Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2016-09-06 Thread donmatter

Sometime in the last week Dash on Demand streams have stopped working
for me via iPlayer and Extras.
LMS finds the correct stream, displays graphic and starts time elapsed,
GUI displays 0, aac. Duet Player indicates playing but there is no
sound there.
Have tried various programmes, eg Clare Teal, Desmond Carrington, Jamie
Cullum (all R2) with same result.

I can listen via Extras by checking 'Enable' Do not want Dash Streams
but Radio 2 only at 128kbps (320kbps CBR, aac on Radio 3)

Live streams play Radios 2,3 or 4 as normal displaying 320kbps CBR, aac

Settings for iPlayer add-in was Dash preference but have tried
Dash>HLS>MP3>Flash aac as an alterative.

Exactly the same result with same Version: (7.7.5 - 1416570306 @ Thu Nov
27 07:38:09 CUT 2014) running on both an XP Desktop and a W7 Laptop.

Hope it's not just me!

What can I say? I'd pay real money to get back what the quick fix
provided. I nearly posted the other day to say that even their 128k
stream sounded to me as good as the Beeb's 320k one.

The only thing you can say about going back to recording MP3 streams for
later listening or using catchup on the computer via a cable is that it
worked in the bad old days so it must still work now!

Thanks for that. Got the acronyms but still no wiser. Have I any control
over what CDN is used for instance?

Have spent the evening trying lots of programmes through iPlayer and
Extras with different router channels or auto.
Long chunk fetch times occur with surprising consistency every 5 to 8
seconds regardless of programme or router channel except at the start of
listening when it can be every second or two.
Times usually 1 to 2.5 secs, occasionally up to 3 or 4 seconds.
Didn't get the expected improvement the later the hour. Download speed
now 2.71Mb/s (broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk, Plusnet provider).

Yes, I'm really in the UK but here in rural Cambridgeshire we only get
over 2mB/s on a good day and it's probably worst at 5pm when everyone
gets home!
I could pay extra for fibre optic bit its ok in practical terms most of
the time. Good thing we're not trying to watch films!

Very happy with the DASH performance at 320kb/s and wouldn't want to put
you to any extra work on my account, however happy to help with testing
if I can. However, don't know what CDN, ak, llnw are, and will need to
find out how to get network connection stats etc.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Finding programmes successfully using
your add-in.

FFWD/REW seems almost always to either work or it doesn't. In other
words if it works, it continues to work for that programme but a few
hours later it may not work, then it continues not to work until say the
next day. Most significant (happily for me!) is perhaps that Helen
Mayhew's Dinner Jazz almost always works, but Sarah Ward's doesn't!

Not specially bothered by this, much more concerned about the next time
they decide to change the page layout!

Update on this:
Works sometimes depending on the programme but changes day to day. For
instance yesterday it worked for Helen Mayhew's Dinner Jazz, Sarah Ward
Jazz Travel but not her Dinner Jazz and 8 others, this morning a
different selection work, particularly if you wait a few minutes. I
understand that this can't be random but finding a reason is about as
far outside my comfort zone as is screen scraping!

Current thoughts are unreliable wi-fi because of other speed-of-response
problems. Am I right is assuming that a windows pc and an apple on the
same wi-fi may compete for wi-fi bandwidth?

Same success - three menu items including 24kbps AAC but this time no
lizard. Never mind, it was a bit small anyway.

Do I understand that the URLs will need periodically updating?
Can anyone do it? Where do you get them from?

For me the FFWD works on the hand controller but not the GUI if it's any
help.

JazzFM Live
JazzFM Catchup

Should I still be selecting Triode's JazzFM plugin, I haven't spotted

Hi bpa,

First apologies for my confusion over how it all works.

I backed up and copied the files, then checked the plugin (which I had
previously unchecked to tidy the GUI) and restarted LMS. Checked the new
plugin listed at the top and re-started LMS again.

Looks like the whole JazzFM directory
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\JazzFM has been
re-written.

Menu probably how it always was for me with no logo, overlapping text.

Very many thanks Chris. Must have looked at it once since I seem to have
a logon, but you know what happens - something else takes over, like the
perennial problems with Iplayer for instance!

Will take a lead and try some of the more obscure like Albert Nicholas
and Freddy Gardner eg. Showing my age there I suppose!

justified if more than a few wanted it.

