Re: Off topic OT : Long weekend topic - what macs do you own?
With my list of 53 Macs, I'd like to staple my one and only PC to the bottom! It's a 1.8ghz AMD something that I never ever use. My 540c sees more action than that thing. I seriously haven't even powered it on in like 6 months. best way to rebuild boot blocks?
Sorry if a blank mail came though, darn webmail. I have a 1400 with a 20 gig HD, the drive isn't booting. I thought at first it was not spinning up but now that I've had a chance to take a look at it it might just have the boot sectors damaged. What options do I have for rebuilding the boot sectors without losing the HD contents? I have Norton 3.5.2 boot disk, somewhere I have a diskwarrior (unknown version), and I'm not sure I can find my 9.1 Cd. I've loaned a bit of my older repair tools out since I was mostly using X now. I had a SystemWorks/Mac but that may be out of the house as well. It's been a long time since I've done 9.1 stuff, what are my options for rebuilding just the boot blocks and keeping the data intact? Norton-ing was able to scan the drive and see the files, but Norton crashes when the disk drivers are loaded. I'm not sure if it's because my Norton is too old, or if it's that the disk drivers are corrupt. Or the drive could be fading, too. Can someone help with a workflow and which versions of the older Norton and Disk Warrior would work with HFS+/9.1? Thanks, Brian -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Wow, lessee... In order of age... IIci - w/the '040 card and composite video out. Sys 6! Portable - Currently dead (blown resistor on board). Plus - Movers cracked the case, damaged the analog. PowerBook 100 - Works... sorta (screen needs repair). Centris 660AV - My main video astronomy machine. Quadra 605 - Looks cool, runs nice, don't need it. PowerBook 150 - In route - eBay find. PowerBook 540c - My main machine. Really. PowerMac 6100/60AV - Might keep this one. PowerMac 6100/66 DOS - Cool, but redundant. PowerBook 5300c - Loose plug (surprise), but nice. PowerMac 7200/90 - My future server. PowerMac 5260/120AV - A TV with screen capture. iBook (Tangerine) - Being repaired (needs keyboard, CD) But my most used machines are my old Tandy Model 102 laptop and my Palm IIIxe (with GoType keyboard). OFF TOPIC - Blues.
I can't do the count, literally. One large garage outbuilding full, a bedroom so full I cannot get through it, without climbing over them, then in our attic/room, I have a mini-museum. I thought, when I retired, I would swap my stuff on the MacLaunch swap list. Unfortunately, arthritis and doctors ordered me no lifting, period. I bought 35 baby Macs at a school sale for a buck, because I was the only one who was interested in them. I have a 17 ColorOne Apple upstairs hooked up to a Mac IIVX. The Bondi is down here for my wife and cards. My son just installed a G3 upgrade to a 6400. Also have a G3 upgrade coming for my 5400. My upstairs museum is made by using 4 sets of 4 baby makes and 1 by 10s. It gets hot up there in the summer, but amazingly, they still work. Sadly, ... I have to buy a new laptop to get on the Internet, since I can no long sit at this desk longer than 20 minutes without hydrocordone. I don't even know how to sleep with pain meds and Ambien. I use my Macs for freelance writing. Look in this week's Time magazine to find my 4th letter to the editor, that I prepared on my PB1400. 4 is easily the Galactic Champion. I want to get a Laptop that I can do some Blues stuff on with Garageband. Any experience would be much appreciated. Guitar and harpman with a dog, Sassie Rae that sings the Blues. Fake Mac
The most obscure Mac that I have is a Fake Sony Mac. It looks like a Mac but it has two 3.5s underneath the screen. I think it is named, Sony S103, a word processor which has two z-80 chips in it. Out of all the million websites on the web, I have found a picture of one. They are begging for a picture in the Old Mac Museum. 3 FX's. PB 150. (Actually, the Sony is a baby Bondi. Reduce a Bondi to a 9 inch screen and put two diskdrives across from each other, and you've got it. Also have a 40 lb luggable Compac out there that has 2 5.25 drives. Some CPM's too. I am no longer collecting and am looking to tak'em to the auto-salvage folks. They love old computers. I can no longer switch a burned-in screen for a non-burned one. I think I own 4 SE30s, but 3 have burnins. I have two SE Superdrives. I'm on my uMax on the net, because out here, the max download I can get is 26,400. My boys are planning on coming home and cleaning out their bedroom, which is 4 feet tall Macs. I am the Jay Leno of Macintoshes. Find me another airplane hanger, p-lease. Check out my webpage, and you can find a few. My webpage is a googlezapp(c)2005 dale hill. Put ZZELAXX in google and see what you find. 8-) I'm gettin' back into the harp and Blues because I lift a Blues Harp.
