[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2008-12-22 Thread Dr Lovegrove
Just uploaded a new Moose to the usual places..

Mainly radio fixes and new partymode features:

* Playlist - Dragged of items from library windows can now be inserted
into the now playing playlist and visual feedback is given for the
insert position
* Tree - Radios/Music Services are now supported in a more generic
way, which means any new ones the server throws at moose should be
usable
* Tree - Support added for Radios/Music Services icons specified by
service rather than moose
* Tree - Some accented characters were mis-behaving in the tree window
with the latest server builds. This is now fixed.
* Cover chooser - In touchscreen mode, both right clicking, and
double-slow-left clicking brings up teh context menu
* PartyMode - New PartyMode tab in options window with various
party-mode specific settings (remove menus, try to limit damage users
can perform)
* PartyMode - Extended support to all library windows. Should be much
more usable now
* PartyMode - Key shortcut for toggling PartyMode added as "CTRL +
SHIFT + P" (focus may need to be on the now playing window for this to
work)

Enjoy,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-03-04 Thread docterry

I have been a big fan of Moose. I have recently been using a small
"netbook" computer (Acer Aspire One) as my Moose interface for
SqueezeCenter. Everything works fine, but for the life of me I cannot
get it to download any of the album cover art. The Acer is running
WinXP SP3 with .NET ver 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 sp1.

My music is stored on a server (QNAP TurboStation-109) on 192.168.0.50
in my LAN. The album art is embedded in each MP3 as I don't file the
MP3's by album. I have SC 7.3.2 running on the server (via flipflip's
SSODS). I have performed a "Clear library and rescan everything".

>From the Acer, everything in Moose works except the album art is not
downloaded. During a Moose rescan, the album art does not show any
cover thumbnails as I would expect.

On our older Dell laptop, this works perfectly fine and all cover art
is downloaded, using the same Moose070.

My wife's Acer also does not download cover art. The funny thing is, I
had previously used the Acer as a little SqueezeBox "remote control",
and all cover art was downloaded before (previous version).

I'm pulling my hair out on this one. Help!

For album art, make sure port 9000's open on the moose-machine firewall..
If everything else is working, that's pretty much the only thing I
can think it
would be, especially if it's not even working on the now playing window..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-03-13 Thread indypants

DrLovegrove, I've just discovered Moose, and it absolutely wipes the
floor with SqueezeCenter - well done. I could kick myself for not
finding it sooner. Fantastic work.

If I was being greedy (and I am!), these two things would be high on my
wish-list for future improvements, and I'm sure they would win you even
more fans:

1) I'd love the ability to search for a list of words, and for those
words to be matched seperately in any order against any tag, including
comments and genre, and using a logical "AND". This is how Winamp's
media library works, and I know many people regard this as it's most
powerful feature (if only it could stream to the SB).

2) When searching, it would be really nice if the song results pane was
organised in exactly the same way as the now-playing panel - with the
same customisable columns. At the moment its hard to tell which of the
resulting songs are by which artists without individually selecting
them.

Once again, an excellent bit of software - please Keep it up.
I genuinely think this is the best thing that's happened to the
SqueezeBox.

2009-03-13 Thread paltomare

I too just discovered Moose, it is a big improvement over SC.

I am having difficulty in two areas.

First, I have about 4500 albums, I have Moose using my Slim database
but when it scans for albums it always stops at 2052 albums. Is that
Moose's limit?

Second, I cannot get all of my album art to display, in fact only about
10 albums do. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any ideas anyone?

2009-03-14 Thread MeSue

I have been playing around with Moose and SqueezeSlave today, but having
a couple of problems I hope someone can help with.

I have it configured to start Squeezeslave with -O (--oldplayer) which
is needed to enable smart gain. The only problem is it plays one song
and then stops. I also tried it with no arguments and the default
arguments, and it still stops at the end of a song. How can I get it to
continue through my playlist?

When Hot Keys is enabled in the tray icon, it takes over Ctrl-F which
is used for find in many programs. Is there a list of what all the hot
keys are somewhere, and can they be changed?

Hi Indypants, cool name, so glad you like it.. :-)

Yes, actually regex searching's been on my to do list for quite a while now.
It will get done though. Be rather handy.

Incidentally the searching feature does search some tags, although not
all. Trouble is the more tags i add support for, the larger moose's cached
data gets, so the slower moose gets.

YES ! Actually that was one of the reasons I recently re-coded the
playlist control. Only downside would be the tracks wouldnt be displayed
across the control, only down. Probably not a major issue. Actually I could
provide a view-mode for it.

No, as with squeezecentre, moose has no real limits (within easy reach anyhow)
I think the thumbnail scanning number's the number of artists.. I'd
have to check
on that.. Have you noticed any albums missing ?

