OK haven't used the plugin for some time. Tonight installed the latest version and figured out the API key stuff. I now get the search boxes when I run the plugin. If a packet is slow then you get rebuffering because data has arrived in sequeence just not received in time. However if packet does nto arrive at all - then stream stops. Besides cache, 1.4.8 had a start delay which some user didn't like. > The plugin works fine for me at the moment with HLS set as the first > file type, but I am happy to switch over to DASH at any point if you > want anything tested. I only do simple maintenance but I can't do anything more as I don't have any other Apple HLS player (e.g. iphone). HLS has a similar rebuffering issues which I think has the same underlying cause as the DASH rebuffering so again the two protocols progress together. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

My test with DASH reference player compared to BBCiPlayer was interesting. Both stream played OK no errors all day long from about 9:30am until 4.00pm then the BBCiplayer stream started getting errors and long packet delays while there was only one small hiccough on the DASH reference player. Since 4:00pm there have been more and more bursts of errors on BBCiPlayer. So time of day is one part fo the issue whether it is a BBC, CDN or my ISP - I can't tell. Also there is probably some issue with LMS and how it process http GETs (probably DNS part) that is different to the Chrome and this needs to be checked. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version
Ok so I'm back :D I've been testing both my duet and boom with the only 320 kbps aac stream I can find (Radio Paradise http://37.130.228.60:8014) Both work fine, no re-buffering or pauses. It is trans-coded by the server (320kbps CBR (Converted to 705kbps FLAC)) If i switch to a BBC DASH stream, the pauses and re-buffering are back, also trans-coded to FLAC. This is NOT the case on my SB Touch or Radio players. This made me take a look at the performance of my server during trans-coding. The re-buffering appears to appear along with spikes in CPU activity, these spikes are just after the stream re-starts and show as about 25-50% CPU usage. It could be that the spikes are the cause of or a result of the pauses (i'm aware the timing on Windows Resource Monitor won't be accurate enough to say which is the case), i think it more likely that they are as a result of the stream re-starting as LMS seems not to glitch during a 100% CPU spike from other system services. Bare in mind that at least 50% of my library is ALAC and the server trans-codes this flawlessly at higher bitrates and copes with doing this for several players streaming different local content. If I switch back to the Radio Paradise stream I get a perfectly flat constant CPU usage during transcription. If i switch to one of my SB Touch players and a BBC DASH stream the CPU usage is again flat. I don't know if any of this is relevant but taking into account what has been said above it does seem that something either LMS or BBC side is making BBC DASH streams far more un-reliable than other similar bit-rate streams specifically on players running older type firmware (57/77) mrmichaelwright's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

My feeling (and it is only a feeling as I can get evidence) is that the rebuffering problems have a "local" element. The BBC streams are delivered by CDNS (Content Delivery Networks) Akamai, Limelight, Level 3 and ATOS but I have only seen URLs for Akamai and Limelight in the BBCIplayer streams. Although these CDNs have load balancing there seem to be some regional division and also how CDNs are interconnected with ISPs such as PlusNet can affect performance. In addition there seems to be a "maintenance" issues as well - I can play stream for hours with no problems and then burst of problems (i.e. very slow packets) often very late at night or at weekends. I am currently running test to see if there is an implementation issue. On the same server with same network connection, I am running LMS with BBCIPlayer 1.4.8 (with cache bug fixed) and comparing against the DASH reference player (http://dashif.org/reference/players/javascript/v2.3.0/samples/dash-if-reference-player/index.html) in Chrome. Playing same stream (e.g. http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/dash/nonuk/dash_low/ak/bbc_radio_three.mpd ) on BBCiPLayer and a Chrome Browse with DASH player (using developer tools for network packet analysis) allows me to compare packet delays. I can also compare perfromance of CDNs. > I do experience a problem that I've always assumed is just one of those > things, but it seems worth raising it in case it's down to a > misconfiguration or something else fixable. Normal file or live http stream are a single GET and a stream of a largne number bytes (e.g. at least 3 minutes) . When stream as paused LMS get http connection open and temporarily stopped reading. DASH is chunked http with many 6 secs fragments so it is like playing many many small files gapless and when you pause the stream will be HTTP connection is usually closed so LMS support for pause doesn't work. This issue was only been reported to me about 1-2 months ago. I have been looking into it as well as rebuffering and possible setting for CDN preference but making time has been a bit difficult. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I find that enabling powersave solved that problem.. :) drmatt's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59498 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104672 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Fair enough, I may try it out again! I gave it a try a long long time ago and wasn't terribly happy with a couple of aspects of it IIRC, but this is 2016 and it's probably worth revisiting. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version
I'm (fortunately) not seeing the buffering problems (and TheLastman, I'm on PlusNet fibre and it's worked flawlessly for iPlayer and everything else since I got it a few years ago). I do experience a problem that I've always assumed is just one of those things, but it seems worth raising it in case it's down to a misconfiguration or something else fixable. If I pause a listen again stream (definitely on Extra, not sure about iPlayer), it's okay for a few minutes, maybe a few hours and I can un-pause later and continue from where I left off. Several hours later and almost certainly by the next day, if I try to resume a paused programme the playback fails and I have to go back through the menus to start playing again from the beginning, losing my place. Is this normal? I've assumed it's perhaps a token issued by the BBC for my stream that is expiring, but I'm just speculating. Your points about a large plugin and the fact that the unsupported streams that Extra uses make it more delicate are obviously valid and sufficient, but for me with both plugins, I think the menus are more complicated as they are now, especially with some overlap between functionality (schedules, for example). For me, the ideal would be a single iPlayer top level (so I don't have to think ahead of time about which plugin has what I want) followed by a choice of Listen Live, Schedules and Categories (or these could even be 3 top level menus with an iPlayer prefix). What appears would be governed by whether Extra was installed, but the menu tree would be unified. Extra subtrees could be identified with some short text or a logo change. I'm not saying this is definitely a good idea, but it seems more intuitive to me. Can I do any of this by customising menu.opml? I have installed windows 10 on a mac mini (bootcamp partion), and lms server and Local player is working. Problem is that the volume control is not controling the volume of the soundcard, just the "soft" volume of the player, eg. if the soundcard volume is low, i only get low volume from the player even at max volume. Is there a way to get the players volume control to change the output volume from the soundcard ? Best regards, and thanks for any help ! Re Bluetooth, to do a good integration, this would be a lot of work and configuration as you need more than one bridge for more than one BT speaker (range and probably streaming possibility). Then I would have the same problem as above, i.e. I'm not using a lot BT speakers - and my plate is really full currently LMS 7.7.5 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2.
