Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)
Hi Philippe - i would prefer to stick to "non-destructive testing" ;) Just noting again that Spotty/Spotify do not seem to be working through UPnPBridge and Sonos -this is the case for both Bridge versions .10 and .11. I tried starting a Spotify album a couple of times with Sonos Arc/surrounds as the player and nothing happened, but Spotty/Spotify would play to a "real" squeezebox device, and would also play via the Bridge to a Naim QB2. Spotty version is 4.8.4 and LMS version is 8.3.0. This is of course with default settings in the bridge - is there a settings change that would be likely to make Sonos players work? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)
Here is the 2.1.12.11 log with same mp3 tracks. Seemingly normal volume behaviour this time - i tried increasing and decreasing the volume several times in the first 2 tracks in 5% increments in LMS/Material Skin, and the actual volume was consistent with those control changes. I stopped it in track 3. I had the Sonos app open on another device and it was interesting to note that each time when i would click a 5% up or down change in LMS, the volume slider in the Sonos app would leap to about 75% of full then snap back - ie like the app was still getting an errant volume signal, even though the actual volume was staying normal. +---+ |Filename: upnpbridge log 2.1.12.11 mp3.txt | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39575| +---+ Spacegrass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103728 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi Philippe - i have taken another log, attached. Same mp3 tracks but the volume behaviour seemed normal this time, UNTIL i thought i would try clicking the volume 5% higher in Material skin near the end of track 1 - instead of going from 22 to 27% volume went to infinity - eggnog flying, dogs hitting the ceiling, wife yelling, the whole disaster  After manually turning it back down and restarting my heart, volume behaviour continued normally. I stopped play in track 4. Also note that after the mp3 tracks, i tried playing Spotty/Spotify, which does not seem to be working through UPnPBridge and Sonos. Hi Philippe I attach a log from 2.1.12.6 trial (Win 10 i7 laptop - all UpNP Bridge settings at default other than binary set to static.) Same mp3 tracks as the last few logs - no skips, but some unruly LMS/Sonos volume behaviour in the first track - it started super loud, and the 5% increments in LMS Material skin seemed to change the actual volume about 50%. It seemed like the volume was increasing and decreasing on its own in track 1, though the LMS volume setting stayed the same. Then nearly at the end of track 1, the volume slider changed on its own from 14% to 9% and the volume went to zero - ie at 14% sound was almost painfully loud, and at 9% it was silent. Volume behaviour seemed more normal in tracks 2 and 3 (though still louder than usual for the LMS volume setting) and i stopped it in track 4. This is a hazard at this time of year - unexpectedly loud volume could cause a guy to spill his eggnog ;) +---+ |Filename: upnpbridge log 2.1.12.6 mp3 volume issue.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39543| +---+ Spacegrass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103728 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi Philippe - here is the log from an attempt at playing the same mp3 tracks with 2.1.10 (Win 10 i7 laptop - all UpNP Bridge settings at default other than binary set to static.) This version was not the fix - the tracks would start playing but there was weird distortion in each track partway through, and each track skipped to the next track without playing even half the song. I stopped the madness in track 5 ;) I don't pretend to know what the typical musical content of the universe of UpNPBridge owners is, but if you think mp3 content is not a priority for most people, i would not be offended if you focus your valuable dev efforts on other aspects - the vast majority of my listening is streaming services anyway, with the old mp3 and flac files on my laptop just being an occasional diversion. Good Mornings all - installed 2.1.8 via LMS with no problems on Win 10 i7 laptop, LMS 8.3. I reported yesterday that the installation of the MS C++ redistributable after using 2.1.6 caused my UPnP players to disappear from LMS. They also did not appear this morning after starting up the laptop and installing 2.1.8 - but upon checking the Bridge settings, i noted the Bridge was turned off - (i.e. "Running" box unchecked) That was unusual - it is always running when i open its settings (which i have done a lot lately!) When i turned the Bridge on, the UPnP players reappeared in LMS. After that, i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the MS C++ redistributable app to see if it would make the players disappear again, but my UPnP players continued to show up in LMS. Also, when I stopped the Bridge this morning to clear the