Free for postage, dead PB 520 battery

2004-10-10 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor
I'm clearing out some Powerbook 520/540 parts.
Can anyone use a dead M1906 battery (or three of them)?
They could be yours for the cost of shipping from Michigan (48104).
They weigh 12 ounces each so figure a pound with packaging.

I have), and what flavour of the OS (what country type - though I'm

no, Drew and someone else said they had no issues as well.
It's IE 5.1.7, 9.1 (US), 1400/G3. Carbonlib 1.6 but as Drew said, IE
doesn't use Carbonlib.

Well, darm0k said a bit ago they could not even *start* an ebay
auction. But you can start one, just not upload a picture?

I have nothing I need to auction (well that's not true, I've bought
computer stuff and told my wife other things would go to ebay to make
room for it :) but I have no time to deal with shipping or anything.

I'd be happy to try and build an auction for you though, using my 1400,
but really doubt you want to share your ebay account info to that
degree... :) how far into the auction stuff do I have to get to show
your problem? If I can cancel after that point without the auction
being finalized, I'll test for you.

If Paypal has fixed the problem than I am amazed but happy.
I use paypal about once every 2 weeks from my 1400, and I've never
notice it failing.

Strange issues here!

2004-10-10 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor
I was able to upload pictures to E-bay using my Dad's PB1400 (OS8.6).
I used the wamcom Mozilla 1.3.1 http://www.wamcom.org/ and Netscape
6.2 and uploaded one photo each for six auctions.
I didn't use E-bay's photo upload tool, I just browsed to the photo on
my hard drive.
Unfortunately I didn't have any PayPal payments to make before I shipped
the 1400 of to Cambridge but I'll try and rember to use the Wamcom
Mozilla on my Lombard (OS 9.2.2) next time I need to make a payment.

introduced over five years ago in July 1999. Most recent 2.5-inch
notebook drives are faster, larger, and run cooler. Even so your
heat observation does not seem normal, and the Kanga should probably
be checked.
I concur with Fabian.
Hard drive power consumption and heat dissipation (same thing) are
usually a function of their relative performance at the time they
came out. Leading edge drives tend to run hot where as a drive of
the same capacity and performance made a year or two later will be
much cooler. I've got a 40 G, 9mm drive in my Wallstreet and while
it's warm it's nothing that could be described as hot.

Aside from making the computer uncomfortable it can also be

Update on New 3400c.

2004-10-10 Thread Clark Martin
I ordered and got a drive cable, drive carrier and screws from
Wegener Media. It went together okay. So now I have a wireless
3400c with 4Gb and 48M RAM. $20 for the computer and $15 for the
cable and screws (I already had a drive carrier). I also had the HD
and wireless card. I just wish I could run Airport on it so I could
use Classic Stumbler on it. I also need to dig around for a cheap
memory upgrade. 48Mb works okay but I've gotten use to more.

I just got a new to me 3400c at a flea market. It had the HD drive
stripped out. I did get a drive housing but the HD drive cable is
missing and it's missing a number of screws.Other than that it
all seems okay. It did have a 32Mb RAM card so that helps. It came
with only a floppy but I swapped in a CD drive from a G3 Kanga. I
put a 128Mb CF card and installed OS 8.6 on it. I installed a
wireless card and drivers and that works. The battery was flat but
fortunately I have others. So know I have a moderately potent
laptop with wireless and a tiny drive.

Does anyone have a good source for either the HD cable or screws. I
found some sources from a web search but I'd just as soon not have
to pick one at random. I already checked Wegener, PB Guy and
pbparts. I'm pretty sure I can find the metric screws locally if I
have to but I'd just as soon get the right ones.
