Using a hacked API to make Amazon Prime Music available on SB might just
keep you under the radar as some of the plugins show.
Also monetizing on it puh... let's say: I would not do it

For what it's worth, my own experience, when I started around 2 years
ago developping for LMS and knew nothign about Perl either, the best is
to start from a good example (e.g. Qobuz) and use a lot the source code
of LMS, where there is also a lot of other plugins that are good
examples. The Technical Information in the help page also has some
helpful information, including on the Perl framework used for GUI. It
was a difficult learning curve for me, especially when I did the YouTube
porting to APIv3, but again, with the help of Michael, bpa and others,
things worked out. My recommendation is to write small pieces in Perl,
independently from LMS so that you can do unitary tests easily and don't
go mad at stopping/restarting LMS all the time, especially when you'll
have to deal with the Amazon API (maybe this is my own biais as I'm
still making a lot of mistakes in Perl)

Good luck!

This is a very interesting thread - anyone pursuing Amazon music
options? I have an extensive library given all the music I have bought.
If I didn't have so much to do (ramping up new job etc) this would be
just the project to bring out the programmer in me.

And if nothing happens soon, a few questions -

1. Is there an LMS Developer Wiki where on can learn some basics?
2. Has anyone monetized an LMS app successfully?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Amazon Prime Music, plugin possible?

2015-08-01 Thread cdmackay

I think the fact that it's now free to existing Prime subscribers makes
it much more interesting.

I suppose one could use a waveinput style plugin to access it on the
PC, and then make it available via LMS, possibly?

Would be nice to have direct access, though.

I'd be interested too.

I note that there is a Sonos plugin, so wonder if there is an API for
it.

My impression is they're moving away from that paradigm--quickly, too.
E.g., Prime Instant Video now works on all Android devices without
requiring weird fiddling around. And they will provide APIs for the Echo
(which, IMO, is a horrible product, but still). Etc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Amazon Prime Music, plugin possible?

2014-06-13 Thread anjenaire

Agreed that the Prime selection (1 million songs) is somewhat limited
... for now. If Amazon has proven anything is that they will continue to
add content to the service to drive Prime Membership. Now back to the OP
comment. I don't see anyway to currently create an app unless it comes
directly from Amazon. Without an API it isn't going to be possible.
Given the life-cycle of the Squeezebox I wouldn't hold my breath. I have
had some success using the web-based cloud player to send music playing
on my PCChrome browser to my home stereo via Chromecast. I was looking
to end the use of that device and receiver (I want to move the six hdmi
ports of that Pioneer receiver to my video viewing area and place back
in service my older Denon receiver with optical audio inputs). I
currently am running Squeezebox on a Raspberry Pi and would love to add
this service to the mix. If it doesn't come to pass I will stick with
Pandora.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Amazon Prime Music, plugin possible?

2014-06-12 Thread redondo_se

I don't see any API from a quick search. Just throwing this out there
as a possible new source of streaming music. The library is pretty
small right now, but maybe it will get better.

Library is pathetic, in classical and jazz it is just ridiculous. Google
Music is much better, not to mention Spotify (still geo-blocked, or
actually payment blocked in my country...) or qobuz.
