Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XM radio plugin with 7.4?

2010-01-01 Thread huytere

I am using 7.4 and 3.5.1 and it plays music fine. The only problem I
have is that it does not display the current Artist and Song title. I
have tried many stations and this is not working.

Is anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-22 Thread huytere

the home run system is way more scalable than putting local hardware in
every room, there is no doubt about that... The av matrix makes it so I
could have squeezebox receiver playing music in all 16 rooms/zones, or
just one or two, it is totally controllable. Like you said, mom could
listen in the kitchen, dad could listen in all the upstairs rooms, and
kid could listen in garage. It is infinitely flexible.

If you see in the hardware list below, I am buying 3 SB hardware
receivers... one for everybody in the house. I could always get more
later. I do not intend to use the software player at all. The av matrix
switcher has 16 audio inputs, and it is easily expandable. It scales out
easily to 48x48... no worries!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-22 Thread huytere

I am a SB newbie. For the last few days I have been waiting for my SB
Receiver to arrive. In my excitement about the SB device I registered on
mysqueezebox.com and downloaded the sb server exe to my laptop. I
installed it and ran the sb server interface and saw that i could
install softsqueeze or squeezeplay. I installed squeezeplay and it
worked perfectly. I added XM plugin and lots of apps. I was thrilled. I
started writing some Crestron code to control it via my "whole house
control system and GUI".

My equipment cabinets in the closet contain:

12 Marantz sr6001 AV receivers

-
12 Marantz sr6001 AV receivers

1 Crestron Pro2 Control System
http://www.crestron.com/products/show_products.asp?jump=1&model=pro2

2 DishNetwork DSS receivers

1 Bluray Disk player

1 Dvd Player

1 Wii

1 Crestron CEN-TRACK AM/FM/XM Tuner Rack

1 Video Storm 16x16 HDTV/Multichan Audio Matrix Switcher
http://www.video-storm.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CMX1616V

1 Security Camera IP Camera DVR

3 Squeezebox Receivers (future)

1 DSL Modem

1 DLINK DNS-323 NAS (stores files, music, etc)

1 Lenovo ThinkCenter (a dedicated Squeezebox Server)

2 Netgear 24 port switches

The crestron PRO2 control processor has a progam (that I programmed).
And this PRO2 processor controls the 12 AV REceivers, the 16x16 AV
Matrix Switcher, the Cen-Track, the 3 Squeezebox Receivers, the IP
Security Camera DVR, the BluRay player, Dvd player, DSS Receivers.

Here are the rooms in the house and what they contain:

Master Bedroom - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Master Sitting - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Bedroom 1 - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Guest Bedroom - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
His Office - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Her Office - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Garage - 4 speakers
Living Room - 2 speakers in wall
Family Room - 7.1 Surround speakers in wall, 1 Plasma TV
Dining Room - 2 speakers in wall
Powder Room - 1 speaker
Master Bath - 3 speakers, 1 Plasma
Foyer - 1 speaker
Kitchen - 2 speakers, 1 LCD
Bathroom One - 1 speaker
Bathroom Two - 2 speakers

All the in-wall speakers and plasmas home run directly into the
equipment room cabinets and terminate at the AV Receivers (speakers) and
the Video Switcher (plasmas and lcds).

All the rooms have a TPMC4X in wall touch screen controller that
controls lighting, music, satellite, bluray, climate, security, etc.

Rooms with Tvs also have a handheld TPMC3X wand remote that allows the
user to control lighting, music, satellite, bluray, climate, security,
etc. But normally these handheld remotes just control music and
satellite.

The Squeezebox Receivers will simply be sources that will be
controlled. They are just filling the need for music in the system. The
in wall speakers are used for many things, like announcing Caller ID
when somebody calls, intercom to the front door visitor, watching TV,
listening Squeezebox, watching Bluray, watching Youtube, Home
Automation, etc.

I do not need the SB handheld remote, or any SB UI because Crestron
will always be controlling my SB receivers.

