Thanks for the information. I've been out of town, or I would have replied sooner. The affected albums turned out to have a "DISCTOTAL" tag and to have that tag set to a number >1. (These albums also have a "TRACKTOTAL" tag, but it doesn't cause problems.) This tag is unfamiliar to me. My older albums don't have it at all. The albums that were showing this problem were mostly multi-disc sets, but not always. The system running LMS (a piCorePlayer) had a mysterious crash the evening before I noticed the problem. This probably has to do with the introduction of this problem, though I have no idea how. I don't see how that would have introduced these tags or changed their values in a sensible way. They must have been there but not "noticed" somehow prior to the crash. Anyway, setting DISCTOTAL=1, or better, removing the tag, fixes the problem. Only Material is affected by this, btw. The default LMS web interface doesn't seem to notice. Thanks again for your help and, as always, for your work on this wonderful software. -David dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
As of today, when I click on certain albums in the browse window, either to play or to append to the queue, I get a popup window which I must click to confirm the action. I'll attach a screenshot. The albums play; it's just that there's this popup. Only some albums that have been recently added to my system seem to be affected. But others added at the same time are not affected. If I click on an affected album to display its tracks in the browse window, then I can click to play it in the title bar at the top of the browse window and it plays without the popup. Individual tracks never seem to be affected, even for affected albums. I have cleared and rescanned the database, and the behavior continues. This is very weird, and I don't know what else to try. -David 36803 +---+ |Filename: 2022-01-12.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36803| +---+ dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
You can make any album produce the bad-track-order-queue problem by changing the track numbers of the file names. Here is an example. Below is the original file listing for an album. 34966 The track numbers are in sequential order. Search for the artist, click the artist name, and then play the album that appears in the album list for the artist. The tracks are in the proper order, as below. 34967 To produce the bad queue, rename the files by duplicating some of the track numbers. In the example below, I renamed "04", "05", and "06" to be "01", "02", and "03". 34968 You can see, for example, that in the screenshot above, the second circled file name has "01" as the track number, but it's the fourth movement of the symphony. Now rescan the database, search for the artist name, click the name, and play the album from the list that appears. The following was my result: 34969 +---+ |Filename: Screenshot 2021-06-10 182447.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34969| +---+ dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Perhaps this is messing things up? > As noted in my sig, you can use Material's debug to see what commands > are sent to LMS. Thanks for your reply. It's hard for me to read the debug log, but it looks like the response to "cmd:add" employs "sort:album". I have found another album that exhibits the problem. The key seems to be that the album has been ripped from multiple disks. For example, the second album doing this is a two-disk set with seven tracks per disk. If I click on the artist's name and then click (+) on the album, the tracks are queued in the order: 1,8,9,2,3,10,4,11,12,5,13,6,7,14. It's going in order, but with the two disks interleaved somehow. But again, if I click the (+) directly without first clicking on the artist's name, the problem goes away. In the tags, the tracks are numbered sequentially, 114. There is no discnumber tag. But the filenames have not been changed from what the ripper produced. The format is "01 [artist name] - [track title].flac". So there are two files whose name starts "01", two that start "02", etc. Could that make a difference somehow? dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
I have an album that in certain conditions gets queued in the wrong track order. I am using this in Windows 10. If I search for the artist name, then click on the name, scroll down the album list to the album I want and click the + to add the album, it is added in a strange order. I will include a screen shot below. If I click the album title in the album list, the tracks are displayed in the proper order, as in the left pane of the screen shot. But in the queue in the right pane, you can see that they're out of order. Note that what's jumbled are the opus numbers. The "Songs without Words" has eight "books," each with six songs and its own opus number. The queue order is the first (Op. 19) and fifth (Op. 62) books listed by song number, 1, 2, 3, ..., then the second and sixth books, etc. So, the tracks are interleaved, 1, 25, 2, 26, 3, 37, ... 23, 47, 24, 48. The regular LMS web interface doesn't do this. But material skin doesn't always do it either. If I search for the artist name and DON'T click on the name, but just add the album from the list that appears under his name, it is queued correctly, in the right order. I can't seem to reproduce the bad order in Android. Any ideas as to what is going on? 34957 +---+ |Filename: 2021-06-10.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34957| +---+ dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
When I click the three dots on an item in my queue and select "More," what shows up in the left pane is normally a list of all the tags for that item. An example is the screenshot below. But I noticed last night that sometimes the display is abbreviated, consisting only of "Artist" (not Album Artist, although that's what it is), "Album," "Genre," and "Title," which last is oddly placed -below- "More Info." Now this morning, that behavior has changed, although not for my Android device. Any idea what's going on? Actually, after some thought, I figured it out. I had rescanned the database, and the items in the queue that were affected by the display problem were already there before the rescan. Items added later were the ones that showed all the tags. This morning the problem is gone on my PC because I made a new queue, but not on my Android device because I didn't change that queue (which is for a different player). So, now I guess this is a merely informational post, in case anyone else notices this. -David 34885 +---+ |Filename: 2021-06-02.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34885| +---+ dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP and ALAC ???
