Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)

2019-02-27 Thread Michael Herger

Usually with Internet Radio you upload your tracks and a playlist or
point the output of your source to a Shoutcast server or similar but RP
seems different. Anyone know more?

RP lossless is not a regular internet radio station. It has features
like skipping tracks, which you couldn't do with the Shoutcast way of
streaming. RP does indeed send out tracks in groups of files. Therefore
you'd see a playtime of 30 minutes or other. When you reach the end of a
group, or hit Next, RP would send another block.

I don't know why they decided to stream in blocks rather than just
single tracks. It certainly makes things much more complicated from my
POV, as I have to update the metadata for a single file in sync with
what is supposed to be streaming. Other than with Shoutcast the metadata
is not part of the stream.

Looks like the hover tips got turned off accidentally when I did all the

I just noticed this earlier too. It's chrome's way of indicating that a

2019-02-27 Thread d6jg

I’m sort of glad there have been problems with this plugin as it made me
look at the plugin which as a U.K. listener I’d never tried before.
I’m loving RP Flac streams. I think I prefer it to 6 Music due to the
very limited talk element. Some of the DJs on 6 think it should be all
about them not the music.
I am however wondering exactly how RP puts together its programming. If
I look at the track duration it usually tells me circa 30 mins but that
30 mins contains 6 or so tracks and perhaps some talky bits. The
metadata also changes a few seconds before the track changes.
None of this is at all an issue it just causes me to wonder how it’s put
together.
Usually with Internet Radio you upload your tracks and a playlist or
point the output of your source to a Shoutcast server or similar but RP
seems different. Anyone know more?

- Starting SLX

There is a help button for tray menu links on that tab. Press the blue

TrayLinks are also available on the main window from the "hamburger"

As for other options, I thought I had pop-up hints that describe them,

Ok, so I discovered that the rights for the audio devices was changed
back during boot. So then it didn't work again. Messy solutions ahead,
so I decided for the least messy one.
Made a script that runs after startup as root, starting the patched
squeezelite directly, bypassing Local Player plugin. Synology has a nice
"Task Scheduler" feature to handle this. Problem solved.

Thanks a lot for your patience and kind assistance to help me out here.
Also big thanks to ralphy, Bosse and marcoc1712, couldn't have done it

Where in the logs should I look to see what's happening behind the

95% of my RP listening is with a touch and receiver sync'ed on a piCore
server. My UI's are primarily the touch, but occasionally a controller
or the SqueezeCntrl app on android. If it happens again, I'll try to pay
more attention/experiment between the three interfaces.

I have a hunch that the back a few songs/restart the song anomaly has
something to do with sync, and especially due to "self resyncing" after
some type of network exception (e.g. "rebufferingwaiting to sync" UI
message). Syncing/Unsyncing with the FLAC streams always seems to
struggle. I also believe that could be related to the fact that when you
first start the stream, it always (as you know) starts from the
beginning of the song, as opposed to other streams that "join in
progress"

In fact, I don't think I have ever seen the "waiting to sync" message
after "rebuffering" until I started listening to the FLAC streams,
perhaps because the recovery happens so quickly with other streams.

Sorry, just sharing some thoughts. In general the FLAC streams perfectly
acceptable for me, because the exceptions are so infrequent. I know it's
allot more problematic for others.

Its also a good time to thank you, and the others for not only FLAC
streaming, but the mix of RP genres. It is wonderful!

Jim

Your CC are probably not discovered, hence a config file is not created.
Maybe you have 2 ethernet cards or maybe your CC are on a part of your
network that filters out multicast packets

It looks like squeezlite running as admin cannot access Alsa "default"

You should check what Alsa devices are available to squeezelite running
as admin (i.,e. repeat marcoc1712 test)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Squeezelite-X

Yes I've just come back to SqlX recently after a period while it was
misbehaving for some reason and now it just seems to be much better and
more reliable, somehow! Sorry I can't identify anything specific.
Being able to switch to the Material skin is great!

One thing though, could some option help descriptions (like for Tray
Menu) be added to the App Settings? Stuff like Media Key Integration,
Show notifications sound as if they could be useful ...

Oh go on then, another thing ;-) , has any consideration been given to
making the tray links available as custom button in an optional toolbar
or similar on the main window? I find it hard to hunt for the
auto-hidden tiny tray icon.

The permission and ownerships for the devices in /dev/snd are setup when
a USB device is inserted and recognised.

This means if during testing you remove USB DAC and plug it in again -
you'll need to change device permissions. Not sure about system
restart/reboot.

A permanent solution would require creating a custom udev rule for your
DAC.
