Yes, that is a bit irritating; it's how DynamicPlaylist works, it clears the
playlist when you play a mix. I attempt to access the current track and add it
to the tracks to be added to the new playlist it generates. I thought this was
the best thing to do; rather than lose the currently playing track.

I had only added Style and Variety prefs because I didn't know how to make
other settings work in Jive. Style and Variety are fixed selection lists,
whereas filters are variable. I've come up with a way of doing it, but it may
be clumsy if you have a lot of filters defined. Have to click on the filter
name, to cycle through all possible filters one by one.

You can? In iPeng, I only see Settings > Dynamic Mix, nothing within Settings
> Advanced.

Can only be configured within MusicIP, but then I think there's a trick
requiring a manual move/copy of a pref file. I can't remember, I'll have to
look it up.

Hm, i can't reproduce this.
I don't get an alphabet bar but instead I get a dot bar that you can
use to slide through the list. It's not alphabetic so you can't select
a start character but it works.

Does the list completely load? These lists can be long, thousands of
items (at least for me) so it can take a while.

What is your server running on? OSX?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2011-12-17 Thread nitpicker

Hi Nasalhair,

I just was also fighting my way through running Logitech Media Server
Version 7.7.1 - r33735 on my MyBook Live 3TB yesterday.

I've come across 2 problems, both can cause what you see in your log:

1) /tmp is too small. This was mentioned before in this thread (reletad
to bug 17471 that is open with the developers). When updating the index,
the LMS seems to make a lot of use of /tmp. The MBL has only 50M. That
will cause the re-indexing to break and leave you with a partial or
empty database. Many thanks to fjunger for pointing me into that
direction!

You could argue that no software should fail in this way just because
it ran out of memory. It should be possible to catch such problems and
come up with a plan B when /tmp space is short... But I also didn't
understand why the makers of the MyBook provided it with only 50M of
tmpfs space. This is what I did:

mount -o remount,size=500M /tmp

That may be a bit too much (it would allow to use all swap for /tmp),
but it solved my issues with re-indexing on the fly - the next index
recreation worked. You can make the change permanent (until the next
Mybook OS upgrade) by editing /etc/fstab.

2) When you have many pictures (album art or other pictures that get
indexed), your artwork.db in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache will grow
rapidly and may eat up all space on your root partition in no time (it
has only 2G). When that happens, you are also stuck and get similar
error messages.

Check / with df - when it is at 100% that is your problem. I did the
following:

/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver stop
cd /var/lib/
mv squeezeboxserver /CacheVolume/
ln -s /CacheVolume/squeezeboxserver/ ./squeezeboxserver
/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver start

For me this helped (but I had to redo some configuration). Good luck
and let us know your results...

I haven't noticed many problems like that myself; can you provide an example
for when it adds extra tracks?

I think mostly, it's likely to be the way that DynamicPlaylist works. I just
return the next track to play, when I handle a request from Dynamic Playlist to
queue another track.

I can probably make this work better - check the position of the currently
playing track, and only queue a new track when it's at the end of the playlist.

In fact, I meant to make this honour the other DynamicPlaylist settings. "Now
Playing will show upcoming songs and recently played songs", rather
than just add a single future track each time a new track is played. So I'll
probably implement that next.

I didn't like that mode of operation much; I was specifically concentrating on
DynamicPlaylist integration, rather than copy SugarCube.
Dynamic Playlist works by automatically turning off when something else is
played. i.e. the user doesn't have to remember to turn it off when queueing up
other music to play. I don't think I can stop that behaviour, if I want to use
Dynamic Playlist to handle the playlist size/history.

Best to use SugarCube if you want to add songs into a mix and evolve from that.

Yes in the playlists that Erland mentions, you should be able to
reproduce the bug.

However I do se the alphabetical silk-band in the right side of the
artists selection as a second input after you have selected the
playlist that Erland mentioned above. But when I do click one of the
letters, I do not get to the letter that I clicked on. So the feature
is not working.

