OS9 Forever patch files urls?

2004-04-22 Thread kaldav
Hello,
I'm trying to install OS 9.2.1 then 9.2.2 on a Kanga powerbook but
each time I try to shut down the command is not completed.
I have downloaded the International English version of Mac OS 9.2.1
and Mac OS 9.2.2. as directed by the website. However, each time I
click on the link for the International English versions of the 9.2.1
Patch File and 9.2.2 Patch File I am told that the server is
unavailable.
I also understand from the website that there is a patched version of
the Firewire Support extension, but again the server is unavailable.
Could anyone please direct me where to download these 3 files for
International English (Australia?)
Thanks.

Can anyone tell me what CarbonLib is?

It's the MacOS's appearance and application program interface package.

Some applications require CarbonLib, and that means either: 1) moving to
a higher level MacOS, one which has Carbon built in, or 2) installing
Carbon on top of an existing, supported MacOS.

Some applications come with Carbon, and will install it if it is missing.

CarbonLib is the system files used by OS 8.6-9.2 to run programs that have
been set up to run in both OS X and older OS-es.

Go to Apple and download the latest CarbonLib update. (which one I think
depends if you're using 8.6 or 9.x)

Printing via printer on OS X

2004-04-22 Thread Ruffin Bailey
Is there any easy way to print from an older Mac (7.5 or so) on the same network as a
Mac running 10.2?

I did try the archives, as I thought this'd come up before, but that search interface
leaves something to be desired. Is there some trick for saying, Results must contain
all search terms?

I did try setting up some fancy PrintMonitor shindig that was supposed to possibly
make my printer CUPS friendly (?) using some Gimp print jive (I really don't recall
correctly) without any luck. If it'd worked, I should have been able to print via
Classic. (Details: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030121062249804)

Any commercial apps I could grab for the OS X box, perhaps?

Thanks,

Ruffin Bailey

Re: CarbonLib?

2004-04-22 Thread Yersinia
Dan Palka writes,

Yes, and thank you. I'd also like to sincerely thank the rest of you who
replied. After I posted my original cry for help, I ended up Googling.
I found, downloaded and installed the version of CarbonLib (1.0.4, which
works on 8.1 through 9.0.4) which would run on my Mac, OS 8.1. Other
advice I got from a lister here (Brian) suggested that for this
particular problem, not only should I be more detailed about it here
(downloading CarbonLib didn't help) since some of you might know, but
that I should also join the PowerMacs list and pose the question to them
-- until I can get a SCSI adapter for my PB 190, I'm working with my Mac
7200/120 on this one. Okay then. The problem is this.

This weekend my boyfriend presented me with a Smart Friendly 8020
external SCSI CDRW drive -- a used one he snagged from a coworker who was
about to throw it out. We successfully got it hooked up to the 7200 and
the SCSI address we gave it (6) showed up in Drive Setup, so we know the
7200 recognizes its presence. There was a CD ROM he also brought which
had an extension on it called CD Sunrise; I installed that and while it
was enough to get the drive to show up on the desktop (albeit very
slowly!), between that and the recognition of the SCSI address in Drive
Setup I'm sure the drive itself is OK. But I wanted more effective
software to really use this drive -- it's supposed to be a read/write
unit with which I can transfer data back and forth between the 7200 (and
perhaps the PB 190 when I get a SCSI adapter). No not the top of the line
fastest and bestest -- either drive or software but it doesn't have to
be, because not only are my needs minimal but I'm practically broke. We
spent most of Sunday afternoon cruising the web looking for free CD
burning software for Mac and couldn't find any, plus read through
numerous forums in which Mac users with external CDRW SCSI drives were
all singing the praises of something called Toast. We ended up at a place
called BuyCheapSoftware.com and I found a listing for Toast 5 Lite,
$15, which listed system requirements of 7.something through 9.1 or 9.2.
Since I had OS 8.1 I ordered it.

Got my CD ROM of Toast 5.2.1 today, and it wouldn't install because I
didn't have CarbonLib (that's when I screamed for help). But even after
I found and got CarbonLib, Toast STILL wouldn't install and it gave me a
very weird-looking error message: CarbonLib--CFURL
CreateCopyAppendingPathComponent could not be found -- No, that's not
typos, the lack of spaces was exactly the message, I wrote it down.

So...do any of you have any idea why Toast won't install? And yes, I'll
also take this inquiry to the PowerMac people.

Thank you again and again and again! :-)

~Yersinia.

Separate the front from the rear, carefully reinstall, and carefull
torque the attaching screws.

The connections are through a set of conductive plastic contacts.

Why exactly does Apple position this on their site as one of their own

Re: emagic Logic

2004-04-22 Thread Dana Collins
Not odd at all, Dan. Apple bought out eMagic a while ago (about the same
time the 2nd batch of G4s were coming out), including their flagship audio
application Logic Audio. It is a professional-level digital audio/MIDI
sequencing application in the league of Steinberg's Q-Basis and MOTU's Dig.
Performer (ProTools is still a cut above for audio recording, but comparably
weak in the MIDI area when compared with these three). Emagic always
supported the Mac, though when Apple acquired the company they announced
(surprise, surprise) phasing out Windows support.
Some swear by it (Logic) for its integrity - it is a fine application
(though I prefer MOTU), and yes, it is an Apple product.
Best regards,
Dana
