success. When I click on Appleshare in the chooser no
mac appears on the connect screen, this after enabling
filesharing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try a SCSI docking adapter. It is a lot faster.

I forgot to mention that I'm using the blue ethernet

Color doesn't matter on the cable. It needs to be what is called a
ethernet gaming cable.

Yes, probably you need a xover cable if you only connect
those two macs. If you have a hub available two usual
cables migth do it as well.

Does the wallsteet have an IrDa ? This might work too

out there whose plugs are perfectly good, and if I could just locate
them, I
could fix my three. (Even though I bought the new adapter for the

might was well fix the original adapter plug and gain a spare.)

I've also looked for G3/G4 plugs. Good Old Apple used the weirest ones
they could to frustrate folks like me.

The I-GO universal power adapters sell tips to fit them. I saw one
at Radios Hack. (Alas, the Hack's own line
of adapters does not have the ones we need...Grr...) I know other
universal supplies also have their own tips...

The tips are in fact a plug AND a programming resistor [I suspect] to
set the correct output voltage. Esp. with the
IGO, it will take some soldering-iron surgery to get what you
wantbut should work...

We have a iDock with 2 serial; [Geo] and a parallel port. It works as a
USB hub, but there are no OSX drivers for the s/p ports,
so every boot the user gets an error message

If you have a printer cable - you connect through the print ports of the
two machines. It'll be slow but you can do it that way. I sometimes
connect my 1400 to my G3 that way.
You need a Ethernet hub or switch to use 10/100 ethernet. direct lines
computer to computer doesn't work - I never heard of a gaming cable before.

It should work if it's a crossover cable, although on some systems because
of AppleTalk's intelligent [sic] detection system, it can be tough to get
AppleTalk working this way because the ad hoc network won't be up until
both machines are, and AppleTalk won't talk to Ethernet until there's a
network there. This isn't usually a problem for later versions of MacOS.

I just got a 3400c and am not sure but my 3400C has a combination modem /
network connection RJ45. I'm not sure if you cna just plug an RJ45 network
coble directly into that port for network use or if you need the dongle to plug
into it which splits into an RJ45 RJ11. If anyone else knows if it can be
connected directly let me know. If anyone has the dongle for this for sale let
me know.