Thanks for clarifying Erland. And no I won't hold you to a certain
release date. I didn't turn sour overnight... Just proving my point.

Best regards - and I hope it will be fixed promptly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sugarcube not honoring minimum ratings

2011-12-17 Thread MeSue

Hi Philip,

Dynamic Mix has been working well. If I am moving around to different
players a lot, it tends to rack up a bunch of extra tracks at the end
of the playlist, but this isn't a bit deal. So far it hasn't let any
1-2 rated tracks slip in.

One thing that would be cool is if it could be enabled all the time,
like Sugarcube is, instead of having to kick it off and then having it
stop when something new is played. With Sugarcube, there was a setting,
"Only Queue a New Track if Playing the last Track on the Playlist" and
with this checked, I could get endless music without having to think
much about it as long as a local file was the last thing in the
playlist.

The issue is that:
- There is a bug in the SQL Playlist and TrackStat provided playlist
templates
- There is a bug in the Dynamic Playlist plugin

The result of these bugs is that the "textkey" attribute isn't sent to
iPeng or any other SqueezePlay protocol based application. The contents
is still sorted by ARTISTSORT tag, so the "text" attribute strings won't
be strictly alphabetically as some artists probably have a ARTISTSORT
tag that differs from the ARTIST tag, my guess is that this makes iPeng
hide the alphabet bar.

You will reach these kind of menus by selecting for example:
- Dynamic Playlists/Random/For selected/Random songs by artist
- Dynamic Playlists/Random/For selected/Top rated songs by artist

With SQL Playlist you can also create your own menus with the same
functionality. I'm not sure if excalibur have defined custom playlists
with SQL Playlist or if the issue is with one of the above, but either
way it will be fixed in next versions of my plugins as I will correct
both the templates and the Dynamic Playlist bug. It works with iPeng
after I've corrected it in my own setup so the "textkey" is part of the
message, but I need to make sure I've covered all cases and test it a
bit before releasing it to the public.

I suspect that the menu has a "textkey" index but that this is sorted

show an numeric index or it should work because absent a textkey iPeng
only shows an alphabet bar if the list is strictly sorted, or at least

Ok, it's the first time I've heard about it, if you have mentioned it
previously and I've forgot it I do apologize.

It will be fixed in next version, that usually means days or weeks, not
months or years as it would be with Apple, Logitech or any other major
company of your choice. I'm not going to give you an exact release

of bugs corrected by Apple, Logitech or any other big company.

this has nothing to do with the naming of my playlists. Instead what I
mean is that when I pick a Dyn. Playlist (made in SQL playlist) from
Erland, I have selected to make a user-selection of artist in this
playlist. This playlist is called 'Top rated songs from artist - 4+'.
So when I have selected this dynamic playlist, I am presented a list of
artists...

This selection is problematic as my Artists list is enormeous, hence
the artists lists provide me a 'silkband' in the right side of the
list, so I can jump to a particular artist starting-letter directly.
That jump does not work as advertised, and the way it does in the
normal artists-lists.

Thanks

Erland, this is exactly what I was referring to in my earlier post.

Think your license policy over - for a brighter tomorrow with more fun

Hi Erland,

I have now voted for both bugs, trying to compell Logitech to include
what really should be an integral part of Squeezebox from
out-of-the-box.

Thanks for the links.

To Pippin (Penguinlovesmusic - developer of iPeng-app for Apple mobile
products)

On another note; I use iPeng and haven't had any luck integrating the
Dynamic Playlists that ask for user-input (in iPeng). In other words,
it will integrate with the controller and the web-GUI, but in iPeng on
my iPod or iPhone, I cannot use the alfa-numeric buttons on the right
silk-band in the right side. I CAN however scroll down the list of
artists, but the list is too long and cumbersome, so I need to be able
to jump to the letter directly. But this functionality does not work in
iPeng. I really would like it to.

Can you have a look into this?

Thanks and best regards