Hi, as the OP I wondered if you or indeed anyone has made any progress
on this. No idea how many are interested in Jazzfm but personally I'd
try and listen every day if I could make play again work. Somehow the
need to run a cable across the floor from the laptop to the hi-fi is
enough to put me off, and it doesn't provide multi-room anyway.
Did just wonder if all the good work being done by bpa and others on the
BBCiPlayer had any bearing?

Very many thanks bpa and PasTim, iPlayer Extras plugin working fine
(except only for last week's Desmond Carrington!)
However, I now have three more weeks to get it to work for which very
many thanks again.

I've tried every programme from After Midnight to Weekend Wogan and the
most start attempts needed is two. Most start after one. Most report
127Kbps CBR, aac especially if they need a second start.
Desmond Carrington is the _only_ one which doesn't work, it seems stuck
on 0, aac and will not 'connect' for more than a few seconds, no matter
how many starts are attempted.
Be delighted if anyone can suggest anything else to try.

Could anyone hazard a guess why any station or programme I try seems to
work except Radio 2: Desmond Carrington: The Music Goes Round (Friday
19:00)

eg:

Desmond Carrington: The Music Goes Round: Fifties Night
Desmond's theme for this week is music from the 1950s.
128kbps CBR, aac
0:00
-1:0:16 (1 of 1)
Desmond Carrington: The Music Goes Round: Fifties Night
Desmond's theme for this week is music from the 1950s.

Also can't see search facility referred to by posters above.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2015-03-18 Thread donmatter

Just had to add my grateful thanks to Triode for the Alpha Test version
now working fine on the following:

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.5 - 1416570306 @ Thu Nov 27 07:38:09
CUT 2014
Hostname: DHC-new-Acer
Server IP Address: 192.168.0.5
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Windows 7 - EN - cp1252
Platform Architecture: 8664
Perl Version: 5.14.1 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 1

Main interests: R2 and 3 On Demand
Observations: Sound Quality significantly better than FM, Graphics
(pictures) working fine.
Tip for skipping to earlier/later points in the programme: pause first,
then quickly un-pause when you think you are at the time you want.
Appears more reliable than just clicking the bar. Have noticed this at
times in the past.
Now got everything crossed for the future!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Triode Spotify Plugin - Remote Streaming Issue

2015-01-20 Thread donmatter

Just a short note to thank Triode for the Spotify Plugin which I have
just successfully commissioned on LMS feeding four Duet players.

Got error messages until I setup the plugin as instructed and re-started
a couple of times. I can now play my BBC Playlister through the
Squeezebox, not just through the laptop!

Thanks again.

Hi, grateful for your assistance and interest.

Yes, I do display extensions, and the file downloads as
jazzfm.opml.16102014.txt so I figured it was only the first bit SB
needed, but for some strange reason, whilst File Manager can see it, SB
can't.

Have checked its properties and it's open for all functions by System.
So I'm at a loss!

I know I'm on Windows but can't seem to get past 4. above.

I can show the folder where I know the file is (stripped to
'Jazzfm.opml') but not show the file itself. I assume that SB is not
seeing the file for some reason.

Yes insert the URL and you can play it whenever you like. Saved a weeks
worth of 'Dinner Jazz' to favourites and can play them in any order I
like. Quality seems better as well.

Playlist information looks like being more useful on Jazz FM as well,
now they put play times on songs.

Thanks Triode and everyone else.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!

2014-09-30 Thread donmatter

I notice we have lost Jazz FM again, on Duet in my case.

Their website has changed and I suppose improved in that you can catch
up on three or four previous shows, instead of just the latest.

Triode, is there any chance please?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Audio On Demand part of Triode's JazzFM plugin not working

2013-12-05 Thread donmatter

Very many thanks indeed Triode, I have not thought to look for weeks,
being resigned to life with a low-fi cable from the laptop. Installation
only took a minute and it works as well if not better than it ever did.

Again many thanks, you are indeed a star! This will double my use of
the Duets and I see no reason to replace it, not with my 70yr old ears
anyway.

Question is - what can I do for you??

I do beg your pardon, what I should have said is that the BBC IPlayer
from a computer as of the last two or three days requires a pass-worded
logon and yet the Triode plugin still works on the squeezebox without a
logon. All we need is Jazz fm to work the same way!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Audio On Demand part of Triode's JazzFM plugin not working

Just been made aware of this thread, started after mine on the Duet
forum. I appreciate now that this would have been a better place to air
this problem.

My question now is that the BBC now require logging in to I Player and
yet Triode's plug in still works fine. No surprise perhaps that the Beeb
is more sophisticated and more sensitive to users requirements than Jazz
fm.