Sorry, but I'm not sure what else to say. You say PUID tags, but I don't think those matter. What you want are the fingerprint and especially the analysis tags. They are called MUSICMAGIC FINGERPRINT and MUSICMAGIC DATA for MP3 files and so I assume for m4a as well. In FLAC they are called just FINGERPRINT and ANALYSIS. I assume you have those? Do they have the right names? Otherwise If you have conventional MP3s on your NAS, you can get them in the MiP database and mix them with no trouble? And the same procedure fails with your analyzed ALAC files? There is a variety of poorly understood (by me anyway) options for adding files to the database in the MiP GUI. There are Refresh Songs on the Library menu and adding a Watch Folder on the Options dialog box. There may be no effective difference between these, but I'd try them both. That's all I can think of for now. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93059 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP on Windows: Some lessons learned
The HTTP API port number is 10002 by default. It is set for MiP Headless in the mmm.ini file. You should make sure MiP Headless and the MusicIP plugin in LMS are set to use the same port, presumably 10002. Charles Parker at Spicefly has reported that if the MiP GUI is exporting services on the same port, these can interfere. Check the MiP GUI under Preferences|Services to make sure the services are stopped. He also recommends changing the port number there to 10003 to ensure there will be no conflicts. I haven't experienced your problem, but I'd try these things first. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP and ALAC ???
Interesting. I have an album that MiP doesn't like and claims not to be able to analyze. It finally did, though. And it still complains about the ID3 tags for these files in the log, although it lists them and will mix them. The thing is, these came from iTunes. They're probably the only iTunes files I own. Anyway, here's an idea. All you really need is to have the fingerprint and analysis data stored in tags in the files, and you only have to do it once, and the fingerprinting/analysis should be independent of the file encoding. So you might try converting to FLAC, running the analysis using Win7, store the analyses in tags, then convert back to ALAC. A bit of a pain, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. You'd need a converter program that preserves tags, but I shouldn't think that would be a problem. The dbPoweramp converter is fast and preserves tags well. At least, the one big file conversion job I did using that program preserved all the tags without a hitch. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93059 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You can check that path in the log file that MusicIP keeps in the same folder with its database file default.m3lib. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP and ALAC ???
