What ports are used by Spotty?

4070 (AP), 443, 80, 5353/UDP

I think the first three are outgoing only, the last one must not be
shared outside your LAN.

I had had a problem with permissions, so originally there were no logs.
I've now partly rectified that . Based on the backup files generated by
RatingsLight, I can see that LMS knows the ratings for the unmarked
tracks, so this isn't a RatingsLight problem.

Glad it is not just me with the problem. Annoyingly I have a Sonos

empty. What I am doing wrong?

Thank you very much

Hi, and apologies for the delayed reply to your post. I've been looking
into exactly this over the last few weeks. As far I'm aware, my
understanding is as follows. Synology have ended support for LMS in
their package centre, so it's not there any more - but remains working
if you already had it. However, as you mention, a recent Perl update
breaks it anyway unless you were lucky enough to have automatic Perl
updates disabled on your Synology, read the upgrade warning and chose
not to upgrade (which I did).

Additionally, Synology is due to release the DSM7 OS shortly, and there
is speculation it will force users to upgrade Perl, thus breaking the
Package Centre version of LMS even if you still have it installed when
you upgrade from DSM6 OS. I understand Synology typically supports
security patches, etc. for the previous OS for some time (think I read
30 months..?), so one option is to simply keep Package Centre LMS
installed, don't upgrade Perl and don't upgrade to DSM7. Possibly not
the best of long term fixes, as at some point it will be unsupported,
and your Synology may be have more security vulnerabilites - plus as a
Synology owner, you may have a desire to use DSM7's new functionality
anyway!

The workaround if you want to update Perl whilst still using DSM6 and
LMS, is to install the Docker app from Synology's Package Centre, which
enables small, self-contained technical environments (or "Containers")
to run on the Synology, with various apps that can be downloaded and run
from Docker repositories, away from Package Centre (I'm not a massive
techie, so may not have explained that entirely accurately, but that's
my basic understanding). LMS is available within the Docker environment
(versions from 8.0 upwards by the looks of things). I believe not all
Synology Diskstations are able to install Docker from the Package Centre
- not sure which ones and why, but there was a suggestion that "plus"
models (such as my DS218+) are able to, and others perhaps not...
Probably worth simply searching for Docker in Package Centre to confirm
for yourself.

The best instructions I found for installing and configuring Docker and
and LMS Container are in 'this post from earlier on in this very thread'

I followed these instructions, plus did a bit of Googling along the way
to find out a bit more detail, and have got LMS 8.1 successfully
working. I hit a few snags with LMS functionality on the way - such as
some plugins not being available in LMS 8.0 and higher (which there's a
solution for), and not being able to get LMS to login to my
mysqueezebox.com account (which I've yet to find a fix for, and means my
Home > Radio shortcuts/apps are unavailable). The progress of my
post-installation head scratching can be read 'from this post onwards'
for much more info once you get a far as completing LMS Docker container
installation.

For now, having successfully got 8.1 setup, tested and working in
Docker, I've turned it off and have chosen to keep using the 7.9 Package
Centre version and to not upgrade Perl - at least until I have a
solution to get logged back into mysqueezebox on 8.1 and get my Radio
shortcuts back.

As far as I am aware, I've not read anyone confirming if Docker
Container LMS installations continue to work after upgrading to DSM7. In
fact, I've not read confirmation that Docker itself will still work, or
be available in Package Centre from DSM7 onwards. I guess we'll
determine this in due course...!

It's admittedly a fair bit of hassle in order to stay still and keep
using the LMS we all know and love, but Docker seems to be the potential
solution in order to keep running LMS within the your Synology DS. I'd
say it took me about 4-5 hours from start to finish getting it set up,
configured and tested.

Other options for those who can't download Docker seem to be running LMS
on a Raspberry Pi on your home network, with it pointing to the music on
your Synology Drive, and your pl

Just solved this missing OPML Playlist Browser & Editor issue. It's a
tickbox in the 'Advanced > Favorites' settings:

Here's how it was in 7.9:
34941

...and in 8.1:
34942

To be honest, it's not something I recall ever using, so have disabled
it in both instances now - and I still have no idea what it's actually
used for! Thanks for the steer on this.

Now just need to work out how to get my LMS 8.1 in its Synology 218+
Docker container to log into mysqueezebox correctly and I'm all sorted.
Any idea if there's know issues with mysqueezebox login in 8.1 and what
any fix might be - or if there's something else I need to check in my
LMS or Docker setup? See a couple of posts back for the error log.

Thanks!

Andy

If you are using PiCorePlayer, the best option IMO is running the LMS
Server on the Raspberry Pi That's what I do, in spite of having a
Synology NAS. I have used Docker and the previous Synology NAS solution,
but since the Developers of PiCorePlayer use a Raspberry Pi for their
Server, I felt it best to follow in their footsteps. It's really a lot
simpler than running the Server off of the NAS

Sounds interesting, but I fear I'd lose days of my life buying my first
Pi and setting it up to reproduce what my Synology DS already does for
me self-contained in one box.

Once both solutions are configured an running (Docker / Pi), what are
the benefits to running LMS via the Pi as opposed to on the NAS - I've
not really read a clear list of advantages that have sold me on the
idea?

In the solution you describe, are you still pointing your Pi at the
music on your Synology NAS via your router, or using a separate hard
drive plugged into your Pi to behave as the LMS music library on the Pi
itself?

Setting up a Pi for an LMS server will take about 30 minutes, I and can
even give you phone support if you want. -- I used to run my LMS
Server on a Synology NAS, but I feel the Rpi is a bit faster Also,
you wouldn't have the problems that you are now experiencing in this
thread. Also you are dealing with just one Download (PiCorePlayer)
instead of separate Download for the NAS.

And yes, you still point to the Music Library from the Raspberry Pi

Interesting, thanks for the explanation - and the offer of support. I
must admit to being a bit intrigued with the Raspberry Pi - something I
might like to get into as an occasional side interest. For now I'll
stick with the "if it ain't broke" theory and stay with what I know, but
if there are frequent problems resulting from DSM upgrades, Docker, Perl
and the like and I have a spare rainy day in the future, I'll certainly
be back online to investigate further!

Cheers

Andy

I don't know. Entering that artist name would indeed find one single

Docker is available in the latest DSM7 beta version (updated a few days
ago).

When creating the VM, I created a 32GB disk (seen in the screenshot).
The installation created two ext4 partitions? - sda1 (DaphileBoot - 1GB)
and sda2 (DaphileData - 7.6GB). No idea why DaphileData was 7.6GB and
not the balance of the 32GB disk. So if I just expand the disk to 64GB
this would keep DaphileData still at 7.6GB, right?

This is probably a bit off topic, but what's your opinion on DSM v7 vs
DSm vs?

I mean - besides all the promised new features, goodies and extras - do
we really need it?

Sounds an interesting idea. I also like the idea of one of those Pi
touchscreens that can hold the Pi in the back, setup to behave like a
larger Squeezebox Touch... All ideas for those future rainy days...
