You need the perl Net::SDP Modul. No idea how to install on Mac OS X.
How did you install the other modules?

I typed sudo perl install Net::SDP .

This is consistently the broken piece of the puzzle. Calling all mac
experts... how do I do this correctly/troubleshoot it.

If I get this module installed correctly, I think all will be well.

Wouldn't Slim::Utils::Misc::findbin() do the job for you?

Looks interesting any documentation on that one available?

No. You can assume that there's basically no formal documentation for
LMS source code...

Just call findbin with the name of your binary file:

Slim::Utils::Misc::findbin('socketwrapper')

LMS would search the Bin and plugin sub-folders for binaries, applying
some guessing about the architecture used etc. See
Slim::Utils::OS::initSearchPath.

2015-05-25 Thread kolossos4730

Philippe,

Thanks for your continued support of this plugin. Haven't had much time
last week, but today I did some more testing. Latest rc2 version is
pretty stable. Had one crash today (no logging i'm afraid) but this
happened while ferociously clicking the next track button.

I have a question regarding the Uncompressed format option. If I only
put in raw as parameter, hit apply and refresh the web page, the textbox
is empty. No sign of raw in the XML file either. Is this by design?

I discovered a LMS bug? while testing the 16bit convert option. I use a
few test albums which are stored on my D: drive. They are not part of
the LMS music library and I access them with the Music->Disk and folders
option (on a default LMS 7.9 installation this option is turned off I
believe, see Settings->Player->Advanced Browse Modes). Any 24bit file
with a sample rate of 48kHz or higher plays way too slow. The speed
decrease is inversely proportional to the sample rate. E.g. a 192kHz
file plays more slowly than a 48kHz file (192kHz plays like someone
turning a vinyl record at 2rpm). Strange thing is that if the same
albums _*are*_ part of the LMS library everything plays fine.

I have attached two log files. The
upnpbridge_0.2.3.0-rc2_24b_192khz_wav_too_slow.log if from an album not
part of the LMS library and the
upnpbridge_0.2.3.0-rc2_24b_96khz_mp3_ok.log is from an album which is
part of the LMS library and gets recoded to mp3.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Airplay on squeezebox (for Windows)

2015-05-25 Thread Wigster

Hi Schmurtz,

So I've installed your new version and have managed to get it to work.
Here are a couple of issues that I had to get right in order to do that,
for your and others' reference.

I'm running Windows Server 2012R2, so not sure all of this applies to
other versions of Windows

* You need to set up a Inbound/Outbound traffic rule for S4W in the
Firewall. Strangely, the firewall allows traffic out according to its
rule only if the executable sits in Program Files rather than in some
random directory.
* If you launch S4W using a shortcut, you have to make sure that the
"Start In" directory is set to the directory of S4W otherwise it will
not be able to find the .bat files and will fail to control LMS.

I have also set up S4W to run as a service using srvany.exe, so that it
runs without a user logging onto the server, but just straight from
being booted:
(see e.g.
http://jack.ukleja.com/utorrent-service-windows-home-server-2011/ for an
example of how to do this).

Indeed this works. First thing to do is to make the Windows Audio
service start automatically, which it does not by default. Then I had to
get S4W to start Delayed rather than just Automatically, so that the
Audio service is definitely loaded before S4W loads. The key thing here
is that the srvany also must start the S4W service in its own directory.
This is done by supplying a new parameter in the Parameters key in the
registry: you need to add a string AppDirectory with the path to the
executable, right under the Application entry.

With these tweaks, the AirTunes stream starts in about 2 seconds on my
server, although then buffers about 20 or so, so any further changes are
much slower (is there some way to tweak down the buffer? I presume this
is LMS/Wave Input).

Thanks a lot. This is going to make me v. happy.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CDplayer plugin

2015-05-25 Thread epoch1970

So I have a bland USB DVD player hanging off a Geode LX 800 machine with
LMS installed and CD player works fine. However, the server will
(should) be installed in a quiet place and not near the living area; it
is wired to the network it this has to stay that way.

So I am looking and this Samsung SE208BW network cd/dvd player, reviews
are not too good and it can be found at bargain prices. Looking around I
found this thing is in fact an iSCSI target, and 'is hackable.'

I don't think I care for hacking it, but having no practical experience
with iSCSI, I would like to know if CDplayer plugin would see this iSCSI
target as a plain local CD player?
If so, the CD player could reside within the living area, connected over
wifi, and the server could quietly stay in the attic...

LMS 7.8.0 is the latest genuine release. Anything later is a nightly,
which many people (including myself) don't like running. Partly because
it's hard for somone else to install exactly the same thing for testing,
because nightlies are always changing.

