Civilization Call to power

2004-02-09 Thread Darkwolf45
I'm using a PB 1400c witha 233 mHz G3 Vimage processer in it. I just bought this
game for it, since I't s a favoite game form me on my PC, and i wanted to be able to
play it on the notebook while on the road. Here's the deal: Everything about the
requirements suggests that I should be able to run the game, however, when I try to
load the game it tells me that the drawsprocket is unable to switch to 640x480
resolution, and to check whether my computer does, in fact match the requirements.
Any help would be appreciated in getting this to work for me, after all, it is a cool
game. thanks,
Brian

Apple standard is parity jumpered (300i and 600i, both of which work on
the 5300). Some drives, not necessarily Apple's, may not have the parity
jumper.

The 5300 doesn't supply terminator power, so even if the external
CD-ROM's SCSI cable is terminated at the connector, there will be no
terminator power.

Hence, the external CD-ROM drive should have its jumpers set to provide
terminator power to the bus, assuming this is an option, or should be
terminated in the drive itself, not externally.

On the basis of personal experience, this is not always true. When I replaced the
logic boards in two PowerBook 3400c with Kanga G3/250 boards a few years ago, the
128-Mb RAM module from one unit worked on the Kanga board, but a 64-Mb module from the
second unit did not work on the Kanga board. According to technicians at DT&T
Macintosh Services, this was due to some jumper differences. It was not a big
problem, because I had planned to max out the RAM with a 128-Mb module anyway.

It works about 99 percent of the time. A very small number of 3400c RAM
cards don't work in a Kanga, but almost all will.

Re: PB 1400 configuration problem and Stylewriter II

Yep, it was a networking issue causing the slow boot up. Still can get the Stylewriter
II to work. I'm afraid it's dead.

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like it might be looking for a network - did
you have it linked to a network before? I would try
switching off Appleshare in the extensions manager, or
trashing the"Appleshare Prep" file in preferences.

The printer should be recognized, then give you an
error message when you try to print. Check to see if
another application is using the port - I would check
Appletalk first. This could even be related to your
other problem, perhaps?

Drew why is that just what I'd expect to see on _your_ desk? Now how
the heck does that help the OP?

Hmm, that reminds me, guess I've gotta try a WS HD EBM (well, the
interface PCB anyway) in a 5300 or 3400 . . . I'd not tried it previously
because ISTR the devnotes showing different pinouts for the 5300/3400 vs.
the WS. Guess ISTR wrong.

When my 3400 died, I bought a Kanga and put the memory from the 3400
in it. No problem.

I am 98% certain that I used some spare 3400 RAM in my Kanga.

3400 ram in a Kanga?

2004-02-09 Thread VidaVerde
I'm thinking of putting a Kanga MB (original G3/250) in my 3400/240.
I know this will fit, but does anyone know for sure that I can use my
old 3400 ram card with the new Kanga MB?

My impression was that the Kanga was pretty much a 3400 with a G3
processor dropped in, so I thouht perhaps the ram was transferrable,
especially as the mb speed is v similar?

It's only a viable plan if I can keep the ram - the new MB has almost
nothing, while my 3400 has the max 144Mb.

Thanks
Ben
