Hi Phillippe,
just to be sure: I‘ve been reading trough this thread for quite some

without worrying about your Plugin?

I use both options: squeezelite for playback within the LMS biosphere,
and Airplay to be able to stream sound (for example from videos)
directly from iOS devices to the Raspi and the amps and speakers
connected to it.

You‘re absolutely right. I believe it‘s an issue with „sound over HDMI“,
because as soon as I change squeezelite settings to „analog“, the Pis
show up as Airplay devices again.
I remembered that there have been issues with PCP, HDMI and Shairport.
With PCP 3.11, relase notes said:
> If you are using Shairport-sync you will need to:

This fix doesn‘t seem to work with PCP 3.22 however - will have to ask
in the PCP 3.20 thread...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: AirPlay Bridge = integrate AirPlay devices with LMS (squeeze2raop)

2017-11-21 Thread streampunk

Hi Philippe,
I'm not sure what has happened, but two out of three Raspis running PCP
3.22 (one of the also running LMS) won't show up any longer as Airplay
targets.
The only one that shows up (beside the built-in Airplay from my Denon
AVR) is a Raspi conected via Wifi. There is another one connected via
Wifi that doesn't show up, and the one which is running LMS, too, is
connected via cable to the LAN mand doesn't show up either.
I've tried the usual things:
- deleting and re-creating the raopbridge.xml
- deleting and re-installing the plugin
- restarting all Raspis
- resetting the router
but the result is always the same: Only one Raspberry shows up (in the
plugin config file as well as on any iOS device).
Now I'm not sure where to look for the problem, especially as I can't
find any differences between the setup of the one showing up and the
orhers - any advice?
Thanks
Martin

I'm testing remotely (via VPN) at the moment. The fact is that I can't

managed to get it running or simply sent the Raspebery Pi into an

shutdown by shutdown -r in the shell script).

Very interesting, didn't know that.
I imagine it's not that easy as putting

Code:

def handler()
  system("/path/to/your/shutdown-script")
  end
  source = on_blank(handler,source)

into the Liquidsoap recipe (*.liq file)

Code:

#!/usr/bin/liquidsoap
  # set the path and permissions for the logfile
  set("log.file.path","/var/log/liquidsoap/phono.log")
  set("log.file.perms",777)
  set("log.unix_timestamps",true)
  #input from soundcard
  phono = input.alsa(bufferize=true,fallible=false,device="hw:1")
#stream it to local icecast, default port and password

output.icecast(%ogg(%flac(samplerate=44100,channels=2,compression=5,bits_per_sample=16)),
 mount="/phono", name="Phono", format="audio/ogg", description="Turntable
FLAC", url="http://192.168.178.200”;, genre = "Misc", phono)

?

Also, I didn't find information whether the length of the blank can be
configured with on_blank in the same way as with strip_blank
(strip_blank(max_blank=5...)?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2017-11-21 Thread streampunk

I was trying to do it the way that is described in
http://thomer.com/howtos/detect_sound.html, which basically creates
short samples of what is played through the sound card, analyses their
voulme with sox and make the Raspi do sth. (e.g. shutdown) when the
volume level drops below certain value. But I wasn't able to solve the

Code:

ALSA lib pcm_dsnoop.c:618:(snd_pcm_dsnoop_open) unable to open slave
arecord: main:788: audio open error: Device or resource busy

problem. Everything else worked perfectly, i.e. creating the wave
samples, sox analysis etc., shutdown when no sound is detected in the
sample - but only when Liquidsoap wasn't running at the same time.

So I parked the project and opted for a hardware solution
(button/switch). Hoping of course that sb. with better Linux skills and
similar interests would do the job ;)

I've deactivated LiquidSoap and Icecast now. When I start the playback
of a sound file with

Code:

aplay -vv -D hw:0,0 test.wav

, it play all right (at least the "VU meter shown with -vv is alive)
However, when I try to record with

Code:

/usr/bin/arecord -D plughw:0,0 -d 30 -f S16_LE > sample.wav

or

Code:

/usr/bin/arecord -d 15 sample2.wav

there are no errors, the wav file is generated - but no sound in it. In
the latter case there is some noise.
I'm not sure whether it has to do with the fact that there is a plug in
the mic/line in of the soundcard and arecord tries to record from this
source instead from the playback. I wasn't able to find the parameters
to tell arecord to capture the playback - are there?

