Sorry I wasn't clear enough the first two times but your efforts are

You have basically described part of the function of Erland's
MultiLibrary plug-in. You need that and Custom Browse - see Erland's
guides, it does exactly what you want.

2009-02-10 Thread Murph

Thank You Listener. Erlands tools are EXACTLY what i was looking for.
It took me two nights to get it all set up but it is accomplishing that
which I wanted to do.

Erland, he wasn't kidding when he said you were active. The instant
response with links to the guide is very much appreciated. Wonderful
tools! Very much deserving of a donation as soon as I remember my
dusty Paypal details.

I do have one question remaining after setting up and tweaking for
classical browsing as per your guide. All of my level 1 entries are
showing up twice in both my web GUI and on my SB.

For instance, if I choose Classical Works by Composer
all of the composers are listed twice.
Bach
Bach
Beethoven
Beethoven
etc.

The resulting sub-menus are the same regardless of which one I pick.
Level 2 and 3 entries do not have a similar duplication.

In another example, if I choose Classical Works by Conductor
all of the conductors names appear in the list twice.

I have reviewed my custom browse settings and can not discover the
cause. I'm betting I made an obvious error somewhere and would
appreciate any assistance.

Even with the duplication, this is sooo much better than before.
Thanks again everyone!

Did you configure COMPOSER and CONDUCTOR as a tag in the Custom Tag
scannning module settings in the Custom Scan plugin ?

If you did, you should probably remove these two tags from the Tags to
scan attribute in the Custom Tag settings because they will also be
scanned by the standard SqueezeCenter scanner.

An alternative is to empty the Composer tags and Conductor tags
attributes in the Mixed Tag scanning module settings but I think you
probably want to remove them from the Custom Tag scanning modules
instead.

Thanks Kesey,

I played with Moose over the weekend and it does allow me to access
separate libraries (classical, everything else) from the Squeezebox.
Setup wasn't extremely intuitive but it's fine once it's working.
Visitors might not catch on to the separate library list on the the
Squeezebox but I can live with that. I still need to tweak to get it to
show alternate fields for classical.

Muso looks much more intuitive. However, I don't see from the
description or screen shots that it modifies how I access the library
directly from my Squeezebox. It appears to be a PC control solution
only but I'm not sure. I will give it a try to find out.

Murph, I think that given your requirement to work from the Squeezebox,
the best thing is to do a tag cleanup yourself. I would suggest
downloading mp3tag from http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

It is very easy to use, and you can specify easily the various genres
of music you wish to categorise, to any depth you wish to go. The more
detail you give it e.g. Symphony, Opera, wind, percussion, strings,
choral or whatever the more you will be able to drill down with the
Squeezebox.

Once you have done your tagging you will need to do a rescan on
Squeezecenter so that it knows that you have updated the files. A Look
for new and changed music will do the job for a small no. of changes,
and will allow you to check things as you go along. After a large
tagging session though I would do a Clear library and rescan
everything.

2009-02-09 Thread kesey

No problem at all. I did not see the depth or direction you wanted to
go...

What I was getting at with the tagging suggestion was a derivative of
Linnaean classification. Using mp3tag you could add extra
(self-generated) tags in (e.g. Conductor, Orchestra, Soloist, Location
of Recording etc.) which you might or might not choose to use later.
These additions would add to the information already stored in your
tags and hopefully allow wider search mechanisms by some means possibly
yet to be unearthed:-)

Good luck with the endeavours: the more detail we get, and the more
avenues we explore the better.

If you aren't using the Custom browse and Custom Scan plug-ins, you
should check them out. You can design your own menus to browse the
sequence of tags that you need. I think that the plugins also allow
for multiple libraries. The author Erland is active on these forums
and especially the 3rd party plugins forum.

My library is 70% classical so I understand your concerns. I agree with
your analysis of what is needed.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Best for viewing classical music seperately

2009-02-05 Thread Murph

Hi folks,
It has been a while. My lack of posting is actually a tribute to how
well my Squeezebox is working. I do have a question though.

I am interested in thoughts on the 'best' way to treat classical music
separately from all other genres. I know it's an old question and my
searches have found some tools, such as Moose, in order to do this but
I remain unsure as to what is the best method.

Essentially, I want to exclude classical from my main list so it does
not come up during listening to all randomized. I enjoy all forms of
music but find classical just doesn't fit in when randomly playing
other genres.

Also, when browsing the classical list, I'd like to be able to do it by
fields other than artist. I won't get into the naming convention
dilemma for classical music as I mostly have that settled for myself.
Mostly...

In the spirit of helping oneself before asking questions, I'm going to
download Moose tonight to try it out first but all advice on plug ins
and methods of setting them up for this need would be greatly
appreciated.

Have a look at Muso. It is really nice, and easy to use.
http://klarita.net/muso.html

You could set up separate tags, or possibly just make sure your genres
are tagged correctly.