Since I have been using it for a few days, I really love the squeezebox
community, it seems the best in the world. And I love the open
architecture. I finally found out why I need to buy the SB Receivers,
it is because the sound card on PCs have buffering issues that cause the
audio to sound very slow motion because of buffer/timing issues.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: FindArt plugin beta

2009-12-22 Thread huytere

For most stations I listen to, there is no art. How can I make FindArt
work automatically so that if it detects that there is no artwork it
will automatically search amazon? I do not want to be involved with
anything, just do it for me automatically. This will be better than
looking at the boring icons that are displayed when there is no related
art on internet stations. Or even make it just show a random image from
Flickr, to make life more exciting. Hope this request makes sense? Can
it be done now with a workaround?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

Thanks for the quick replies. I am on the same wavelength as you
eventually everybody in the family will have their own dedicated SB
Receiver. All the SB Receivers will be located in the centralized AV
cabinet. That way they could have everything setup like they love
it

If mom goes to the kitchen, she could use the Crestron control system
to control the output of SBmom receiver device to ouput the digital
audio thru the AV matrix switcher so it plays in the kithcne only. Then
as the food cooks she could relax in family room and the audio will flow
into there.

meanwhile, dad is in the office listenting to his dedicated sb
receiver

The sb receiver really is priced perfectly at $149!

the funny thing is that i already ordered the receiver (without
controller) and I have been sleepless for two days with thoughts of
developing plugins and GUI for it!! and now I found I could get started
without even buying the hardware LOL

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

For the "looks", I am not worried about it. It will be installed into a
proper AV cabinet. All the amplifiers, av matrix switcher, crestron
system is located centrally in the equipment room of my house. It is a
whole house AV distribution system. So the "sources" will be wii,
satellite tv, bluray, squeezebox pc, security camera DVR, etc.

Hope that makes sense. I am playing devils advocate so I can understand
more about squeezebox. Is there any chance that the audio will have
synch issues if the server and player are located on the same physical
machine? In my mind, the performance should be "even better" if it is
all located on a single machine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

Ok, understood. For me, that is not a problem because my homemade SB rig
will have its SPDIF output feeding directly into a Video Storm 16x16
SPDIF Audio Matrix Switcher
(http://www.video-storm.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CMX1616V) and this will
allow me to send the audio to every room in my house. Every room in the
house has a dedicated Onkyo receiver.

In my previous question, I did not tell this because I wanted the
scenario/question to be clear.

Are there any other disadvantages to just running everything on a
"single always on home built PC"??

I will be controlling the SB PC with Crestron control system, and be
using my own handheld remotes (TPMC3X). You can see the control module
and GUI examples here:
http://www.controlworks.com/Modules/Product.aspx?pid=60

Are there any other disadvantages I should know about?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SqueezeDroid - Open Souce Android Remote

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

Hi Chris, nice good clean code. Today is my first day using SB and I
want to write a player/GUI for it that will run in Adobe Air/Flex. I
have been googling like crazy trying to find documentation on the "CLI"
telnet control interface and cannot find it! I have seen your CLI calls
in CliSqueezeService.java and it helps me understand a little bit about
the CLI. Do you have a cheatsheet or any kind of documentation on the
CLI protocol for issuing commands? How did you figure it all out!?!?
Help, please send me something...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

THanks Phil!

ok, so if I understand, the main reasons to buy the Receiver would be
to get the device closer to the audio amplifier, and do it wirelessly...
it is very convenient for some users I guess.

And, as you said sound quality. So, I could just build my own PC,
buy a good sound card with SPDIF output and wire it directly to the
SPDIF on my Onkyo and in that case the DAC is not even being used
because the signal path stays in the digital realm the whole time!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] what is the point of buying the SB Receiver or Controller??

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

I have an old laptop and decided to turn it into a squeezebox rig. I
registered an account at mysqueezebox.com, installed Squeezebox Server
on the old laptop, installed Squeezeplayer on the old laptop. Then I
configured the SB system to use my Pandora account, my Last.FM account,
and added 10 of my favorite Shoutcast stations. Everything is working
perfectly! I put the laptop on top of my Onkyo amplifier and wired the
headphone out directly to the audio input on the Onkyo receiver. Again,
perfect sucess!!

Everything is working so great!!

What is the point of buying the SB Receiver!!?? Since a PC is required
to run SB Server, I do not understand the point of buying the SB
REceiver! It seems very stupid device to buy when an old laptop could be
used "all in one".

Am I missing something????