I think that yesterday the sound detection script only worked because it
was "listening" to Card 0 (which was the onbourd sound chip before my
changes), while the LiquidSoap script was still configured to listen to
Card 1 (which was the USB sound card before my changes).
It seems to me that the "busy" message occurs because there are two
items trying to access the same card.
Will now de-activate liquidsoap and try again...

hw:1 to hw:0 (logically)

I understand that it's configured in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf:

  # This sets the index value of the cards but doesn't reorder.
  options snd_usb_audio index=0
  options snd_bcm2835 index=1

  # Does the reordering.
  options snd slots=snd_usb_audio,snd_bcm2835

This worked:

Code:

pi@wega:~ $ cat /proc/asound/modules
  0 snd_usb_audio
  1 snd_bcm2835

which seems to basically have resolved the dsnoop issue:

Code:

pi@wega:~ $ arecord -f cd -c 2 -D dsnoop foobar.wav
Recording WAVE 'foobar.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz,
Stereo
Warning: rate is not accurate (requested = 44100Hz, got = 48000Hz)
please, try the plug plugin (-Dplug:dsnoop)

I tried

Code:

This would be a way, but not a fully automatic one. I even found a
(German language) 'How-to'
that explaines how playing a prepared mp3 file (extra information in the
meta data) in MPD can be used to shutdown the raspi. But what I was
looking for was a fully automatic way - you put the record to play, go
to the place where you are listening and can forget about shutting down
the Raspi - until you need it again perhaps two weeks later.

I simply direct LMS (via iPeng) to a special m3u-playlist stored in LMS'
playlist folder that directs to the Icecast stream on the phono Raspi
("IP-ADDRESS"):

Code:

#CURTRACK 0
  #EXTM3U
  #EXTURL:http://IP-ADDRESS:8000/phono
  #EXTINF:-1,Phono
  http://IP-ADDRESS:8000/phono

I understood that it's dsnoop that allows two simultaneous recordings
from the same capture device (which is what I would need to go the sox
way). But I get the same "busy" message using dsnoop instead of hw:1,0

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2017-10-25 Thread streampunk

Good morning,
Perhaps I'm going slightly OT, but as I suppose that you audio
specialist here are familiar with my question, I'll try it here: Now
that the phono streaming to LMS is working, I'm looking for a way to
have a clean shutdown (as opposed to simply switch of the power) of the
Raspi Zero once there is no significant audio signal on the line in of
the sound card, for example 15 minutes after the last vinyl record
reached its end. Significant in the sense of music, because I suppose
that, having an analogue source, there will always be some basic noise
or humming, even when no record is playing.
I've been browsing throug the alsa utils and alsa tools, but didn't find
a tool to detect and/or measure the audio level on the sound card.
What I did find is sox beeing used to detect audio (for example
http://thomer.com/howtos/detect_sound.html). But it seems that sox
analyzes a 5-second-recording, and my Linux skills aren't even
sufficient for analyzing whether sox could also detect an Icecast stream
or LiquidSoap's output, let alone how.
As I don't want to re-invent the wheel and was thinking that there might
have been others resolving this kind auf auto standby/shutdown: Do you
have any hints for me?
Thanks & best regards
Martin

Thanks!
In the meantime, I've got the lossless phono streaming with Icecast and
Liquidsoap to work in a stable way on a Raspi Zero with Stretch lite and
a 10 Euro USB soundcard with stereo-in.
The integration into LMS ist smooth, simply via a m3u like

Code:

#CURTRACK 0
  #EXTM3U
  #EXTURL:http://IP-ADDRESS:8000/phono
  #EXTINF:-1,Phono
  http://IP-ADDRESS:8000/phono

I'll observe this over the coming days to see whether this solution
works as flawlessly as the wavinput way.
Thanks a lot

Interesting approach. But I have no clue how to wrap

Yes, I‘ve seen that Stretch went back from Pulse to Alsa in terms of
Bluetooth. But I think it‘s still a long way until PCP will come with

I‘ll try. AVM just released firmwares for my router and repeaters with
true mesh functionality. Wifi feels much more vivid since then, perhaps
strong enough for LMS and/or media being sent through the air.
On the other hand, my original idea of having a small Pi zero dedicated
only to streaming phono from the Wega Concept 51k, perhaps even hidden
inside the case of the vintage stereo and „stealing“ its power from the
Wega’s big power suplies still seems an option to me. PiCore‘s LMS with
the great Wavein Plugin is so easy to setup and seems to work in such a
stable way that the little drawback (in my case) to have two LMS doesn‘t
seem really important. And to be sincere: I won‘t be playing vinyl so
often...