Do you have port 9000 open on the moose machine (presuming the server's on
a different machine) ? The 10 albums it has thumbnails for are problem obtained
via amazon, rather that SC.. It grabs a few each time it scans..

Not sure about the squeezeslave issue - one for ralphy or someone..

The whole Hot keys support needs a re-write really.. The HotKeys currently
supported are +P, +S, +F, +B. Also F8,F9 and F10.
These are the same as ms media centre, which used to have global keys
rather than focus-based keys..

The supported MediaKeys are Play, Stop, Next, Previous, Mute, VolUp and
VolDown. Again, these are global, but that's probably more sense.

Thanks for the feedback Dr Lovegrove.

I did notice not all artists appear in Moose, I seem to have
enverything up to the letter P.

I do have 9000 open but Moose and SC are on the same machine, does it
matter?

So I should keep doing a manual scan until it grabs all album art from
Amazon?

Thanks, pa

Ahh, yes, sounds like a problem then.. How old's your server build ? Is it
an official release, or a nightly ?

One thing that usually fixes artwork and scanning issues is a complete SC wipe
and rescan. Might be worth giving that a go.

There's also the fast-scan flag in the settings. You could try flipping that..

> I do have 9000 open but Moose and SC are on the same machine, does it
> matter?

Moose uses port 9000 to access the server's web interface, from which
it gets artwork. If the server and client are on the same machine, I
wouldnt have though you'd need it open, but it's possible..

Does the artwork in the now-playing window work ok ? (again this will
default to amazon grabbing if there is a problem getting artwork from
the server - you can check where the artwork came from via right-clicking
the now playing artwork and selecting the info item)

> So I should keep doing a manual scan until it grabs all album art from
> Amazon?

No, it should grab all the artwork from SC.. The amazon grabbing's just
a little extra feature that fills in SC's blanks.. It's quite slow
grabbing from
amazon, and some of their artwork's incorrect, so using it as a main source
is a bad idea.

It's possible turning on moose's logging system and doing a scan will
throw something up. Feel free to send me log files privately if you want
me to have a look.

2009-03-16 Thread nacmacfeegle

Hi DrL, I'm running Moose on a wee netbook (Samsung NC10)and it looks
great, this acts as a nice posh remote for the main server. Everything
is just tickety-boo, but for the life of me I can't access Napster from
the tree view (or at all via moose). When I click on services>napster, I
get the 'hold on' stopwatch icon, then a blank page. Napster is working
fine via a Squeezecenter, and the IR squeeze remotes and I get napster
album art on Moose's now playing window.
I'm running xp on the server and NC10, and SC version 7.3.3.

Apart from this one wee glitch, I'm loving the Moose in my Hoose, so
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not tried napster with the treeview.. I'll give it a go.. All these services
return the same information in slightly different ways, so moose'll probably
need a tweak..

Thanks for looking into this, for what its worth, none of the services

Squeezeslave had worked for me before, so I thought it was a Moose
issue, but now I tried Squeezeslave without Moose in the picture and it
does the same thing. I also learned it doesn't scrobble, so I will just
use SoftSqueeze instead. I got it minimizing to the tray so that is
fine.

Are you planning to eventually support launching SqueezePlay with
Moose?

There's nothing like typing in "jar coc" and knowing it will find
everything by "jarvis cocker", even if your tags say "cocker jarvis".
Finding music quickly was something that never seemed to be part of
SqueezeCenter's remit!

Fair comment, and to be honest, this particular request stems from a
selfish interest of mine, in that, long before I got the SB3, I started
using the genre field to store my own customised ratings and mood
information. I copied all this into the comments tag when I realised
that SqueezeCenter couldn't search Genres, but guess what? It can't
search comments either! At least, not very well. It searches for an
entire phrase rather than words, and can't handle special characters
like asterisks. It would be nice if there was at least one customisable
field that could be searched by Moose. pretty please?

I for one would be more than happy with that. Believe it or not, I
actually prefer a list going down the page. Then again, I may be
strange in this respect :-)

A rescan of SC seemed to work as far as Moose now being able to see all

Same here and it's not only Napster it happens with all services within
the Online Radio / Music Services tree. I run SC 7.3.3 (latest build) on
Ubuntu 8.04 and Moose on a Samsung NC10 Windows XP.

But the rest is fantastic :)

Dr Lovegrove, there is a new "noweb-sqlite" beta branch of SC 7.4

move to the SQlite branch until I can make sure that Moose,
earland's/other plugins and MusicIP work with this new branch.

Sadly not, the new 7.4 nightlies wont work with Moose's library scanning
functions.. I'm looking into a way round the issues, but it's not likely to
be a simple weekend fix..

