ok, now I accidentally found a download of Moose (0.73) for Windows,
and managed to set it up to control a server, which is on a different
computer. There is no sign of spotify anywhere in Moose although
spotify works quite well from server or from squeezeremote.

The whole point was to find a controlling software that is good for
handling an endless library. Without spotify the squeezeremote is ok.

How can Logitech fail to see Sonos and Squeezebox as direct,
head-to-head competitors?

Anyone (barring millionaires and perhaps audiophiles)looking for a
digital music solution for their home basically have two options: Sonos
and Squeeze. One may have advantages in some respects and the other in
other respects. But they are similar enough in functionality and price
to be direct competitors!!

As far as I can see, Logitech is squandering away their purchase.
As far as I remember there have only been two items of news regarding
Squeeze within the last year: Touch was finally released and Wimp made
an agreement for streaming to SB in Norway. Oh yeah and Radio got a
white cabinet for one production round.
How long can the product line remain in top two with that kind of
effort?

Sorry to so negative, but I'm really loosing faith.

I bet we could give them a lot of hints, the problem is that we (or at

they don't pickup marketing ideas from this forum, so just posting it

Just thought that maybe right now some marketing guys sit down and
think on how to react on Sonos being on the news all the time with

As they don't have any new news :D ... maybe right now is the right

This would be great but unfortunately I suspect there isn't anyone
within Logitech marketing/management that sees the potential with third
party stuff. They have this great asset in an active third party
community and they don't show much interest to keep it active.

The Logitech developers cares a lot and probably also MickeyG but
besides that I have barely seen any indication that anyone else cares
since Sean/Dean left the company.

It's not about money because they could do a lot to encourage third
party contributions without spending a lot of money, they would even
benefit from it themselves by selling more hardware and also make it
more interesting for third parties to contribute. I'm pretty sure the
problem is that they haven't understood the potential with third party
stuff. Remember that before the Slim Devices purchase Logitech wasn't
really used to working with third party developers/contributors. Back
then I thought the purchase was strategic and a main reason was the
community based development model, but I'm not so sure anymore.

That's one of them and the other is having to tell it what you want
docked and what you want to use in the connected department. Maybe I am
just spoiled by iPeng with it finding everything and all I have to do is
use it as a Controller while enjoying the music.

I also didn't care for how crowded some things seemed or how far I had
to drill down on other things. Again probably spoiled by iPeng.

I think the one weak thing about it was not enough consumer user
feedback yet.

The only pc applications I can find seem to be pretty old versions with
not so flashy interfaces, nothing comparable to iPeng or Squeezepad,
and you have to be a programmer to install them.

So when you get tired of trying to build playlists or do searches with
the controller, and you want an easy to use graphical interface on a
pc-based pad or laptop, what do you do?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sonos iPad app (free)

2010-09-29 Thread pippin

Maybe I should elaborate.
I'm serious about this.
I also don't say iPeng is better. The two apps are different in some
respects and to a certain degree they reflect the different systems
they are made for.
The Sonos app may be a bit more simple to understand in the first place
and multiple-player handling may still have an edge but there are also
aspects where it completely sucks such as playlist building and digging
through your library (you have to re-start again each time you need to
go to NowPlaying). It also has a very deep menu structure.
Graphics is also not really a strong point of the Sonos app, the covers
you gat are tiny.

I'm particularly disappointed about the iPad version, they make very
bad use of the screen space, IMHO, but that may be a personal taste
thing, I think similarly about SqueezePad in that respect.