Well, all my routers are FritzBox devices from AVM, a German company
known for the extraordinary work they do with firmware updates, so I
don‘t have security concerns in this area (beside the normal ones, cf.
WPA crack...).

I‘ve thought about this, and as I happen to have a unused 128 GB card on
my desk... but even so the wavein Raspi would depend on Wifi. Of course
I could have the LMS on another Raspi attached via ethernet and define
the media as network share on the wavein Raspi. But then I have to admit
that I have no idea about the data flow between LMS, the physical
storage place of the media and the players. Where is it important to
have ethernet connection?
Best regards

PS. I‘ve spent a couple of hours today trying to get the flac streaming
to work, with Alsa and Stretch. Well, I got SOME sound SOMEtimes...
still a long way. And yes: Pulseaudio might cause deep depressions, I
remember having spent hours and hours some time ago to get Bluetooth
working (had to surrender in the end, as so many others)

The network share way is a good idea! I could attach the USB HDD
directly to the router. However, the Raspi used to stream the vinyl can
only access the network via wifi (the one I use now as the main LMS is
attached via ethernet) - not sure whether this would be a disadvantage,
but for sure it's worth giving it a try.

Is it possible to modify the URL in a way that allows it to be invoked
from another LMS/Squeezelite? The background is that I‘ve one Raspi with
PCP/LMS for streaming good old vinyl via Waveinput, and another Raspi
with PCP/LMS for everything else (i.e. local media from an attached HDD,
Spotty, radio). It would be nice if the Wavein stream could be started
from the second Raspi by simply selecting a Favourite, without having to
change the music source and moving the players from one source to
another.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] announce: ShairTunes2W - Airtunes on LMS (forked version with Windows support)

Hi Philippe,
I'm trying to integrate a wonderful 'Wega Concept 51k'
(http://www.studio.de/wega-concept-51k-von-hartmut-esslinger/) from
the 1970's (yes, the one that is part of the permanent exhibition at 'NY
MOMA'
into my audio landscape, especially to make use of its turntable. But I
would like to playback the sound via my Denon AVR-3000X - and I can't
use a cable, so I'm looking for a wireless solution. I don't want to use
2.4 GHz transmitters, and Bluetooth would also be a second choice.
The Denon is Airplay capable. Therefore my question: Do you think that
there might be a way to use a Raspi to "stream" the sound (connected via
line-in/mic-in of a USB audio card connected to the Raspi) via Airplay
to the Denon? Latency due to the time needed for digitizing the analogue
sound input wouldn't be an issue in my case, as I don't plan (for the
moment) to use multiroom setups for the turntable playback. Some kind of
Airplay Bridge between the sound card and LMS and/or PCP?
Thanks & best regards
Martin

Jörg just confirmed that iPeng (player) receives a Pause command from
iOS when another iOS app takes over the audio on the iOS device. And
that iPeng in this case pauses the entire group, and that any
alternative would cause a big confusion. I'll have to think this over,
but I think that this is probably not the behaviour a normal user would
expect.
Anyway, its not a AP bridge issue (but your comments are highly

Yes. And another squeezlite player running on the piCore Raspi (and some
other devices as Kodi with XSqueeze, but they weren't active during the
tests).

Well, I'm not sure whether "locally" is the right word. But yes: In
iPeng's list of (synched) players, one of the players is the iPad iPeng
is running on. So this iPad plays music (coming from the LMS server)
"locally" or sends it to a Bluetooth speaker. And while this is
happening, whenever you start another sound source on this iPad, LMS
playback stops on all players (i.e. not only on the iPad).
>
> I'm missing the connection between iPeng/squeezelite and AirPlay
hmm... perhaps you are right... I automatically supposed that this issue
was related to the Airplay bridge because the effect was very similar to
the one you fixed. I can't find anything related to the sudden stopping
of the playback in der server log (or perhaps I haven't found the
correct logging options yet), though, only the "pause" command in the AP
bridge log.

