) and looking for an

the previous TrackStat version ?

It's normal that it take longer with TrackStat than without because it
does some database refreshes at server startup. How long would you
estimate the startup time to be ? Is it faster the second time you
restart ?