You can certainly do the analysis on a different machine from the one where you ultimately keep the music files. In fact, this is recommended. Your NAS I presume has an anemic CPU. The analysis is CPU-intensive, so even counting for the time/hassle of copying large amounts of data between machines, it is probably worth putting your music files for analysis on the machine with the best CPU you've got. Just make sure MusicIP stores the analysis in tags in your music files. Then they will be portable and never have to be reanalyzed. As to whether, once all this is done, MusicIP running on Linux will be able to read your m4a files, I don't know, I only run Windows. It won't need to read the files, but it will need to read the tags. I would experiment with just a few files before going whole hog. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93059 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New mixes from same seed in MusicIP
I have Variety set to 0 in both the global and player settings. The MiP Headless settings have Variety = 5 and Style = 2. I have never altered the Headless settings, since they seem to have no effect on the mixes MusicIP creates within LMS. I have tried Style settings of 0, 71, 100, 150, 200, etc. These change the mixes I get, but not the fact that, if Variety = 0, the mixes are the same every time. Right now I have Style = 150 in both global and player settings. Have you tried this in MiP GUI? This is how the MiP GUI works for me. This is one thing that has persuaded me that this is how it's supposed to work. Further confirmation seems to come from Sidhue's post that you kindly directed me to: "If you select 0 [variety] you will always get the same "best" mix from a given seed song based on your other settings." However, in playing around with this more, I've found that I don't get the same mix every time unless BOTH the global and player Variety settings are set to 0. If either is set to nonzero, then I get different mixes. Oddly, the "Player settings for each mix" setting seems not to affect this. From the name, it sounds like setting this to Yes should allow individual player settings to override the global settings. But it doesn't seem to work that way. (I find the "i" button text for this setting ambiguous: "You may choose to give each player access to the MusicIP mix settings before generating a mix. Any player-chosen settings will override the server settings and remain, until they are changed again from the player. If you wish to skip directly to creating a mix, using existing player/server settings only, then choose no.") Re Style, I get the impression from Sidhue's post that it's a sort of composite fingerprint from multiple songs by a given artist. That makes sense, and it's a cool idea. Too bad my artists for a given song are all in a single tag separated by a separator character. LMS parses these into individual artists for me, but MiP doesn't. So since most of my songs have multiple artists, and they often change within an album, since personnel often differ from track to track on an album, I have an awful lot of "artists" by MiP's reckoning that don't have enough songs to generate the composite fingerprint. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92999 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New mixes from same seed in MusicIP
I've been using pretty common tracks to test this, tracks that are like lots of others I've got. But I've had a breakthrough. What seems to control this is having the Mix Variety set to 0. I don't think the behavior is related to Squeezebox -- the MusicIP GUI was doing the same thing, producing identical mixes of identical tracks time after time for any given seed. When I tried a nonzero Mix Variety -- say, 1 -- I started getting different mixes, both in LMS and in MiP GUI. Having different Style values doesn't help; as long as the Variety is set to 0, the same seed produces the exact same mix every time. I'd be interested to know if you find the same thing. Do you happen to know what the difference is supposed to be between Style and Variety? So the "lesson learned" for me on this one is: (1) you can use either UNC names or drive letter paths to point to your music collection, but they have to be the SAME in LMS and MiP; and (2) the coordination has to be between LMC and whichever version of MiP you're using, GUI or Headless, so if you've used the GUI to set the path but are using Headless to talk to LMS, hit the "Reload Cache" button in Headless! -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I always thought that the Headless database is > just a convenient way of having the MIP service always running rather > than having the MIP GUI open all the time? Good point. This was my understanding. I suppose I got this idea from this wiki article (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Integrating_MusicIP_with_SqueezeCenter) which says (in the section "What is MusicIP?") that Headless is "the version that can be integrated with SC," as though the GUI version can't be. And maybe that was true when the wiki article was written. It's based on MiP 1.8, whereas the "current" version is 1.9. But now that I think about it, the GUI Options screen has a "Services" tab that allows you to define a services port (10002 by default, same as Headless) and that lists various services the GUI can export, including its API. And indeed cparker's instructions advise you to change the port number and uncheck all the service boxes so as to avoid conflict with Headless. In fact, my finding is that you don't have to do this: just leaving the services stopped in the GUI is enough. But if you start the services in the GUI (with the port number that SBS is listening on), and stop the Headless service, then MiP mixes do get created, and with the GUI's settings, not Headless's. I'm glad to have my error corrected. :-) It's still true, of course, that GUI and Headless maintain separate databases, and you have to make sure when you do a refresh that you refresh the database for the version that is talking to SBS. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