Philippe,
I've tested the other two cases now.
1. AIRPLAY SPEAKER LOSES NETWORK CONNECTION/ CONNECTS TO ANOTHER WLAN
NETWORK
Airplay speaker is powered off, rest of player continue - perfect...
well, almost: In an ideal world, perhaps Airplay playback would restart
as soon as the speaker gets a network connection again

*2. Playback on iOS device (in my case iPad 4 with iPeng and iPhone 6
with iPeng) is stopped* because another iOS application sends sound
(e.g. starting a Youtube video or opening a web site with background
sound
All other speakers stop, and this seemes to cause a little bit of chaos,
because also the volume settings (as seen in iPeng) are changed
"automatically"
I think this is the log part where it happens (does the plugin get a
"set pause" when LMS playback stops?):

Great, thank you so much. I could only give it a quick try yesterday as
I have to set up the environment I had at my holiday home (holidays are
over :-( ) first.
What definitely works now (after setting the option in the plugin) is
that the other players keep on playing when I switch off the Sony AP
speaker manually.
What doesn't seem to have changed is that all players stop playing when
a sound source different from LMS (as for example a Video or a Website
with background sound) takes over the sound on the iPad. I'll have to
activate the debugging log to see what is happening in this case. I'll
also try to test the behaviour during "WIFI roaming" this evening.

Yesterday I noticed a similar phenomenon in a different constellation: I
was streaming music to two picCore-Squeezelite player and to my iPad
which was linked to a Bluetooth speaker.
When I started a Youtube video on the iPad (its soundtrack "replaced"
the sound of the streaming music on the iPad), playback stopped not only
on the iPad/Bluetooth speaker, but also on the two Squeezelite players.
I hadn't the debug log running, but I imagine that this is the same
"prevent-playback" issue?
Best regards

and I also have an AV receiver at home with integrated Airplay.

Not only when it loses coverage, but also when I put it into standby
manually (network connection stays alive in this case). But this is not
so important, I believe nobody uses the buttons oft this speakers...
I imagine that all this has to do with the fact that the Sony network
speaker came with their own, built-in multiroom syncing function (called
Party Mode).

Would it be possible to have an option in the Airplay Bridge settings to
decide which action should be taken when a prevent-playback message
comes in? I.e. stopping LMS or telling the player to try to resync after
successfully switching to another network?

In addition to the information I gave above, here is part of the LMS
(debug) log. I've also contacted Jörg from iPENG as I wasn't sure
whether the Pause commands were sent by iPeng or by the AP
player/speaker. He thinks that this might be caused by a transcoding
problem or a problem with the sync timing:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: AirPlay Bridge = integrate AirPlay devices with LMS (squeeze2raop)

2017-07-18 Thread streampunk

Hi everybody,
My setup is:
- PCP/LMS, Ap Bridge 0.2.2.5 on a Raspi 3 with Amp connected to PhatDAC,
connected via cable to local network
- 2 Airplay speakers (Sony SA-NS)
- Wifi main zone
- Wifi second zone (2nd router as repeater), same credentials as Wifi
main zone
- iPeng for controlling playback

I've noticed that when I take the AP speaker from the Wifi main zone to
the Wifi secondary zone while playing music, the playback stops, not
only on the Airplay speaker, but also on the cabled Raspi (iPeng
switches to Paused).

Now I'm not sure whether this is normal/inevitable and whether it's
caused by LMS or by iPeng and, more importantly, whether there is a
workaround?

Thanks & best regards
Martin

Thanks for the explanation Philippe. Perhaps it would be an option to
enable your plugin to give some kind of warning (comparable to those a
PC gives if its network address is already in use in the network). The
duplicity of the Airplay option in LMS and the different players can be
quite confusing for beginners as I am ;)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: AirPlay Bridge = integrate AirPlay devices with LMS (squeeze2raop)

2017-04-17 Thread streampunk

Thanks Philippe. Perhaps I found the reason (accidently). I had a Raspi
with Kodi and XSqueeze running in my network, with Kodi's Airplay option
activated. This lead to the Kodi Raspi appearing twice in the player
list, and even if you only activate one, you're running into problems
(that can be seen with some luck on the Kodi screen, changing from the
XSqueeze screen to an Airplay screen).
I'd already found out that it seems to be no good idea to have both your
plugin and the Shairplay/Airplay option of PCP running.
I've deactivated the Kodi Airplay, and crashes seem to have stopped.

2017-04-13 Thread streampunk

Hi,
I hope i've searched hard enough, but I couldn't find the information I
was looking for.
As I'm using LMS and Spotify several months per year at a location where
I have a limited data contingent, I was wondering whether the option to
store songs and playlists locally which the Spotify app offers for
Premium accounts can be used with LMS' Spotify plugins, too?
Best regards
Martin

Ooops, my fault, or wishful thinking ;)
Actually, The Sonys are Airplay compatible, so I'll try it this way.