Also as a Windows user (WHS v1) there doesn't seem to be much benefit in
running 7.9. It seems to me that 7.9 is popular with those that run Unix
servers, because 7.9 is the first 64 bit release on Unix.

I don't know how many people use aiff. If it isn't common then I think
you should go ahead with this version anyway, with warnings for those
using 7.8 or lower.

As to which version of LMS people use, I think the plugin needs to be
compatible with, say, 7.7 (with exceptions noted). Many (if not most)
people value stability above most other things in servers. I'm a
tinkerer, and on linux, so have gone with periodic 7.9 updates. That
may be true of many linux and some other users on this forum, but is
probably not true of those who rarely venture here.

On other threads I have seen postings recently of people running all
sorts of LMS versions as far back as 7.4 for a variety of reasons. The
7.4 user was really firm in their desire to never upgrade, since what
they have is working and they'd had a bad experience with 7.5 (agreed
there, it was rather flaky).

I'm not saying you should consider all versions of LMS as far back as
7.4 or earlier, far from it. But just be aware there are people out
there running all sorts of LMS versions. As PasTim says, 7.7 is probably
a good place to stop going backwards in versions. Partly because 7.7 is
what mysqueezebox.com is currently running and the auto updates will
have left many people's LMS running 7.7 (I had to manually update to
7.8.0, it had something I wanted in that the cache databases don't grow
forever).

I have just 'raw' in the uncompressed format for one of my players, and
it works for me. The codecs for that player are pcm,flc,mp3. What
codecs have you included? It could be that if you have neither pcm or

I wonder whether LMS doesn't determine the sample rate in the same way
for music outside of the library as for that inside, and then doesn't
pass the correct info to the plugin.

I note you encoded to mp3, which is a really rather different type of
beast. Can you do the same test encoding to flac (or pcm).

2015-05-25 Thread epoch1970

Thanks bpa,

I've browsed a bit more and it looks like the tgt package should be my
best friend to make a "regular" blockdevice appear on the server.
I think I'll grab one unit and try to make it work. If I can't, worst
case I'll use it as an USB drive; the Apple guys have lost the tool
needed to make a slot in the mac mini anyway...

I'll post something if I can manage a setup with this device. (I'm more
and more wary of linux; Jessie ships with a broken automounter, and
no-freaking-body cares...)

I believe a "loopback" plugin is a very nice idea. With people cramming
Pi's everywhere they can and digitizing old stuff, I see some potential.
The only limitation I see to it is that people now are using more
software players than hardware ones and sync is not as good as before.
(Oh well maybe some "hard" realtime software stack will emerge someday.)

These are my 'normal settings' (ignore the raw uncompressed format
setting; screen capture taken just before hitting apply).

As you can see pcm is specified as a codec.

If I specify the uncompressed format as 'wav, raw' then the settings are
saved as wav,raw and if I revisit
the plugin setting after closing the web page first, these settings are
retained.

If I only specify raw as uncompressed format and immediately view the

Clearly, LMS tells me that the 192 kHz file is 44.1. So then I pass this
information to the player and it does does work well, obviously ...

Yes, there is something wrong, but it is in the application,w hen it
reloads and stores the config file. It only happens on the 'device'

Playing files outside of the library is new to LMS 7.9 and could still
have some bugs (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2333). When
I stream to my Raspberry Pi's (which all have a 24bit/192kHz capable I2S
DAC attached) this works as expected regarding bitrate/samplerate. The
Roku SoundBridge, on the other hand, is limited to 16bit/48kHz. Maybe
this triggers this bug.

Transcoding to mp3 on the SoundBridge happens automatically if the
source is 24bit or has a samplerate > 48kHz (I do not have bitrate
limiting enabled on the SoundBridge). Testing high-res FLAC/PCM without
transcoding is not possible on the Roku :(

C'mon - It's your problem you have do the work to help solve it.

The first file does not exist and I don't know what if anything is wrong
with the second as I don't understand it and don't know whether it is OK
or not.

oh no, I know: this is because the value you apply is identical to the
"default" format so the parameter is removed in that device section.

In Roku SB1 emulation mode only audio tracks in the library are
transcoded to mp3. Playing the same files using the Disks and folders
option does result in silence as no transcoding is done. Looks like a
limitation of the Disks and folders option.

In UPnP mode, your plugin does make transcribing of fast guitar solos
easier for high res material :D

All I can see from your log playing outside the library is that it is
trying to play wav (from pcm):

Code:

  codec:p, ch:2, s:24, r:44100

  and:

  http://192.168.0.220:49157/LMS2UPNP/00-0d-4b-04-69-fe-idx-1.wav

So LMS looks as if it is saying it's 44100, and because the plugin is
assisting by cutting 24 bit back to 16 bit, sq2u and LMS agree no
transcoding is required.

