Re: Feeler: Floppy Drive Module for 1400
Hiya Listers, Can anyone tell me approximately what one of these are worth? Thank you, ~Yersinia. About $10 if working. I have some if you need. Contact me off list. The drive can be use to repair other PowerBooks. I know for a fact, that the drive is the same as in a Wallstreet II. Ken Vann == Old Mac's have new uses with WiFi. Re: Is there a 3400 or 2400 battery charger?
Malcolm Cornelius [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: 95% sure that I have a VST one and that it uses either the normal 5300/190 or the normal 3400 adapter. I've a vague feeling that this has been discussed on the list before a couple of years ago and we decided that there were several distinct chargers. Right you are Malcolm. Ok, here's more info than any of y'all really wanted to know . . . VST (now SmartDisk) made at least three versions of the 190/5300/3400 chargers. The first is for NiMH 190/5300 batteries only, the VST Charger 5000 (SCH5000), with the 190/5300-style power input socket only. For the PowerBook 3400 VST produced a new model, the VST Charger 3400 (SCH3400) which can charge the 3400's lithium batteries along with the older NiMH packs, and it added as well a second power socket for the 3400's power supply plug. With the arrival of the 3500 VST produced a new revision of the SCH3400 charger which can handle charging the higher capacity Kanga batteries. Confusingly, the 3500-capable model carries the same VST Charger 3400 (SCH3400) model name. I can't recall if there is any externally marked revision number difference, might be, been awhile :-P However, I do recall that the earlier rev SCH3400 cannot charge Kanga batteries. Somewhere I have another make charger, 190/5300-only IIRC, might be Absolute-brand come to think of it . . . I've never ever seen any standalone charger for 2400 batteries, but maybe I missed it. dan k . http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 . -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Orinoco 7.2 drivers
Hi, I'm trying to find a copy of the Orinoco 7.2 drivers so I can take my PowerBook 3400 on my wireles network. It seems that the company that made them has made it almost impossible to find them for download. I looked it up on versiontracker.com.. the download link is old and doesn't work.. it's the same one linked in this article: http://www.penmachine.com/techie/airport1400.html On versiontracker someone posted a link to what is supposed to be where it is downloadable, but stuffit on the powerbook chokes on it. http://www.sst23.com/orinoco.smi.zip I tried decompresing it on my G4 running OS X and then copying the file to my PowerBook but then attempting to run the smi file the PowerBook gives me an error. I havn't been able to find any other sites on Google except for more dead download links. If anyone can help me get the Orinoco 7.2 drivers so I can get my powerbook online wirelessly, it'd be really appreciated. Thank you, -Matt -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Oddball PB1xx adapter?
Recently, an acquaintance told me that when the early PowerBooks (145, 170, 165, etc.) were in popular use, a third-party manufacturer made a battery-sized AC adapter that would go right in where the NiCad battery pack would fit, and used just a standard thin laptop-style AC cord. Does anyone remember this? And if so, has anyone seen one available recently? My batteries expired a long time ago, and I use my 170 on AC all the time, but the rather large external brick is a slight annoyance, and since my battery bay is now empty anyway, it would seem an ideal place to put the whole adapter. As an alternate plan, is is possible to build such a thing? I'm pretty good with a soldering iron, but I'm no circuit designer! I have a feeling that the necessary AC step-down transformer would be too big to fit... but what do I know? :-) Bob -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