Thanks for this information. I'll try to find out the volume scaling of
the Sony speakers.
But I'm facing another issue: As far as I understood the excellent
documentation, UPNP players should synchronize as if they were native
SBs. In my case, however, there is a lapse of ca. 1 sec. (the Sonys
behind the Squeezelite players). Where should I look to fix that, in the
LMS settings, in Squeezelite or in the UPNP bridge?

2017-04-12 Thread streampunk

Pbilippe,
Thank you so much for this great plugin. It makes me hoping for the
chance to use my "old" Sony SA-NS510 network speakers with LMS.
I've installed the plugin, and got them playing without changing the
configuration.
However, the playback is not ok yet, volume changes up and down almost
as if it was a vibrato effect.
Tried with the dev version, too, but the problem remains.
As there are so many parameters that can be combined: Any hint where I
could start? Do you need logs?
Best regards
Martin

I'm not sure whether the file structure on the WD is the same. What I
found is:

Code:

/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2/Slim/Plugin

where each plugin has a subfolder, and

Code:

/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins

where the plugins that I've installed are found (Spotify,
RaopBridge...)
And in

Code:

/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2/Cache/DownloadedPlugins

there is ShairTunes2W.zip
Where am I supposed to extract the zip file you've prepared?

I don't know of any way to update the WD besides the regular updating
procedure. Of course, there a hacks to get rid of the entire WD OS and
install a regular Debian. But I'm somewhat reluctant to go this hard way
only to get Airport working.
If there is anything I can provide to get this working with WD's
"SqueezeCenter" (7.7.2 - r3389), let me know.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] announce: ShairTunes2W - Airtunes on LMS (forked version with Windows support)

2016-11-05 Thread streampunk

Thanks Philippe, seems I've got a little bit confused by the different
threads.
Well, so I'm right here with my little problem: I've been sucessfully
running SqueezeCenter 1.3 for a couple of days on my WD MyCloud Ex4 NAS
(Arm. However, when it comes to installing ShairTunes, I get errors:

When using
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/lms-plugins-philippe44/repo-sf.xml
as repo, "ShairTunes2 (fork)" gets available for selection. After
selecting and saving, "ShairTunes2 (fork)" v.35.3 appears (unselected)
in the "Updateted plugins available" section.
After selecting/activating and saving again, it appears in the plugin
list with the comment "plugin could not be loaded".

Reading the instructions in the documentation:

Code:

To install the plugin first - then install the dependancies:
  Linux:
  > apt-get install libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl libio-socket-inet6-perl
libwww-perl avahi-utils libio-socket-ssl-perl
  > wget http://www.inf.udec.cl/~diegocaro/rpi/libnet-sdp-perl_0.07-1_all.deb
  > dpkg -i libnet-sdp-perl_0.07-1_all.deb

I suspect that the reason are missing perl modules, but as the WD Linux
("castrated" Debian/Busybox) comes without apt and my Linux skills are
still to weak to install either apt or the required perl files manually,
I'm lost.

Can anybody give me a hint how to proceed?

System information:

Code:

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 14 06:37:22 MDT 2012
  Hostname: WDMyCloudEX4
  IP address of server: 192.168.xxx.xxx

  Architecture arm-linux

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] announce: ShairTunes2W - Airtunes on LMS (forked version with Windows support)

2016-11-04 Thread streampunk

Hello everybody,
I've been running LMS on a Western Digital MyCloud Ex4 NAS (arm with
'castrated' debian and perl 5.10.0) sucessfully for a couple of days
now. However, I fail to get the Shairplay plugin running.
It loads sucessfully from
downloads.sourceforge.net/project/lms-plugins-philippe44/repo-sf.xml,
but when I activate the plugin and the server restarts, it simply
states:

Code:

Shairtunes2 (fork) v. 0.35.3 Plugin konnte nicht geladen werden [i.e.
Plugin couldn't be loaded]

I'm not sure where to look for the fault. I suspect that there are some
Perl modules missing, as I read at
github.com/disaster123/shairport2_plugin

Code:

To install the plugin first - then install the dependancies:
  Linux:
  > apt-get install libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl libio-socket-inet6-perl
libwww-perl avahi-utils libio-socket-ssl-perl
  > wget inf.udec.cl/~diegocaro/rpi/libnet-sdp-perl_0.07-1_all.deb
  > dpkg -i libnet-sdp-perl_0.07-1_all.deb

Unfortunately, the MyCloud Debian doesn't come with apt, and my Linux
skills are still to weak to get those modules installed manually (if
they are really the reason for the plugin failure).
Can anybody give advice?
Thanks & best regards
Martin
