Re: 1400 woes

2002-11-28 Thread John McGibney
Try deleting the Sonnet software and using the PowerLogix G3/G4 Cache
profiler or NuPower G3 controller for the G3 chip. IIRC Sonnet's software
was the one that had problems with OS 8.6 and 9.1 on 1400's. Also I think
the cache should be a 2:1 ratio for best stability.

Hey Tom (and all),
Thanks for the tips. I did downgrade my Sonnet software from 1.4.8 to 1.4.5
and now things seem A-OK. If it lasts, that's a a fix! Thanks again, M

Re: 1400 woes

2002-11-28 Thread aly
I've a nupower G3 upgrade, in two machines, actually, and have noticed a similar
intermittent problem but cannot identify a pattern. (I thought for a while it
only happened after I was online with the Farallon card, but I do not see how
that could be making the difference!) Neither seemed to do this before we
upgraded to G3 (oh, and 60 and 64 M RAM). We have to be very careful to make
*sure* our machines sleep and shut off when we ask them to. (When they do not,
it's a nightmare I won't go into). Each one has had the experience of being
closed shut for more than a day yet still "on" -- on the verge of overheating.
Yipes! If you find out anything about what kind of conflict really could be
causing this hang (sometimes they do the same when they start up cold or from
sleep, but it isn't often too long... we run OS 8.1) I would also like to hear.
Good luck! As you already know, it's a great machine otherwise! Congrats!

Hi

I've seen problems with certain makes of HD and also an incompatabity
between RAM and the HD (a Fujitsu HD caused problems ONLY with certain RAM
cards in).

HTH

Hey all,
My new (to me) 1400cs w/ Sonnet G3 466 upgrade 64MB RAM seems to hang just
about every time I try to put it to sleep, or, if it does get to sleep, it
hangs before a complete wake up. I just upgraded to OS 9.1 from 8.5 to see
if the problem would go away. No change. Also no difference between Sonnet
and old 117mhz processor. It happens w/ both. Any ideas? Thanks, M
