I had no intention of misleading people. It never occurred to me that anyone would be misled (to be honest, I'd be surprised if even 10% of people running Tarsnap look at the LICENSE file). Somewhere along the line a breed of 'BSD licences' came into being that have a 'misplaced modifier' in them. We don't use any code that has that an english error called a 'misplaced modifier'; giving the sentence two potential meanings. We contacted tens of developers and asked them to replace the 'misplaced modifier'. All of them obliged except the xntpd developers. One word can change the meaning of a sentence. You failed at what you intended, and you also confused people. You're the only person who has ever told me that the Tarsnap license is confusing. Maybe everybody else was confused but didn't want to admit it. In any case, I'm happy to change the license text to make it clearer; how do you think here's some code for you to use to access the Tarsnap service; that's the only thing you're allowed to use it for should be phrased? -- Colin Percival Security Officer, FreeBSD | freebsd.org | The power to serve Founder / author, Tarsnap | tarsnap.com | Online backups for the truly paranoid My point of confusion is that since distributing modified source code is forbidden (as I read it), does this not prevent the distribution of patches needed to make it work? This would seem to give me personally the right to fix your code to work on my OS, but not the right to tell anyone else how to do the same. This seems to eliminate much of the point of providing source. And make it very difficult to provide tarsnip via the ports tree. It sounds more like the qmail, etc. situation than anything else. Ken
Re: New: www/mongrel2 1.5

I borrowed Benoit Chesneau's submission from November of last year, using tedu@'s recommendation of zeromq as the port/package name. As for zeromq, it builds fine on sparc64/ppc. You might want to simplify the port by only patching configure and not depending on autoconf.. i'm not sure the stdint chunk is needed in the patch. Tested on amd64 and i386. This may possibly run on powerpc, if someone could check it there that would be great. Currently, I set ONLY_FOR_ARCH = i386 amd64 as there is some assembly code. It doesnt build on ppc/sparc64, due to that missing asm :) zeromq/sqlite3 should be LIB_DEPENDS, not BUILD/RUN_DEPENDS. Landry
Re: autoconf/m4 [was Re: New www/libmicrohttpd]
Sorry for the lack of information from my part. I've duly noted your work. I just need to spend a few hours looking really hard at the standards, the code, checking what other compliant m4 say about translit, and then incorporate your patch. I did know it was a problem with translit(), but I had absolutely no time tracking it down, so this helps a lot, and I'll be sure to fix m4 and autoconf=2.65 soon. Thanks

www/ruby-typo maintainership
Good news everyone, I'm dropping ruby-typo support as I no longer use it. The version in our tree is currently broken and the upgrade requires the following new ports: bluecloth aruba rubypants typographic typography typogruby If anyone wants to pick it up and make this port useful again I'll happily handle maintainership and help out when needed. Otherwise I'll remove it from the tree. When the port got broken nobody said anything, so I don't expect anyone to pick it up but just as well I'll leave it in the tree for a week. Call it optimism.
