IMHO the key word here is "better" Replace this with "preferable" or "different" and there might be some substance to different people "hearing" differently. Moode and Volumio use MPD and LMS SqueezeOS (and emulaters thereof) to produce the sound (this my understanding, and not a definitive statement:p) There are people who like Moode / Volumio more than LMS, some who like Squeezelite more through Moode than LMS. One person I know, on another forum, told me that he preffered Moode to LMS because he was "cursed with perfect pitch" and that Moode worked for him and LMS did not. When I first tried Moode, about v3, I found its presentation of music different to LMS in a more detailed and (faster) dynamic way (if my memory is correct). I did not take notes, did not double blind test or ensure the volume was level matched. I did not pronounce it "better", or "best". My suggestion is that you try for yourself and back your own judgement and settle for that :):) ronnie Cables, power supplies and output stages are also, IMO, best served by the empirical experience of the user :):p Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115641 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Just wondered > if anybody has experience? The server just does that -- it 'serves' the file to the player. There may be differences in functionality (UI, etc), but so long as the server provides the bits efficiently, as far as native formats go, there will be no difference in sound quality. And even with server-transcoded formats, unless there's something woefully lacking in the code, I doubt most people would detect a difference. There *may* be differences due to how the bits get from the server to the player -- WiFi, wired, USB, BT, etc -- due to factors like electrical-noise interference. That said, you'll find enough contradictory opinions out there about which medium is better/best to suggest there's not really much underlying difference. The player -- the DAC -- the thing that turns bits into analog signal -- is what counts. At the risk of a crude analogy, it's like editing a document file that's stored on a file server. It doesn't matter what OS the file server is running on, it's the word processor (player) you use to edit (play) the document (audio file) that will make any difference that matters. Same conclusions than yourself, good players do their main job, play the audio file and mange the database. I'm running LMS on Daphile. And I have a ROON CORE server. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Different music servers
I realise LMS is a popular music server and Ive been reading up on alternative ones like Moode and Volumino. Many folks suggest everything else being equal (e.g. hardware) the sound from other servers seem better. Now if its bit perfect to to each server, can software really introduce differences, especially of the file is played native i.e. Flac, ALAc etc Im not convinced in theory - not experimented myself yet. Just wondered if anybody has experience?
