Thanks too all and another question

2002-07-14 Thread Gary E Davis

Hi

Just a little thank you to all.. You've helped me a great deal. My other
question is My 3400 has 48 meg of Ram with a 2gig drive and the 240Mhz CPU.
I'm running 8.6 and wonder if I should go to 9.1 or would it be worth it
performace wise.

Thanks

Gary

Simple, you get a PCMCIA modem card that has the appropriate connector

then hunt down that solid gold encrusted with diamonds one of a kind
cable for your cell phone (if it supports it) (Most cell manufacturers,

Plug everything together, and dial out from anywhere you can get a cell

I was fortunate enough to find a stash of 3Com Megahertz Cellular 56K modems
at a flea market, Model 3CXM556. X-Jack, but no cellular cable. The cables
are available from 3Com.

$25.

Searched through 3Com's site to find their USR sub-site, found the latest
firmware and its FLASHER, and I was in business.

56K X-Jack ... highly recommended (cellular or not).

duo ethernet

2002-07-14 Thread Frank Modica

I've been trying to connect my duo 2300 to my 6100 through ethernet but
haven't had any luck. I just reinstalled 8.0 (will update to 8.1 later) on
the Duo and I'm running 8.1 on the 6100. The problem is with Appletalk.
When I open the Appletalk control panel and click on the pull-down menu for
Conect Via... I only have three choices: Remote Only, Printer Port, and
Modem Port. On the 6100 there is a fourth option for Ethernet. I'm guessing
that I'm probably missing an extension, but I've compared the Duo extension
set with the 6100 set and don't see any discrepancies. Here are the
ethernet related extensions that I have: Apple Built-In Ethernet, Apple
Ethernet CD, Apple Ethernet CSII, Apple Ethernet LC, Apple Ethernet NB, and
EtherTalk Phase Two. I'm using the Asante EN/SC Micro SCSI Adapter to
create my network. I dragged the Asante extension from my old system folder
to the new folder.

I know that I can connect the duo with the 6100 via SCSI Disk mode as well
as with a printer cable. SCSI Disk Mode is how I finally got 8.0 installed
on the duo once I got all my SCSI connections straight. But I'd like
ethernet so I can directly connect the duo to my iMac at work. I have a
small hub that has connected my venerable 170 with the iMac, so I can't
wait to get the duo connectable.

WTB: Wallstreet upgrades...

I am cross-posting this to the PowerBooks and LEM Swap lists, for dear
friends who've just arrived from the South Pacific for a few weeks vacation

scoop:

They have a Wallstreet with 64 mb RAM, MacOS 8.5 -- and they are looking for

a couple of batteries for the Wallstreet and (perhaps) another A/C adapter.

Suggestions?

What do you have and what do you need for it?

Re: WTB: Wallstreet upgrades...

2002-07-14 Thread Christopher Kolp

Supposedly you can put up to 512MB of ram in it if you
use special low profile chips. Those are available from
www.macsales.com for a pretty good price.

What speed WallStreet? The WallStreet Series II is the oldest
notebook officially supported by Apple to run OSX. They can
upgrade to 9.2.2 or OSX.

As far as a CD-R/CD-RW, I read somewhere that MCE made
a CD-RW drive for the WallStreets bay but that was a long
time ago and most people that made accessories for it
no longer do.

A DVD player was a factory option (on series II) when they
were sold new. You can purchase the drives and a PCMCIA
decoder card from pbparts.com for a couple hundred bucks.
This is not compatible with OSX but works fine with 9.x.

They can also do some processor upgrades!
Sonnet makes a G3/500 upgrade for the series II wallstreets
for $299.00 and PowerLogix has a G4/500 upgrade for the
series II for $499.00 available at www.macsales.com

Good luck!

Chris

I do it fairly often with my Motorola Timeport P280. The only slight issue
is they don't have specific Mac drivers for it, so I have to select the
terminal dial and manually ATDT it. Works well enough at a whopping 9600

No real clue about the Nokia 252c. If it's not specifically mentioned in
the phone's documentation, it probably can't do it. Mine actually responds
like a real modem would when plugged into the serial port (IE, AT returns
OK, it has various ATI strings, and I can ATDT dial it manually to my ISP).
Slow, but functional :)
