Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Idea for a plugin - 'Now Playing' to wifi picture frame
Hi Sorry to hijack this thread but is there any digital frame hat allows for pictures to be shared across multiple screens (2x2 matrix displaying 1 image OR 1 image sliding across multiple screens? It seems such an obvious feature but I've not been able to find it. -- Kaizen28 Kaizen28's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5953 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Here's another nice-looking, not-yet-available product, courtesy of the slashdot rumor mill: ht tp://i.gizmodo.com/5162584/always-innovating-touch-book-is-part+netbook-part+tablet-open-source-frankenstein 8.9", 1024x768 screen, runs Linux on ARM, not only detachable from the keyboard/base, but apparently supposed to be available for purchase without the keyboard/base. And it's touchscreen. Maybe this company will have more luck shipping actual product than GeCube and Elonex seemed to have. 'would be nice, as this looks like a more attractive product than what GeCube and Elonex had announced. (Hmm, it's designed bt Fred Bould, same guy who worked on all the Squeezeboxes starting with the Squeezebox v3/Squeezebox Classic -- ht tp://www .alwaysinnovating.com/touchbook/) Somebody email me if this thing actually ships! For the impatient DIY type, that product appears to be based on a beagleboard.org motherboard. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I don't have such a frame, but my sister does. She says when you send photos to the email address, there is quite a delay before it is displayed. I don't know about the time frame if you are taking pictures directly from your computer. -- Kyle Kyle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2541 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

If the frame could display a repeating slideshow with the images having HTTP URLs, that could work pretty well. The plugin might not even have to update anything -- plugins can deliver web content with URLs like http://yourserver:9000/plugins/PicFrame/image1.jpeg If the frame were well-designed, it would use & respect HTTP cache-control, if-modified-since, etag, etc. headers and would only need to pull a new image when the song changed. A couple sites have suggested the GeCube Genie PC (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/334/C14763/) will only cost about $250 USD. For that price, I'd likely buy one & try it out (first item to do: hide that logo on the facade!). For the $450 USD that mobilemag, Gizmodo, and others have suggested, I'd pass. Given that the similar Elonex One (http://www.elonexone.co.uk/) is supposed to sell for 100 GBP (~ $200 USD), there's hope for a $250 Genie. -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver FuzzyTime PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Idea for a plugin - 'Now Playing' to wifi picture frame
I think it is a great idea. Instead of pushing to the frame, one workaround would be to set an photo album of only 2 pictures and set the slide show time to the shortest. The plugin just need to keep updating the 2 pictures. The photo frame would then get it automatically. Even cooler would be for the plugin to change the background of the picture every so often to replace the slide show function. -- Honva Honva's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14948 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Idea for a plugin - 'Now Playing' to wifi picture frame
Good point - however the estirling ones say they have a dedicated email address so I'd imagine they would display as soon as they received it - unless of course the address is on their server and the frame has to periodically poll it. Not seen them first-hand though. -- mikeselectricstuff mikeselectricstuff's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Idea for a plugin - 'Now Playing' to wifi picture frame
The biggest problem I've seen with those photo frames is that most do not support having pictures "pushed" to them. Not only that, but there's usually very little pre-sales documentation on how frequently they will "pull" from the network. Nobody wants a Now Playing display that could be minutes behind the music. You're probably better off using a laptop or tablet as the basis of a frame running a normal OS like Linux or Windows that could then display a simplified Web interface or perhaps run the desktop SqueezeOS/Jive app. It looks like a couple vendors are about to sell 7" widescreen tablets with detachable keyboards that could easily be used for this. -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver FuzzyTime PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46617 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