However, that doesn't explain why the Pi DACs work, unless LMS is
transcoding 192000 to 44100 for some reason. I'm a bit unconvinced by
this. Could sq2u be assuming that 16 bit can't be 192000, and reporting
accordingly.

What does the log for the PIs say when playing a 24/192 track from

Agreed and I will have to change that as the consequence is that if you
change a value of default parameter, then for all devices with matching
value, the key will be removed in the xml. But if you change back the
default value to something else, the device value will follow the
changed default, which is not the desired behavior

It looks like communication broke down between your system which is
running ffmpeg and the station. I can't offer any help fixing that
problem as it looks like it is a network issue either your local LAN,
your ISP or the station.

I see the same thing. Once the screen saver kicks-in, it takes one click
to regain "focus" to menus, the second to actual turn-off.

I have never really looked at LMS log files and the options to choose
from are a bit overwhelming. If I set LMS logging to Transcoder, I can
see in the log file that there is some kind of handshake between LMS and
squeezelite running on the Pi and they agree to play these 24bit 192kHz

24/196 FLAC files):

Yes, it behaves the same for me. It's slightly annoying, but it is
consistent with other screensavers, and it is potentially less confusing
than buttons having a different effect exiting the screensaver depending
on what screen was active beforehand.

I too find the LMS (and sq2u) logs daunting, and I should also have
realised you were using squeezelite on your Pis, not sq2u. The test you
propose should settle the question.

 If I put 'raw' as default and put a space in the textbox
after 'raw' ('raw ') for the device then both settings are saved in the
xlm file but in the xml file there is no space in the device parameter
after 'raw'. The web interface still show a space after 'raw' (could be
a browser session dependent thing). Have not checked what happens if I

I can't be sure what happened previously (whether I had a space in the

file, and it's been like that for many reboots.

Yes, this is because this is very basic checking / comparison of
parameters and strings for checking a different comapred to default.
Hence you can fool it by adding space. When I'm evaluating the value of
a parameter, all I'm looking at is the minimum keyword (eg 'wav') for
each item between ',' whether they have space or not does not matter.

Depends of the settings of your squeezelite. I might very well be set
for no pcm, in which case LMS is force to transcode and then problem
does not happen. But in the case of sq2u, LMS sends raw data and tells
it that it is 44.1. So that's what I forward to the player.
Unfortunately, when using raw data, samples are samples so wheter they
have to play at any sample rate cannot be detected by looking at the
sample themselves (okay, you can do a FFT and you'll see that something
is wronng, but I'm not there yet ;))

I'm not sure as to what (internal) settings squeezelte uses on the Pi. I
use PicorePlayer on my Pi's which has a nice web interface. This allow
me to select the used DAC from a dropdown list. No manual file
format/sample rate/bit rate settings involved. The LMS web interface
shows that no transcoding is done. I presume the unaltered FLAC is
streamed to the Pi and squeezelite handles the decoding on the fly. Of
course squeezelite needs to be aware of the DAC's capabilities (I think
this is handled by querying ALSA).

Yes - I had to take a very deep look into squeezelite as my LMS
'emulated' device is a squeezelite device, but heavily modified to do
that bridge thing. I don't have my piCore player at reach currently and
I don't know if it limits the codecs accepted by squeezelite by default
(which includes pcm), thus forcing transcoding in LMS. In any case, if
flac is being sent to squeezelite, then the sampling rate problem
diseappears as LMS does trasncoding properly. The issue seems to occur
when LMS does not do transcoding, then it indicates a wrong sample rate.
I think, if given pcm at the pretended rate of 44.1 but in reality at
192, squeezlite is fooled like any other.

Agreed, and when (if) this thing settle down, I'll reorganize them
properly so that the INFO level is not too detailed, but still gives
good hints of what's happening. Currently, it is 1/ a bit ad-hoc and 2/
trying to maximize my chance to understand what's going on with default
log level. I realize that when you are not fully 'in' the internal
logic of that bridge thing, it is very confusing.

I believe it is installed correctly, yet shairtunes2 can't find it.
Incidentally, Shairtunes (the original) seemed to have the same issue.
Is it the wrong install? Installed in the wrong place? Broken?

Thanks in advance,

Philippe, sq2u and the plugin are wonderful, as I hope you know. Just

All those in favour please respond 'Aye', or 'Oui' if you prefer!

Thank you guys, I do really appreciate :o !

The difficulty with me is I'm a bit of a perfectionnist and everytime
there is something wrong, I want to fix it ... a reasonnable person
would have given up at this aiff thing, but once I started, despite the
7.7/7.8 and 7.9 difference combine with native vs transcoded format, I
still wanted to fix it ;)