That's bad. Are the tags corrupted in the files or just in the scanned database? These are MP3 files? What tag version? I seem to recall cparker recommending ID3v2.3 only. It's here: http://www.spicefly.com/squeezeboxmip/51-adding-music-into-musicip-and-squeezebox-.html. But he doesn't cite problems with MiP as the reason. It's more to do with compatibility with Windows XP. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

gorman;683166 Wrote: > Let me understand better, the problem arises if one skips scanning with > SBS and just imports from MIP? The problem arises no matter how you do the scanning because MiP mixes are created by MiP itself for delivery to SBS, and MiP won't include any file that has a non-ascii character in its path/file name in a mix. What different methods of scanning can affect is what files/info are available in SBS once the scan is done. It depends on whether SBS scans the file tags itself or gets them from MiP. I don't know about SugarCube (yet), which appears to be what you're using, but for the Logitech MiP plugin, in LMS Settings, go to Advanced|MusicIP. The first line on that screen is "Use MusicIP," and the two options are called "Only read mixable status from MusicIP (faster)" and "Import all song data from MusicIP (slower)." -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Or maybe it's because I use the LMS setting to only get mixable > status from MusicIP and I don't use MIP for my library. Interesting. All I can say is that when I first got it all installed and the MiP database scanned into LMS and I was finally ready for action -- or so I thought -- there was no "Create MusicIP Mix" link on the info pages for my songs in LMS. Being so new to it all, I wasn't even completely sure what it should look like and how I was supposed to be able to create a mix. I spent about two very aggravating hours trying to think of reasons why it wasn't working, searching threads in this forum looking for discussion of the problem (surprised to find there was none), and testing hypotheses. What finally got things working was removing the UNC names from the Folder entries in Basic Settings in LMS. I then did various experiments trying to get MiP and LMS integrated using UNC names, since I would prefer to use them, but these all failed. I also use "Only get mixable status from MusicIP (faster)." (Which, by the way, is for me not any faster than the alternative "Import all song data from MusicIP (slower)." Both increase my scanning time by about 50%. But I figure it's better to let LMS read the file tags for itself than to rely on what MiP can read. Not that I noticed any problems due to relying on MiP for the song data -- it just seems unwise to trust it if you don't have to.) So I wonder what the difference between our systems is that accounts for your being able to use UNC. Maybe some difference in our WHS installs? Anyway, I would just advise any other newbie who encounters the problem described above to try replacing UNC names for determining Media Folders in LMS with drive letter paths and see if that resolves the problem. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yeah, I figure installing SugarCube is inevitable. :-) But I figure I'd like to get comfortable with the basic functionality first. I have so far not even bothered to adjust any of the mix settings that Logitech's plugin supplies. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP on Windows: Some lessons learned
ate a process for finding them all. If you use MP3Tag, you can use my solution, which is posted here: http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=14976. If you have thousands of affected files, not hundreds, it might -- depending on your skills -- be worth figuring out how to automate fixing them, not just finding them. After all, the greater the percentage of your collection that can't be mixed, the less valuable MiP becomes. But I have no particular advice to offer as to how to do that (which says something about my own skills). There is no need to fix the names before running the analysis, since the bad names don't prevent MiP from analyzing the files and writing the analyses into tags. So you can fix the files at leisure afterwards and then refresh the MiP database. Speaking of refreshing the MiP database, another peculiarity of MiP is that the Headless system doesn't refresh its version of the MiP database when this is rebuilt using the GUI. That is, once you have MiP Headless running, you can delete the database file (default.m3lib), start the GUI, and compleltely rebuild the database, but Headless won't get the message until you click the "Refresh Songs" button in the Headless interface. (Stopping and restarting the Headlesss service would probably also do the trick, but I didn't test this.) And since it is the Headless system that communicates with Squeezebox, changes in the MiP database made with the GUI can't be scanned into Squeezebox until the Headless database is refreshed. One last item is that Squeezebox and MiP can't be integrated if you're using UNC names (\\server\share\rest_of_path_if_any) to point Squeezebox to your music collection. I'm not sure why this should be so. But I could not get MiP to use UNC names (even though you can use a UNC name to point MiP to your music collection) and the Logitech plugin for MiP doesn't make up the difference. So make sure you use drive letters to point Squeezebox to your music collection. It's really too bad the developers of MusicIP abandoned it and no one has carried on the project. The ability to create systems like this is a major benefit of computerizing your music, imo, and once in place, they are hugely enjoyable to play around with. Fortunately, at least in my case, getting MusicIP installed and integrated with Squeezebox was really not that much trouble, and I would encourage others whose situations are like mine to give it a try. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92930 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Biography plugin: updated to matchallmusic.com layout change
I just recently installed it, and I love it too. But I have a question. I have quite a few tracks with multiple artist tags. What does the plugin do in this case, just take one at random? I suspect it may be doing more than that, since it usually comes up with the singer. Is there any way one could be presented with a list of the track artists to choose from? -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23099 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