log (and after updating to 2.1.4) then restarted, my real Squeezebox players had disappeared from the player list in LMS only my 2 UPnP players were showing. That could be caused by something else, but it did seem like it happened with stopping and restarting the Bridge. We'd need to investogate that wth @mherger but that log really > tells me (and that might very well be a Win10+ issue) that LMS *stalls* > the connection then *closes* it for no reason. Hi Phillipe - to answer your questions: 1) this track skipping only happens on UPnPBridge players, not on "real" Squeezebox devices (i have a Duet and two Radios). The album folder for "Whiteout" is 49.1 MB and track Stereolight is 6.39 MB and track Nursery Rhyme is 6.20 MB. Those are MP3 tracks. Curiously, after i posted my message, I played a flac album and had no skips (it was a different UPnP player - Sonos Arc instead of Naim QB2) I attach that log (8 tracks played normally, and i stopped it in track 9) We had a lengthy exchange about this skipping issue between Sept 17 and 20 2022 in the "Announce: UPnPBridge ..." thread, which would of course have occurred with prior versions of LMS and UPnPBridge - so maybe it is a similar issue? You suggested at that time increasing the buffer size in the bridge config file, which did seem to significantly lessen the skipping. Here is one of your posts from then about possible causes: "No, I really don't think so. The issue you are having might really be due to the antivirus being overly protective of sockets. I've read that some people had similar issue with the same antivirus/security suite. I don't know how you are familiar with that part of technology, but to communicate between the bridge and LMS, a channel must be opened using two sockets (IP address and port). There are many complications with sockets left open by programs on computers and although it should not be the case, there is a risk of exhaustion or security and various solution (not always great) have been developed to deal with these problem. The issue with the bridge is that when it opens a channel with LMS to grab the audio data, the transfer is not smooth due to the nature of a bridge and the numerous buffering involved (in the bridge and in the UPnP player). So typically, the 1st track is very quickly transferred, then the beginning of the second starts quickly as well and then... streaming might pause for a very long time (might even be almost the whole duration of the 1st track). So, for example, some on-line servers can't cope with that and assume the link is broken and systematically close it. What I'm wondering in your case is if a monitoring application of some sort could not force-close such sockets that have a burst of activity then *nothing* for minutes. It's not a good behavior, but... Hi Phillipe - thanks for your continued work on these plug-ins. I got around to trying your new version of UPnP Bridge - version 2.0.7.3 on LMS 8.3.0, on a Win 10 laptop with i7 processor. I thought you might want another test result of the new plug-in, as i once again experienced the track skipping/truncation problem we talked about a few months ago with the old plug-in version. My settings for the new Bridge plug-in were completely default, with binary set to "static". The log begins with trying Radio Paradise then another internet radio station briefly (no problems), then an MP3 album. First 2 tracks played fine, advanced to 3rd track, 3rd track skipped to 4th track about 3/4 through, 4th track played then skipped to 5th track about 3/4 through. 5th track played through, and i stopped it after 6th track started. I understand if it is too early to try to troubleshoot individual minor issues like this - I can wait for future updates of the plug-in if you think that will resolve things. PS - as I am not a "github kinda guy", i had no idea how to try your new plug-in until i saw Paul Webster's post in another thread recently about there being an "other repository" field for pasting your link at the bottom of the plug-ins list in LMS. I learned something new! +---+ |Filename: upnpbridge log 1.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39310| +---+ Spacegrass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116980 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for that explanation Phillippe - the technical stuff is over my head, but i get the general concept. I edited the buffer value as you suggested, and in the first run-through, it was a success - first 4 tracks (same ones as in previous logs) played through with no truncation or skips - but the log info seemed odd because the track names did not show up - so i cleared the log and started the same album again - the log attached is from the second try with the same increased buffer value. There was a problem this time - first track Wildflower played through no problem; on the second track, Peace Dog, the song kept playing but the counter started skipping at 2:08, back to 2:00, up to 2:08, back to 2:00, etc. When the song completed, the track did not advance to track 3 - i advanced it manually, then stopped it in track 3 after 10 seconds. So the buffer size change has definitely altered the behaviour, but not consistently - any further thoughts on what is happening? Thanks again for your time on this! +---+ |Filename: upnpbridge-log6buffer.log| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38750| +---+ Spacegrass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103728 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