Be careful if you've got recent nightlies too as they download and offer to
install the latest versions..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2008-12-22 Thread tamanaco

Excellent upgrade... thanks again. I installed 0.70 on my wife's HP tx2z
notebook before she left for work and the touch-hold on the album covers
now emulates right-clicks as expected. I did not get to play much with
the touch interface as she had to leave, but the resizing of the album
art in touch view was still not working as expected.

A problem that I found with my setup, because I still use the
"unsuported" MyRadio Plugin, is that the AlienBBC icon replaces
MyRadio and AlienBBC gets the generic Radio Icon. The AlienBBC tree
view expands as expected, but when I expand the AlienBBC Live Streams
branch... most of the items within it are branches instead of leaves.
If I click on any of these branches I get the Hold on... message.

Another much appreciated update.

I have another request. Would it be a big job to get Moose to display
artwork with correct aspect ratio? A lot of my artwork is not perfectly
square and ends up being squashed or stretched to fit in the artwork
window.

Thanks

Ahh, good point.. Yeah, I'll have a go at sorting that..

I have downloaded/installed Moose 0.70 but I am unable to get the
playlist feature to work as described in the release notes above. The
playlist window remains blank when I try to drag and drop songs/albums
into it.

I do get a Moose "undo" item in the playlist window in the Squeeze
Center.

I am using XP (SP3) - SqueezeCenter 7.3 (beta)

Any suggestions?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-01-19 Thread jwka

Hi,

I do not see any MP3 file in Moose if the Album field of the MP3 Tags
is empty.

Although Squeezeserver support s this by showing "no Album" as the
album title,
Moose does not show such files - neitehr in the cover chooser nor in
the Trees.

Is there any switch or parameter I have not set correctly?

Another bug I discovered is that cover changes on the SC had not been
reflected in the cover chooser until I deleted the thumbs folder and
recanned.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-01-25 Thread Kvaks

I just installed Moose, and this looks like an excellent program. It may
well become my preferred way to control my Squeezebox.

A couple of questions, though.

1. Is there a way to set up keyboard shortcuts that -aren't- the Media
Center ones? What I'd really like is global hotkeys (ie. when Moose
doesn't have window focus) that use the WIN key (eg. WIN+p for
pause/play, WIN++ and WIN+- for volume, WIN+o to bring up the OSD to
see what's playing).

2. Is there any way to have Moose use SC's Custom Browse menus by
Erland's plugin? Some of those are really useful, I going to miss them
if they aren't accessible from Moose.

I'm not home, so I can not test it. I think that if you run your
Squeezebox and Moose with SqueezeSlave as independent player and you're
able to sync both players... it "might" work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-02-02 Thread mr-b

Hi

I've just started to use Moose 0.70 in earnest and I'm finding a much
faster way to navigate my music library (than the SC web UI). I hit a
couple of issues though.

1) I can only seem to view Artists names in the Library Names tab (and
the setup web page indicates that Albums should also be listed). In the
Tree tab under Library, only an Artists folder is displayed whereas
under Server both Artists and Albums folder are present. I've rescanned
my SC lib and Moose prompted to rebuild it's own library again but with
no difference.

2) My Now Playing tab doesn't look like
http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove/nowplaying069.png. It just has
the bottom pane of tracks, length, Format etc. and not the top two
panes of cover art & track progress. Cover art displays fine though on
the tray pop-up.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

So can anyone confirm or deny that Albums should be listed under the

Hey, sorry, been away...

In the Treeview the Library section should only contain Artists. It's on my list
to add albums and things, although I've been working more on the server
node recently..

In the Library tab you should get artists and albums side-by side with tracks
below. If the artist/album splitter's dragged to the far right you wont actually
see the albums - it's not that that's causing the problem ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.70 (windows frontend)

2009-02-06 Thread mr-b

Tx for the clarification. It was the web site which led me to believe
that both were listed (in the same list), along with the left-hand tab
being labelled "Names" rather than "Artists". (The latter would help
clarify what is where etc. as Names is a bit vague).

While we're on the tabs, IMO it'd help if the rather ambiguous "Date"
was extended to "Last Modified" or "Last Updated". Similar with "Rnd".
I know tooltips explains the label if you have the Moose window active,
but that's almost verging on "Mystery Meat Navigation" territory! ;-)
http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/mysterymeatnavigation.html

Also I've only just realised that the search function applies to lots
of metadata e.g. artists, albums, tracks (and tags?). I didn't before
since the search field was just positioned over the artist pane. Again
a clear label would help new users a lot.

It would be cool though at some point to have a cached Album list under
Tree, as I'm finding the super-fast response times addictive! :-)
