Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2011-01-27 Thread sugarmonster

I never got to the bottom of it - it was hard to repro since, as the
saying goes "it works on my machine".

I'll take another look when I get some time but that probably won't be
until next week now...

Marc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz moving forward?

2010-01-31 Thread sugarmonster

WRT a new machine you might get more advice on the general forums since
it's not really a plugin specific topic. But here's my 2p anyway:

I bought a Mac Mini because I couldn't build an equivalent windows box
for the price Apple were selling the mini at. I could build small and
quiet, small and powerful (but noisy) or quiet and powerful (but
relatively big).

That was a few years ago when the only options for small/quiet systems
were the VIA embedded boards. These days you have the dual core Intel
Atom based systems which (my gut feel says) should have the horsepower
to run Inguz.

Take a look at the new D510 embedded board - I've not used one, but I
reckon it ought to do the job.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz and 7.4

2010-01-31 Thread sugarmonster

It doesn't have to be radical, any filter designed for one system should
make an audible change (for the worse) on another.

Here's what I'm currently running with - it's pretty mild, but given
that it's measured for my setup it should sound ***p on yours! (Put it
this way - I can hear the effect on my cheap PC speakers when I run
softsqueeze with this filter in place)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2010-01-24 Thread sugarmonster

I don't know what to suggest, what you're describing is just... odd!
Permissions shouldn't be a problem because the installer asks for your
administrative password so that it can copy the files to an otherwise
restricted location.

I'm also not sure why the files aren't going to the right place in your
prefpane - it almost sounds like your SBS isn't where the installer
expects to find it.

Lastly, even missing InguzDSP files shouldn't break the file type
setting as that's all down to the plugin. If the InguzDSP files were not
in the right place I'd just expect no sound.

I've sent you a PM with my email - it sounds like we need to continue
this offline!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2010-01-23 Thread sugarmonster

Thanks for the feedback. It's odd that your filetypes don't show, I'm
not sure what's going on there.

The inguzDSP executables are still inside the SS package (i.e same
location as the original doc). I've only changed the location of the
plugin files.

I'd like to move the DSP files out too but I'm not sure how possible
that will be, I'll need to try it and see what happens.

Which files/folders do you have to set the permissions on?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2010-01-22 Thread sugarmonster

I would recommend removing the existing SS install and starting with a
fresh one, only because I've changed where I install the plugin to so if
you just run the installer on a system with Inguz already installed you
might get it appearing twice.

Rather than copying the plugin to the "plugins" folder inside the SS
package, I install it to /Library/Application Support/Plugins which
seems cleaner to me and decouples the plugin from SS updates.

I'd like to get InguzDSP out of the SS package too (then it would
survive SS updates) but I'm not sure if that's possible. I'll need to do
some more playing with that.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] I've made an OSX installer for Inguz...

2010-01-20 Thread sugarmonster

For any Mac/Inguz users out there:

I got annoyed with manually installing the Inguz DSP stuff whenever I
changed/upgraded Slimserver so I've taken Muski's install document and
wrapped the stages up into a package.

The installer copies the DSP and plugin files to the appropriate
locations and creates a desktop shortcut to the impulses folder.
Restarting Slimserver and configuring the filetypes etc is still a
manual process.

It uses the latest versions of the plugin/DSP available from the Inguz
site and incorporates the changes suggested in this thread to make it
compatible with Squeezebox Server 7.4

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68618

Tested (by me) on a clean OSX 10.5.8 (i.e no previous slimserver). I
also gave it a run through on the last 7.5 nightly and it seemed to
work.

You can download it here:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz and 7.4

2010-01-18 Thread sugarmonster

No, but I have just finished knocking up a mac installer (package) for
7.4 / 10.5 if that's any use to anybody; it includes the fixes from this
thread, copies the latest files to the relevant places in the filesystem
and creates a desktop short cut to the data folder to make it easier to
work with.

I should be able to try it with 7.5 nightly tomorrow to see what
happens, although I'm still on 10.5 so no Snow Leopard testing I'm
afraid.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] silly newbie inguz question

2007-11-04 Thread sugarmonster

That's right. Inguz needs a fairly powerful PC to work it's magic. I've
run it on a 1.8Ghz core duo and it used about 20% of the CPU when it
was running. a NAS certainly wouldn't be able to run it.

I don't know about one of the low power green PCs but looking at the
specs of them I doubt it would work.