In logs 2 and 3, with "gapless" set to "force" and "no" respectively, in both cases 2 of 4 tracks played all the way through, and the other 2 skipped to the next track between about 2/3 and 3/4 through the track. I understand the distinction you are making, but i don't now how i would identify or resolve the networking error or a premature socket closing. The LMS player environment is normally 2 squeezebox players (ie not UPNp) a Naim QB2, and sometimes a Sonos Roam. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)
Hello Phillipe and all. I have used UPNpBridge for a few years, and have never been able to fully resolve the track skipping/truncating issue reported by various people here, and I am hoping you can make some suggestions based on a recent log. I have recently reinstalled LMS 8.2.1 on a Win 10 HP Spectre i7 laptop, and UPNpBridge is installed from the plugin list. I have tried to return the Bridge settings to close to default before taking this log. (i don't see a "restore default settings" option, and trying to delete Preference/cache files in the various ProgramData folders did not seem to reset the Bridge settings.) I have previously tried changing various settings in the Bridge, including trying Transcode in all of PCM, Flac and Mp3 modes, but still get the same track truncating as with passthrough, and as with any other settings i have tried. in the case of the current log playing MP3 files in my library, each of the first 4 tracks played part way through, then skipped to the next track before the end. I look forward to any suggestions for settings changes you may have. .log file attached. +---+ |Filename: upnpbridge-log.log.txt | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38730| +---+ Spacegrass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68163 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103728 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alternatives to spotify / spotty?
In case Julf did not already find this, you go on squeezebox.com to get the Tidal app. You need a squeezebox.com account, and Tidal is under "App Gallery". Re Spotify alternatives, and at the risk of angering the open-source gods, I note that if you have an Apple device you can stream Apple Music to your Squeezebox/LMS devices using Phillipe's Shairtunes plug-in. It is the same monthly price as Spotify, and it is lossless quality, similar to Tidal. Obviously, Apple Music does not "integrate" into LMS as Julf asked, but the Apple Music stream played through Shairtunes does display the album art and track info in LMS, and you can use the volume and pause, forward and back controls in LMS. Thanks Phillippe - good to hear i wasn't imagining it! After reading your post (but before installing 1.64.0), i confirmed the Roam volume was up and making its chimes, i played a Spotty track on LMS via upnp to the Roam, paused it, closed LMS - volume was zeroed on the Roam. Installed 1.64.0, did the same procedure - volume remained up on the Roam. Ergo, it works! (at least based on one try). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)
Firstly, a big thanks to Phillippe for the Upnp bridge this is a brilliant plug-in that has greatly enhanced my use of LMS by allowing the orphans (a Naim QB2 and now a Sonos Roam) to join the LMS family. My minor issue (and it may or may not be a Upnp bridge issue) is that, while the Sonos Roam is working well with Upnp bridge after simply selecting the sonos profile in the common parameters dropdown , I have noticed that after using the Roam via Upnp bridge, the Roams physical volume is zeroed. That is, the Roam audible chimes that ordinarily are heard when holding down its power button are missing but reappear by pressing the increase volume button on the Roam and will continue to be heard until I use Upnp bridge/LMS again. Then the chime volume goes to zero again. To be clear, the line in volume for wireless or Bluetooth inputs to the Roam continue to work perfectly well at all times. So I am wondering if some setting/function in the Upnp bridge app is zeroing the onboard volume of the Roam for the purpose of controlling the Roam from LMS? And if so, can I modify the setting? This is not a big deal, given everything is otherwise working normally but given that the Roams power button has a bit of an uncertain feel to it, the audio chimes are helpful guideposts. LMS version 8.1.2 - 1624550702 is running on an i7 pc with Win 10. Upnp/DNLA bridge version 1.63.1. Thanks for any input.
