Yes.
Otherwise you would have to install in two places.
Also I AM sure it didn't work any other way until a few months ago
since I tried to keep different versions of the templates under
different names and couldn't. Would have to try again

Do you mean you're installing iPeng templates in Plugins/iPeng/HTML instead of
HTML directly?

OK, you're right, seems to have changed.
Problem is, you have to know what you do when taking the distribution
apart and all other platforms don't have that. So it's not a good
workaround from a plugin distribution perspective.

I'm confused because I've yet to find a plugin that doesn't work when
placed in:library-application support-squeezecenter-plugins.

Ipeng also works in this configuration as long as you move the skins to
the HTML folder.

Is it possible that certain plugins can work in either location?

Yes, I have noticed some unusual behavior too with navigating to a
folder, though I did a full system restart yesterday, and have not seen
the problem since then.

I described the problem here, but there were no responses, so I figured
no one else had experienced it.

All users as well.

As I use iPeng, I tend to install plugins to the folder specified by
it.

BTW, has anyone encountered scanning issues (full scan, recscan for
new/changed music does not work, navigating to a folder and playing an
album does work) since going to 7.1?

I don't want to sidetrack this thread, so if you have had any problems

All users. But as mentioned a few times: the problem is with those
plugins that you CANNOT move to Application Support

I've never lost any plugins on my server, and it's been running for
almost two years continuous. The only change was obviously from 6 to 7
when they all moved to 'App Support'. I tend to download the latest
nightly once a week or more and have never seen this.

Are you guys installing for ALL USERS on just the user that's currently
running/logged in?

Skins that don't need acces to a skin can go to

Code:

Library/Application Support/Squeezecenter/html

Plugins that don't need to provide their own skin (that is: more than
their plugin files, like iPeng does) can go to

Code:

Library/Application Support/Squeezecenter/Plugins

but plugins that provide a skin that needs access to the plugin code
(e.g. iPeng) need to go into

Code:

/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Plugins/

At least that one gets wiped.Maybe the whole behavior is worth filing a
bug, maybe the best workaround would be to enable plugins in

Code:

Library/Application Support/Squeezecenter/Plugins

to provide their own skin...

Yes please do file a bug report. It's not that difficult to recopy
wiped out plugins after an upgrade, but it would be nicer not having to
do this. And this problem does not exist on Windows/Linux, so I guess
it should not happen on a mac either.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.1 Update deleted all plugins on OS X

2008-08-08 Thread chrisinparis

My experience is the same as Pippin's - plugins always get wiped.

Look on the status page of SC - there it lists all the folder that SC
checks for plugins. As Pippin, says some plugins do not work in all
folders (this was the case for LazySearch and iPeng IIRC).

Currently I copy all my plugins into the folder recommended by iPeng.
Not sure if is the "right" folder (as plugins get wiped out by new
installs), but everything works and it's quick to copy my plugins after
the end of the install.

Always happens to me when I update SC on Mac.
Maybe it's different whether you use the "Plugins" folder in the
"Library" path or in the "Application Support" section. Although with
the latter some plugins won't work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.1 Update deleted all plugins on OS X

For some reason your installation is wiping out that plugins folder.
this didn't occur with my installation of 7.1 from 7.02. I'm running
osx 10.5.4.

also there's been a nice change in the squeezecenter software in that
if you delete your cache folder all of your settings still remain
intact. in the past when I deleted my cache folder all of my settings
would evaporate as well.
